Love & Hades - Smoked Helles Lager
    Ameya B.

Good beer, great setup, fun time, and good memories. In July 2025, they had a Love & Hades Smoked Helles Lager - probably one of the best Helles Lagers I've ever had. Those smokey notes bring such a crisp finish wanting you get your next sip right away!

    What's on tap?

Fifth Hammer Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in Queens, New York in October 2017. It was founded by business partners Chris Cuzme, David Scharfstein and Mary Izett. Cuzme had previously worked as a brewer for Gun Hill Brewing as well as 508 GastroBrewery. Izett started out as a homebrewer, served as a president of the New York City Homebrewers Guild, authored "Speed Brewing", and is co-host of the fermentation-centric podcast "Fuhmentaboudit". Cuzme and Izett teamed up with Scharfstein (a lawyer) to open their own brewery in a former industrial space in Queens' Long Island City neighborhood. They chose the name "Fifth Hammer" in reference to the legend of Greek philosopher Pythagoras, who came across five men hammering at a forge; the fifth hammer created a distinctly discordant sound. The concept represents individuality and not being afraid to go your own way individuality and not being afraid to go your own way. I visited Fifth Hammer Brewing this past summer while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn and Queens breweries and pizzerias and this was my fourth stop of the day. The place had a nice sized crowd when I showed up. I explored the taproom for a bit and then pulled up a seat at the bar. After scanning through the menu, I decided to order short pours of "Bartholomew Neverbart" (English Pale Ale; on cask), "Sun Machine" (Grapefruit Kölsch), "Bedevil" (Black IPA), and "Juice Jumper" (Double IPA). I like how Fifth Hammer carries an eclectic mix of different beer styles. I really enjoyed each of the different beers that I sampled, but "Juice Jumper" was probably my favorite. I really enjoyed my experience at Fifth Hammer and I look forward to seeing what they brew up next!

I always have a great experience at this brewery, but the vibes are especially good when the weather is warm!! I love the open-door, airy atmosphere, & there's always cute dogs around. It's a pet-friendly spot, so I come here to enjoy a beer & pet some pups. I ordered the raspberry sour and my partner had the stout--both drinks were reasonably priced with generous pours. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area and looking to check out a local brewery!

What a fun spot in the neighborhood! Very welcoming for everyone, local families, dog owners, beer lovers. The open garage concept lets you breathe some fresh air as you grab a barrel to sit down at with your beers. The beers were really good, from IPAs to their pilsner and rice lager too. Shoutout to the bearded beertender, very friendly. They have food trucks for snacks, loved the Asian one that was there on the weekend.

Fifth Hammer has all the qualities you look for in a solid hang out spot. - Tasty brews (and seltzers and ciders) - check! - Chill atmosphere with plenty of tables - check! - Clean bathrooms? - check! - Tunes that make you wan to get up and dance? - check! - Amazing staff who can help you identify a new favorite from their rotating menu? - check, check, check! You can also bring in your own food (similar to other breweries in Queens!) They did have a food truck outside, and folks brought all sorts of snacks.

Came on a Saturday to do some board game playing, specifically Ticket to Ride and we sat inside at one of the picnic tables. I had one of the ciders while the others tried their beers my cider was good and the overall atmosphere was laid back and friendly. Love that you can bring your fur babies and got to give a few belly rubs while there. While they don't serve food, they did have a Vegan food truck outside that you could order from.

Really Tasty Beers and great vibes. They had a food truck outside serving some good looking food but unfortunately we had just came from dinner. The space is open and rustic. It gives all the brewery vibes. The glassware is interesting because they look like wine glasses but I actually love that. The bartender was knowledgeable, friendly, and had answers to all our questions. When I go back they have a frozen drink that looked really good. If it's gone by the time I get back-- I'll be just fine with all the beer selections they have. Grabbed a few cans for home too!

A cool place!! I like the different types of seating they have indoors, at a barrel ( kind of high table vibe), or picnic benches that are reserved for larger groups. They have battery-powered candles, which sets a nice ambience. There are also seats outside the brewery, if you're into street/people watching! My boyfriend and I had the beers which were solid, and had notes of fruit. Tasted exactly like described (we could taste the notes of passionfruit and strawberry in our drinks). Overall a fun vibe of a local brewery, and I can't wait to check out Trivia some week!

Loved the Ask For Dorothy Kölsch!

Fifth Hammer Brewing is a brewery I have been wanting to try for a little while and I got super excited when I had the opportunity to finally try one of their beers! The particular beer that we had was the Ask For Dorothy. This was a kõlsch style beer. A type of beer we really like as they are flavorful and light! This particular one was also awesome and we enjoyed the crisp, sweet, malty and corn flavors with this particular beer! So very grateful to have finally tried this brewery and found the wait to be rewarding!

Cask is back, baby!! I mean, I guess it didn't really go anywhere - but it's definitely harder to find since the ::shudders:: COVID-19 Pandemic. Fifth Hammer delivered an earthy, hoppy cask beer, and it was my boyfriend's favorite brew on our recent beer tour of NY. We also tasted Flute Solo (Belgian Style Blonde Ale), Rowdy Rhodies (Foeder Lager with Rye & Spelt), and Troublesome Jellyfish (Hazy IPA). I was a big fan of all their brews. The location is awesome - very close to the beautiful waterfront park with sweeping views of Manhattan. The inside is spacious, and when the weather permits, seating spills out onto the front sidewalk. Fifth Hammer is dog friendly and group friendly, as long as you time your visit well!

Love going here for the sours. We came pre COVID and they had a ton of games. They don't have any anymore. Bring them back!!

First round of tasting (Strawberry Goggles, poglodyte, flute solo, runaway turtles, Cloak spell). All delicious!

This was a "must stop" for us on our self guided brewery Bop in LIC, as we've tried a few Fifth Hammer beers before and have loved every single one. Our experience there did not disappoint! Beer-wise, they can do 5oz tasters of many of their delicious beverages, so we opted to try as many as we possibly could (10 in total ha). Pretty much all were good (and we got a wide variety of beers from IPAs, to smoked lagers, to fruited sours, to chocolate stouts), with our favorites being the holiday goblin (fruited sour with lactose), duke Vernon (Choco stout), Cloak Spell (dark lager), Apple P.I., and Strawberry Goggles. Ambiance - wise, it was super packed on a Saturday afternoon but we ended up getting two seats at the bar within 10 min. It's dog friendly as well - so many floofs roaming around too. Service-wise, all the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about the beers (and had some awesome recommendations for us!) Definitely glad we made Fifth Hammer a stop on our tour and will most certainly be back!

    Do they have happy hour?

    Not that I know of.

Are children allowed at the brewery (like a 5 year old)?

    Yes!

Do they have drinks aside from beer?

    They have wine and cider.

Can they still do to go cups?

No, but there are plenty of cans available to go. The to-go cups were only temporarily allowed for breweries in NY State during peak pandemic times.

Will you be showing the World Series games this weekend?

Yes, on our big screen (without sound)

Do you show the Sunday football games, Jets in particular.?

Hi, yes we do show the local games on Sundays on our projector, but without sound.

Does this place have good wifi? Is it good place to work from?

It has good WiFi, I think in terms of working there they have the space with big tables but It depends on your own ability to concentrate.

By all means it was a pleasant evening so everyone and their third cousin's brother-in-law was ready for an (almost) summer beer. My friends and I arrived around 6pm and the tables inside and out were packed, and that says a lot since there's seating for around 150 people counting the family-style, picnic tables and benches. The industrial chic inside spaciously fits a long cement bar seating about 10 bar chairs comfortably, and what looks to be about a dozen beers on tap on the wall behind the bar. We managed to find a few outdoor benches to squat with our bags and took turns grabbing drinks and food. They're strictly a brewery so no food is available directly from Focal Point, you can BYO Food from other food spots, bring a picnic, or grab something from food trucks if nearby. While I only had a small pour of the ILL Niño 7oz $5 (also comes in 16oz $9 / 23oz $11 / 64oz $32) it was a refreshing, medium-bodied lager--citrusy and a perfect complement to the warm weather and sunset breeze. Definitely recommend as an easy, low-key spot to hang with some friends. Will be back to try some other beers!

SingleCut Beersmiths is a craft brewery that opened in Astoria, Queens, New York in December 2012…read more It was founded by Rich Buceta. The Queens native began homebrewing in his apartment in 2004 and eventually was hired to work at the now defunct Greenpoint Beer Works in Brooklyn. A huge music fan, Buceta decided to combine his passion for craft beer and music and open his own brewery. In order to finance his dream, Buceta sold off his collection of vintage guitars. When the brewery finally opened, it was the first production brewery to open in Queens since Prohibition. The name "Singlecut" was chosen in reference to the luthier term for a guitar that is crafted with a single cutaway, or a notch cut into the body of the instrument on one side to provide easier access to the upper frets. SingleCut quickly became a popular New York brewery and by 2017 it had reached capacity. In 2018, the brewery purchased the former Shmaltz Brewing Company facility in Clifton Park. Dubbed "SingleCut North", the secondary taproom fully opened to the public in September 2019. A third taproom, dubbed "SingleCut Barn & Lodge", fully opened in Manlius in April 2023. I visited SingleCut Beersmiths this past summer while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn and Queens breweries and pizzerias and this was my fifth stop of the day. The taproom in Astoria is spacious and inviting. I really liked the back room which was loaded with a nice selection of pinball machines. I pulled up a seat at the bar. There's a big stack of vinyl records on shelves and the staff were spinning a great selection of tunes during my visit. Throughout my visit, I enjoyed short pours of "18-Watt" (Session IPA), "Big In Japan" (DDH IPA), "Full Stack" (Double IPA), and "Heavy Boots of Lead" (Imperial Stout). Every single beer that I tried was fantastic! Great craft beer, vinyl and pinball?! I could have spent all day here! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to SingleCut and I hope to be back!
