I came into the shop a few days ago when I was just in the area. My plan was to schedule a consultation for what I wanted. The facility is a little small but in a cozy way. I think about 5-6 available spots for people to get tattoos at a time. They do have a bathroom inside wish was very clean. I was greeted by David upon entering and he was very nice. He was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Upon my surprise, they were available to do my tattoo as a walk-in without needing the consultation appointment. David was quick to help me find flower pieces for my leg. He made sure I liked all the flowers and began printing the different sizes and helped me with the layout while my artist finished with his other client. When my artist, Travis did come he finished helping me with placement. Travis was very friendly and we tested out the layout a few times before starting the tattoo. The tattoo process was pretty quick and actually not too painful. But Travis was great at asking if I was doing good during the session. The tattoo itself only took about an hour and a half and was $250. I was so in love with it and felt the price and process was great and reasonable. I came here after being recommended by my dad, and now I recommend you to come here for your tattoos. It was a clean, friendly, and fast experience. I've been going to him religiously for rose designs on both of my arms, and every single piece he's done is stunning. The detail, the shading, the flow--just amazing. I've been a client of Taylor's for 9+ years. He does amazing quality work. Many tattoo artists/shops will just copy paste whatever image you pull off the internet onto your skin, but the artists here understand how to work with the shape of your body and re-illustrate concepts of what you want into cohesive works of body art. Overall the experience was good. It is in a cool area, the shop is clean and modern looking, and the artists seem to be overall very good. Originally I wanted to get a gift card, but they were out. I just "prepaid" and put the receipt in an envelope which worked out fine. My wife likes her tattoo overall pretty much. She needs to go in for a few minor touch ups. One word of caution, appointment time was not met (even close) was like 90 minutes till she got seen after her appointment time. They did not seem to be bothered by it. We are visiting Arizona from out of town and decided to get spontaneous tattoos. Travis was absolutely amazing and so was the woman at the front desk. They welcomed us in when we asked about walk in's and made it possible right away. It was my friends first tattoo and they made us feel so welcomed and not annoying for wanting small tattoos. Travis did such a great job at his work and making sure we were happy with the work before he started, absolutely so patient with us wanting to change areas and sizes. It's a great looking place but I won't be going back. I spent $1100 on my upper arm piece and I left unhappy. I thought maybe the tattoo would look better in a month; it didn't. I gave it another 6 months and nothing improved. It has almost been a year so I think its safe to say that the errors are there and I can't deny them anymore. My husband and I wanted to get our daughter's birthday in roman numerals tattooed on our arms. Our artist was Lindsey. We had previously gotten our wedding date in roman numerals tattooed on our arms at a different location with a different artist. I wanted my daughter's birthday to match as much as it could otherwise it would look weird if they were different sizes and fonts. After the tattoo healed I wasn't very satisfied with it. If you look at the picture I posted, the one that Lindsey did of my daughter's birthday is the one on the bottom. It is a smaller tattoo and the first half of it looks blown out. It should say 1/18/2019. The 1 and 18 looks blown out but the 2019 looks smooth. My husband's tattoo turned out really well, and his was a larger size than mine, however I was pretty disappointed in mine. read more

I have never gotten a tattoo and been wanting one for 10 years or so. Finally I decided to do it and ask my friends for recommendations and a good friend recommended Timo. I am so glad I did, guy is awesome, has dry sarcastic humor like me so we hit it off haha. He's been tattooing for a little over 19 years and his work shows. The detail that is in my tattoo is crazy. So for my first and last tattoo I wanted to get a full sleeve done. Yea I know my first tattoo. I gave him a few ideas and let him pretty much do what he wanted and it's came out fucking dopeeeeee. He's so detailed, meticulous and fast I was able to do what is on my arm, check pics, in only 1.5 sessions. The only downside is he is about 3-4month wait but once I heard that I was down and booked 2 sessions at once and my 3rd a few more months out. But honestly all the other artist their do amazing jobs too. But Timo is going to be my only tattoo guy. read more

Went in for a consult with lex on two separate occasions first was my boyfriend second was myself. Both times he was unwelcoming and did not have much to say in regard to ideas with our designs (reasonable/simple). This is not first time naivety (boyfriend has multiple tattoos). Not too many people just pick the first tattoo place they visit to get their FIRST TATTOO.... But I did (I wouldn't suggest doing that either unless you had the experience I did). As soon as I walked up to the door I was welcomed with a friendly hello! This place is great, the people here are helpful and help ease any worries you may have about getting your tattoo (as it was my first time). Even afterwards whenever I had a question about the care for it they gave me quick responses and even put a new tattoo bandage when the one I had was leaking (sorry for the TMI). All I did was bring in the picture of what I wanted and my homie Isaac Fainkujen accomplished the task with ease. Everyone here tattoos with care and really take ownership of their craft. After taking a few years off of getting tattooed I decided to move forward with trying to find a new shop (refer to my profile pics to see the level of quality i have experienced int he past). I had only ever been tattooed by one artist and he moved away which indirectly stopped me from getting tattooed again due to the fear of encountering a bad artist (can't undo these things). After a close friend informed me about this shop and raved about how nice it was i decided to give it a shot. Keep in mind i always try to be courteous when meeting someone new and respectful. Went in to see Lex due to his portfolio being the only one that i found up to par with what i was looking for (friend was tattooed by Isac). Upon handshake he was quiet and as we got into the design (I am always open to letting the artist do their thing meaning if its not doable I try to figure out a good compromise) with a monotonous tone dumbed down the design into a basic American style design which is not what i'm about. He went on about how x doesn't translate to skin and I took his word and set a date for both me and my girlfriend. A few days later my girlfriend went in to discuss the design further with him due to her not being there to fully get into detail upon my initial consult. Again he provided the same dull and unwelcoming attitude to her. It is as if you are bothering him no matter how nice of a tone you give. Needless to say we are not proceeding forward with this shop and for the first time made a yelp account to deter people from this place. I want it to be known that the issue is not so much the discrepancy over design but the treatment of the customer especially when one is a first timer. Believe the reviews that describe this same experience. Went into Club Tattoo (my original shop) and saw Ina who laughed at me saying that we had seen another shop who said our designs can't be done. I'm not a naive newbie to this nor do i claim to be an expert but when i have existing ink on me that has similar design to what you say can't be done i start to wonder. Stick to Club Tattoo they will treat you correctly. I will be seeing her later this month and will be posting pics of what "can't be done". read more

I've gotten two tattoos here. My first one was by Marc. He's awesome and love that tattoo. But when I went back to get a second I think Marc was on a hiatus so I met with Jed because my work is American traditional. I had a picture of what I liked but I told him I trust him I'm up for his interpretation like adding lines, dots, just his own spin here and there. And I was adamant that I didn't like the colors of the picture I had found anyways so I wasn't looking for it to be identical. I had figured good artists like to be creative and not just copy work. Anyways and hour before my appointment he text me saying he couldn't make it in and he'd let me know when he could get me back in. This sucked for multiple reasons but main one being I had to get a baby sitter for the appointment and now that was useless and I would have to make sure they were available for whenever he would text me to get me in. But he text me the next day and said he could get me tattooed right when they open. So I went in. The stencil looked exactly like the inspo pic but I was just like well whatever I do like the inspo pic so it's fine. But again I told him -look I hate the color yellow but the green and red is great I love dark green. Alas the tattoo came out with bold yellow, turquoise and red. Oh and not only was the design and exact copy of the other artists that I showed him, but he missed some lines, ha! Can't even copy right. All in all I know it's not the shops fault and I would probably give 5th estate a 4 star themselves but I read another review that was similar about the scheduling with Jed and he should really get his sh*t together with that. Best experience ever! Isaac was my artist and he was amazing. He was very nice and friendly. You can easily tell he is very experienced in what he does and it definitely makes you feel comfortable. I got a tattoo from Lindsey about a year ago now, and I'm just now getting it fixed after living with it for quite some time. I asked for a traditional style lady tattoo with some script, however this was not what I received. The script was sloppy, the lady was nowhere near traditional, the outline was sloppy, and the banner made no sense. Lindsey also told me to use scented products to heal my tattoo, which I have always been advised against, but decided to trust her as she was the authority figure. This caused severe scabbing and a dull color with lots of missing chunks of color overall. I have many tattoos and have never had any damage during the healing process, let alone missing pieces of my tattoo. I was unwilling to speak to her as I didn't want her to be the one to try and fix it. I just feel as though a tattoo shop should make their artists all have the same aftercare procedures, so that something like this doesn't happen again. read more

I got my first tattoo ever there on Valentine's Day. I went to Mary who was just amazing. She took three images I sent her and combined them in to the perfect image--one I hadn't even imagined myself. It incorporated my late sister's exact signature. I love it. I went with my friend who also got a perfect tat from Mary right after me. The place is clean and spacious and a very cool environment. It took less time than I'd imagined and was beyond reasonable. The guy had an attitude about it and designed a patch. And the whole time, he acted like I was an idiot and wasting his time. I ended up going to a different shop in Chandler, had a super experience, and now have an amazing tattoo. I have been working directly with Lex at 5th Estate for 2 years now on a full leg tattoo extending from the top of my hip/butt to the top of my foot. When I consulted with him about my idea for an "outer space" themed, highly colorful tatt, he immediately understood what I was looking for and put forth GREAT ideas based on images, photos, and other tattoos that I had pulled together to develop a concept. We worked the upper half for the first year or so, then decided to expand to the full leg with no difficulty at all. The nearly finished tattoo is AWESOME and I get stopped on the street everyday, every time I'm wearing shorts, at the gym, at the beach, with great compliments about the artistry, use of colors + layering + shading. I'm still working on some fine details with Lex and will keep going to 5th Estate Tattoo for as long as they are here in the Gilbert area. I've gotten to know the other tattoo artists at the shop, and they all are welcoming, full of great advice, and open to every idea you might have. Take their advice, offer your thoughts and desires. I made an appointment over a week in advance, super polite people. Then the day of my simple tattoo appointment I was told 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment that it would be an additional hour before I could be seen by an artist. Simply unprofessional to notify your potential clients that your running way behind. I'll have to take my experience elsewhere. The manager was super apologetic which I get running over, but give more time to those that travel to your location to get some work done, more bummed that I won't be getting work done here. read more

My lovely bride and I decided to get inked to celebrate our 20th anniversary (yeah, we're hopeless romantics. For the record, it was her idea). Prior to this venture, I had a grand total of one tattoo, she had zero. So we don't have a whole lot of experience in this world. But I have been to a few tattoo shops in my day and can definitely say 5th Estate was the least.... seedy... one I've seen. The shop was spotless, the music was great and more importantly, all the people that worked there were totally cool. They treated us with respect and dignity, even though we weren't looking for huge artistic projects. The wife got a small rose on her shoulder and I had a rose added to my existing tat of the state of Texas. Lex was the shizz. Super cool guy, and a terrific artist. VERY reasonable prices and the work was flawless. We may not ever be back, but that's just because the three tats in our combined 101 years of existence makes for low odds of getting more ink.
