When it comes to the Four Seasons, exceptional service is the standard I expect. Unfortunately, our experience at Fifty Mils fell short. Things started well with our first round of drinks and appetizers, and we were pleased with the pace. However, by the second round, the service became inconsistent, despite how straightforward it should have been. On our second round of drinks, most of us had gotten what we ordered, but after waiting 30 minutes for the last drink, it never arrived. When we mentioned this to another waiter (lord knows where our original waiter disappeared to), he brought the drink out immediately but then asked her to try it and let him know if she didn't like it--a bit of a red flag for me. That said, we loved the drinks and light bites we tried, but the service could--and should--have been impeccable. read more

On the menu while I was visiting were MOON'S STONES - Spicy potatoes cooked in chiltepín chili stock and special traditional sauce from Yucatán. Yes, they even look like stones from the moon too. So unbelievably unique for such a simple dish. I wish I could be having them again as I am writing this. Came here for a friend's birthday with a rather large group. We sort of trickled in over a couple hours and the staff was very accommodating and moving tables and trying to keep us together which I realize was difficult given the rain and the fact that the outdoor tables were not being used. We came for drinks and I really enjoyed the pink huichole. I also ordered a traditional paloma which was light and fresh. We ordered snacks to share and I enjoyed them all. There's construction in the original 50 Mils bar so it's been relocated to the garden area. You generally can't make reservations so feel free to drop by! Because of the construction the bar + service felt very slow and limited. They didn't have good tequila or mezcal available (that's what many websites claimed this bar was known for). When the waiters were there they super attentive and the cocktail list is pretty average from aviation to martinis. They also have some light bites. It definitely felt like a fancy experience but I don't think it was up to par with a great experience. read more

My boyfriend and I came here twice during our stay in CDMX. They have tasty, inventive, but STRONG cocktails with presentation that is out of this world. Collectively we tried the Mr. White Rabbit, Ant Man, 360, and Billy the Kid. Aside from the 360, which was just okay, everything was amazing. Service at the tables is top notch, but service at the bar can be spotty. The bartender is responsible for making drinks for everyone in the establishment as well as being the server for all the people sitting at the bar, and it's just too much for him to do. Wow as cheesy as it sounds, this place doesn't just offer drinks but an actual experience. If you sit at the bar or you have a view of the bar you can see the very talented mixologists beautifully create each drink. Some of the drinks such as the white rabbit also have quite an interesting presentation. My friend and I tried the white rabbit, ant man, the fly aviation and I believe the bugs bunny. The bugs bunny is presented with ingredients you can dabble with each in a test tube. Our server told us that one of the herbs would numb the tip of our tongue slightly when chewed and add interest to the flavor. A little nervous at first, we grew to love the sensation and comparing all the flavors. This is a beautiful bar with great drinks and small bites situated in a lovely hotel. There is also a courtyard patio next to the bar that could provided a romantic spot. The bar was definitely on the quieter side and would be good for a date or laid back night out although you would want to dress up a little. read more

My husband Matt B. and I went to Fifty Mils at the Four Seasons for a Sunday nightcap a few weeks back. It was the last night of our trip to Mexico City, and we were feeling kind of weird and bummed after a strange dinner in a dead restaurant, not quite ready to retire to our dreary hotel room, but not especially excited to go sit in a weird empty bar. Most bars were closed, and we picked Fifty Mils in the hopes that it would be open for tourists and hotel guests who needed a place to drink. We called ahead--both the bar and the hotel--and when no one picked up, we decided to just head over. We were relieved to find that we'd guessed right. Not only was it open, it was actually kind of lively. It was a beautiful place--we kept thinking we should've stayed at the Four Seasons instead of the Hyatt Regency; the price difference wasn't even that severe. The bar, like the rest of the hotel's lobby level, was richly decorated, with the kind of bold, tasteful furnishings that only a very expensive interior designer would think to put together. It was pretty brightly lit, but I didn't especially mind, what with the space being so lovely. We got a little table for two and never once had to go up to the bar. Service wasn't super hands on, but it was good enough. We were supplied with two bowls of fancy nuts and a thick bound book of a menu, complete with color photographs. The cocktails were outstanding, fun and creative and absolutely delicious. We only stayed for two rounds, which means we only tried four of the twenty or so that caught my eye. We started with the Billy the Kid and the Bugs Bunny. The Billy the Kid was a brilliant cocktail, boozy, sweet, and aromatic, made with butter-washed Bulleit bourbon, Zubrowka vodka, caramel tea, saffron and cinnamon syrup, lemon, Angostura bitters, and salt. It came in an tin mug on a piece of charred wood, which got a blast from a blowtorch to release its woodsy scent. The Bugs Bunny was light and whimsical, topped with a nest of sweet dehydrated carrot floss and a couple of lemongrass stalks that stuck out like bunny ears--the "What's up, Doc?" of it all. It was wonderfully tasty, with Tanqueray Ten gin, carrot juice, lemongrass syrup, three chili bitters, fresh cactus, Fernet perfume, and salt. For round two, we tried another leporine cocktail--the Mr. White Rabbit, made with Tanqueray Ten, creme de cassis, St. Germain, lemon juice, English breakfast, lemongrass syrup, and lavender bitters. This was superb, refreshing and balanced, and it came with a whole test tube set-up that added intrigue to both the presentation and the flavor. The test tubes held strands of golden root, which we were meant to chew to fuck with our taste buds, like the mushrooms in Alice in Wonderland. It worked--this stuff was like Sichuan peppercorn or something, changing the way the drink hit our tongues. The Hot Primavera was also fantastic, a hot drink with Don Julio reposado tequila, caramelized guava, vanilla syrup, nutmeg syrup, rooibos, chamomile, and hoja santa bitters. It was warming and fragrant, served in a satisfyingly earthy heavy cup. These were world class cocktails, probably the best we had in Mexico City, which is by no means short on craft cocktail joints. At $200 pesos a pop, or between $10 and $11 in U.S. dollars, they were downright reasonable too--a bar of this level, in a Four Seasons in the States, would charge somewhere around double that amount. You might miss the point of Mexico City if you spend all of your time at Fifty Mils, but it's certainly worth a leisurely visit or two, especially if you're in town on a Sunday night. read more

When you want to kick it up a notch on the bougieness, look no further than Fifty Mils, a indoor and outdoor bar that sits in and by the courtyard of the Four Seasons. The outdoor area is really nice during both night and day as they have some Instagrammable lighting and little areas for groups that are semi private due to surrounding plants. Drinks here are delicious, unique, and cheap compared to the US. Some of the drinks come in unique containers and will have some out of the ordinary ingredients such as ants. My mother and I visited this bar about 6 times during our stay and while the drinks and food are outstanding, as well as the indoor and outdoor ambiance, what we will remember is the service by 2 staff in particular: Sergio and Alberto. We got to know Sergio especially over several visits and were blown away by his professionalism, attention to detail, work ethic, conversation, and overall charm and integrity. Alberto we met on our last day and we could have talked with him forever about Mexican history (all our own initiation). We stopped here on our last night in CDMX, and it was such a wonderful surprise! The drinks were phenomenal, so elegant and sophisticated... After tasting, "Mr. White Rabbit", I could have easily been Alice going through the Looking Glass, Or maybe I was Neo following the white rabbit in the Matrix, and redefining the reality of what it means to truly taste for the first time. Mr. White Rabbit was a cocktail of Tanqueray Ten, Creme de Cassis, St. Germain, Lemon Juice, English Breakfast & Lemongrass syrup, and Lavender Bitters. The concoction was surprisingly zingy and aromatically complex upon first sip. Then you opened the test tubes, one at a time, and chewed on a twig before taking another sip. The way the compounds in the twigs interact with your taste buds makes your mouth alive with what feels like electricity in each sip. I could have easily been chewing on 50 Mils version of a Starburst, while making out with Thor, God of Thunder, himself! That's how electric and alive the sensations in my mouth were. Each twig was different, and provided a unique sensation/flavor profile for the sip of the cocktail it interacted with. Hands down the coolest cocktail I've ever had anywhere in the world... My compadres had some interesting drinks as well. One had Mezcal tequila margarita with black soldier ants floating within, another a saffron/gin concoction and the list goes on and on. Each drink was an experience, though no one seemed to be as tickled as I was by my Mr. White Rabbit... I actually used the salt on the rim of mY glass to flavor the food. Next visit was on a Thursday around 6pm. You'd have thought we were at a Vegas nightclub at 2am with the volume and style of the music. Again, I know this is a bar, but it's the Four Seasons and it's early evening/late afternoon. So, I saw the reviews of this place and definitely listed it as one of my places to visit while in CDMX. We went on a chill night. A lot of people were ordering the rabbit drink with all the test tube looking things. It's been a while so I can't remember the names of all the drinks. My first one was better than my second one. It's the one that has won all the awards, so ask for the award winning drink. Haha it was perfect. The second I ordered for presentation which was undeniably nice, but I barely finished it which is a rarity for me honestly. It might have had something to do with the avocado inside. Surprisingly, drinks are only $10 US or so, so we kind of over ordered. - PP colada: with soy milk and coconut water - Daiquiri: solid, well balanced - Ant man: mezcal and ant chili ash, powdered milk - slightly creamy, definitely unique - Cor cocktail: too sweet for me. - 360: the gin based cocktail is suspended in an ice ball - you have to drink it in 12 minutes or put it into a glass. It's cool that the melting ice drips down to the succulent underneath - Billy the kid: wooden bitters - torched rum barrel wood - smells like toasted marshmallow Snacks: corn nuts and chipotle pretzel sticks. Presentations on drinks were cool, but no drinks were super standout in flavor. We had an absolutely wonderful time at Fifty Mils. We had read it was the 45th best bar in the world and it did not disappoint. Our server, Sergio was fantastic. We explained what lead us to the bar and he made sure that we experienced their signature drinks. Be sure to try the Ant Man and Mr. White Rabbit. The presentations were out of this world. The manager made sure to check on us and him and Sergio were happy to answer any questions about the cocktails. They even made recommendations for other cocktails bars in Mexico City and gave us an adorable gift bag as we left. This was one of our favorite experiences in Mexico City. I'm staying at the Four Seasons and Fifty Mils is setting the bar really high for inventive cocktail creations, service, and ambience. I've only stayed at one other Four Seasons in Maui and I think this bar holds true to the hotel brand's high standards. My wife ordered a nutella-stuffed olive, gin martini. I know it sounds weird, but it was delicious and very unique, which I can appreciate. I couldn't figure out what I wanted so I just told them a few things I like and they came up with a perfectly balanced cocktail which really hit the spot. I said Gin, Citrus, Cinammon and out came a grapefruit juice, gin, ancho reyes, and light cinnamon syrup (not sweet, just how i like it) cocktail over large ice cubes. They also went out of their way to write us some restaurant recommendations. I would highly recommend hitting up this bar if you are visiting Mexico City. read more
