On a weekend afternoon, Focal Point Beer Co, formerly IcoNYC in LIC was a mixed crowd of Manhattan finance-type overflow, local artists and their crews, young families with small children eeking out a chill vibe before kids' schedules consume their lives, Astoria hipsters, your nearby pickleball league hanging out post-game, cliques of single-and-ready-to-mingle college students before everyone is off and away for the summer. By all means it was a pleasant evening so everyone and their third cousin's brother-in-law was ready for an (almost) summer beer. My friends and I arrived around 6pm and the tables inside and out were packed, and that says a lot since there's seating for around 150 people counting the family-style, picnic tables and benches. The industrial chic inside spaciously fits a long cement bar seating about 10 bar chairs comfortably, and what looks to be about a dozen beers on tap on the wall behind the bar. We managed to find a few outdoor benches to squat with our bags and took turns grabbing drinks and food. They're strictly a brewery so no food is available directly from Focal Point, you can BYO Food from other food spots, bring a picnic, or grab something from food trucks if nearby. But beer, BEER they have a lot of, and it's darn tasty. The staff at the bar were friendly and quick to get my order to me. While I only had a small pour of the ILL Niño 7oz $5 (also comes in 16oz $9 / 23oz $11 / 64oz $32) it was a refreshing, medium-bodied lager--citrusy and a perfect complement to the warm weather and sunset breeze. Definitely recommend as an easy, low-key spot to hang with some friends. Will be back to try some other beers! read more

A great place in LIC, this is a fun space to come with a group of friends. In addition to the good beer selection, they have cocktails too. There is plenty of space inside or outside, depending on the weather. This is so much nicer than when it was Iconyc and situated in the smaller building next door. Additionally, there are plenty of food options around so if you want pizza or tacos with your beer, you're in luck! Bartenders are nice and I love that they have sinks outside of the restrooms. Beer drinkers rejoice, IPAs galore. Even for a novice like me, you can just ask for a "pitcher of light beer." People were outside with their animals, and kids were playing near the rock formation in the street. If you're looking for a chill spot to grab a drink, this LIC brewery is definitely worth checking out! The beer selection isn't overwhelming, but I loved that they also offered wine and cocktails, which is a nice touch. I'm not usually into hoppy beers, but the Dubbel Dragon was my favorite, especially at a At 6.7%, it packed just the right punch. Three of those and I was feeling great, called it a night quick The vibe here is super chill, and the service was fantastic--definitely made the experience even better. The music was mostly rock, which was fine, but I wouldn't have minded a bit of 90s hip hop or rap in the mix for a little more variety. Great place to grab some beers. I got the 7oz of all the sours they had (Improper Berrial, Tangerine Queen, Plot Twist) and sat at a booth for an hour to enjoy on a snowy day. Tangerine Queen was my favorite of the 3 but they were all good. Bartender was very nice and quick with ordering. Focal Point (formerly Iconyc) makes some great beer and has a lots of options to try. Beers may be ordered in a tasting size to a full pint. Located on 12th street, you enter into a large sized tasting room, with lots of seating and a long bar. The IPA, Saison, Stout were all well made and tasted great. Service was quick and friendly. Once you choose your beers you can opt to sit inside or out in their yard. If you'd like to sit out on 12th street, that's OK too, they just give you plastic cups vs. glass. Inside is comfortable, but can get quite loud. Through the yard you can enter Sobremesa next door and order some terrific Mexican food to enjoy with your beer. Don't sleep on their nachos. Focal Point may be my favorite brewery to visit in the area. read more

Focal point is a delightful brewery in LIC which I'm sure is going to become a staple of my weekends. The drinks are good and relatively cheap--at least when compared to Manhattan. A 64oz pitcher came out to around 32 bucks which, for NY, is something I can't complain about. Staff were also very nice. There are a ton of options for seating, including inside, outside gravel, outside benches, etc. There is a ton of staff when it gets busy so the line is null. They have a projector which this visit was projecting a baseball game. The biggest downside is that the beers are a bit limited. Their options are fine and adequate if you're looking for more of a cool space. We've been twice and were able to have plenty of space for board games both times. Went to ICONYC as part of a self guided brewery tour recently. It is a large space with tons of seating both inside and out. Because of this it seems like a lot of parties happen.. we saw two birthday parties at the space during our time there! We shared a few tasters, with my favorite being the Desert Rose and my partner liking the ChroNYC the most. We also grabbed chips and salsa from next door as iconyc doesn't have food (they let you bring it in!). As a gal who likes sours, this wasn't at the top of my list because of the limited options, but the sour I did have was good and the other beer was solid for what it was (even if not my favorite). read more

This is the ultimately dog friendly brewery! It has got wide open spaces and amazing beer options + a full service bar. The only one minor downside is that the acoustics are pretty bad. I've been to Focal Point a bunch of times. Back when they were ICONYC, the space was really small on the inside, with a lot of outdoor seating. With the renovations, they've expanded their indoor area, which is huge and really nice. I absolutely love the outdoor area, and it's always packed in good weather. The bartenders here are really friendly. All the beers I've had have been great, and they also have wine and cocktails. Prices are quite reasonable as well. They also have trivia on Wednesdays! I'll start off by saying I'm not a beer drinker. It's not my go to drink. However, if I have to, this is my favorite place. I find their beers are so fresh and the flavors are amazing. During the summer, their Shademaker (pineapple brewed beer) is so refreshing. I recently tried their Oktoberfest and am so surprised at how tasty it is. I love their space and how it's so welcoming. They have a few indoor tables but their outdoor space is also heated. It's a great place to come meet friends and relax. They don't serve food but luckily, Lupo Rosso opened around the corner and serves excellent pizza to go with the beer. read more

Perfect spot to come for a mini date night. Sitting outside on a warm/ cool summer night with a beautiful breeze. The sky is amazing over here at sundown. My favorite drink to have is the berry one. I forget the full name of the beer but it's a sour flavor. I'm not a big drinker but my go is that beer. They recently got some new beers they have an 8%. This place is also great because there's a Mexican spot next door that you can order some food. I love that there's outlets inside the location. There's also a bathroom on site. I don't recommend going here after 9pm because the area gets a little sus at night. But overall never had a bad night here. So far I've been here twice and loved the environment and energy. The best beer in NYC baby! I love coming to iconyc, the vibe is always right. If it's the winter time, they got heaters outside so you can enjoy your beer outside. I enjoyed the beers very much. The 23oz was about $9-10 bucks each. You can also get different sizes like 12oz., 16 oz, etc. I think they do have some cocktails but this place is mainly for beer lovers. There is a bathroom inside with a decent amount of stalls. The area outside can get a bit sus at night so I recommend coming here during the day. I saw quite a few people bringing their dogs here as well. A great local brewery that does just enough different styles to keep it worth visiting every 2 weeks. Their hazy IPA is their best recipe, but they also do a good job on their saison and sour beers too. For Halloween, their pumpkin saison is a great variation on typical pumpkin ale. They don't seem to have many stout or porters, which would round out their portfolio. The space is perfect for Covid: lots of outdoor seating and a different high end food truck almost every day. The large picnic tables don't offer shade in the summer, but they have a smaller covered area under a tent that fits around 30 people. There are a few cornhole boards too to keep you busy outside. And the Wednesday night trivia is fun, offering some cool beer tab prizes. Overall, a chill and welcome beer spot in an out of the way area of LIC ! read more

This is an amazingly great hidden big spot to grab a draft beer! It's a brewery. They do not have food, but you can order food from Sobremesa (tacos) right next door or even have food delivered to the place. They have seatings indoors, but also a great outdoor seating space with long tables and benches. Great for groups also or just a place to go for beer and chat with friends. I like Pilsner, but that doesn't come in draft. They have it in a can though. I like draft, so I ordered a lager on draft. Pretty good. A 16oz is about $8. Reasonable price. They don't serve food but encourage you to bring in whatever you'd like to eat. There's a Mexican restaurant next door and Indian restaurant a few doors down and both are great options! I'm not much of a beer person so I ordered a few rounds of the Moonshine Margarita and it did not disappoint. Strong but well balanced! One of the many highlights at Focal Point is the lovely space. Because we were here for a private event we were in the smaller space right off of the court yard but there's space to drink outside and a hugeeee main bar area.
