My second time here and it was once again a great experience. Took my brother here and we were only going to have a couple of drinks and it turned into 5. We had a reservation and they sat us at a table with other people but our server was kind enough to move us to the bar where I like sitting, because I love interacting with the bartender. I didn't order drinks from the menu, instead I asked the bartender to make me my favorite cocktails. Had a mezcal old fashioned, an espresso martini with Gin, a Carajillo, then I asked bartender to surprise me with a drink that had mezcal and it was fantastic! Drinks are amazing! Staff is amazing! I'll be coming back every time I visit CDMX!
Even before arriving in MX, we had been hearing about Hanky Panky so I had made sure we had reservations for while we were there (I suggest texting via WhatsApp)! My friends who had been in the city for a couple of weeks already hadn't had a chance to go yet either so it made it even more of an exciting experience. We arrived for our reservation and were a bit confused on where it was as its a true hidden speakeasy but that makes it even cooler. We were brought in through the hidden entrance and sat at a great little booth. They have a sexy interior and everything is decorated very well. Our server walked us through the cocktail options/ experience and helped us decide on our cocktails for the first round. Every cocktail we tried through the night was unique, enjoyable and well crafted BUT I will also note that they are very weak in their strength which meant you could drink / spend a ton without feeling much. All in all, this is a great place to pop in to try and to add to your list for while in Mexico City!
Absolute gem worth visiting next time you're in CDMX. Speak easy vibes start right at the beginning when you arrive and have no idea what you're looking for or where you're at. The outside is just a bare bones storefront that also serves as a waiting area. We arrived with a reservation during a rush and got one of the best seats in the house, which are the seats on the side of the bar. Inside vibes are dark, intimate, and lounge-like. The place seats maybe about 15 people. Stayed long enough to see a few rushes come through and try a handful of their different cocktails. The flavors are very unique and you will likely need them to explain the flavor profiles to get a better idea of what you're ordering. I always love ordering dealers choice, which was their spin on a Negroni (which I mentioned was my go to cocktail). Who doesn't love a man who listens!?! Lol. We tried the sandwich with truffle mushrooms and I could've ordered one to go it was so good! If you're looking for classic speak easy vibes don't skip this one and make a reso in advance.
Loved this bar! Here's why: - Even on a busy Friday night (with no reservation), we only waited about 30-45 mins to get in. - Waiting is a breeze. Grab a seat at the huge table, buy a beer and chill in the "taco shop" - Bartenders were friendly, engaging, and super talented. - We tried 4 drinks and all were top notch. - Loved the ambiance. Super comfy bar seats, cozy vibes, fun environment all around. - We sat at the bar (there were two of us), but there are booths and a small side room with a curtain enclosure which would be perfect for groups - The real speakeasy vibes come from the contrast of the front compared to the interior, plus the entry and exit. Go and enjoy!

What an absolute delight. When you think of speakeasy, this is what I think of. When you get there, you think, the address says I'm here, but what? And you'll probably wander around for a few minutes thinking your GPS has steered you wrong until someone takes pity on you and says, here, what you're looking for is here. And it's a ... taco stand? But you'll give your name to the host/ess and wait for a few moments and then you'll be taken through a door and transported to a cozy spot that is Hanky Panky. The vibes of this place are laid back and casual. We enjoyed it the most of the handful of bars were visited in CDMX. The bartender we had was fun and interactive. The drinks (both alcohol and non-alcohol) were fantastic. What I loved about Hanky Panky is several of their cocktails they will make an NA version versus just a completely different menu. As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, sometimes I see cocktails and really wish I could try them, but can't. This was a wonderful way to do that. Strongly recommend making a reservation. Enjoy!
This is a true speakeasy in Mexico City hidden inside a taco shop - we waited 1.5 hour since we didn't have reservations ahead of time so I would recommend doing that if you can. Once we got in, the service and ambiance was amazing. It was informative and each drink is curated so uniquely. Excited to go back!
One of the best bars I've been to, hands down. Vibes were great, drinks were delicious and so cool in their presentation. It's a very small speakeasy you have to go through a door behind the check in to get into (and you leave through a vending machine). We sat in the big booth downstairs but had no one else with us and it was so fun. Their signature drinks are shown through a viewfinder, which we thought was so unique. The staff was friendly and helpful, multiple people helped us, and we were able to use our entire allotted reservation time. This was once on the list of top 50 bars in the world and I really think it should be added back on, we absolutely loved it.
Came here during our trip to try out some of the top bars in the area. This one was really fun because of the speakeasy aspect to it, it's funny because we actually had trouble finding it even though it was right in front of us! Make sure to get a reservation, we made ours on opentable but due to getting a little lost we were late. Fortunately they were still able to seat us though we had to share a table with another group. The space inside is actually quite small with only a few tables and bar space. The ambiance was very mysterious and dark which definitely added to the vibe. The service we received was fantastic and very quick, could be because of the desired fast turnover but nonetheless we didn't have a problem with it. The drinks were delicious, though if you are looking for a mojito, you would need to look elsewhere. Overall, we are so happy we got to experience this and we also really enjoyed the exit. If you go, you'll see what I mean!
Hanky Panky is one of those more touristy spots that you hear about before coming to Mexico City, so I already had it on my list of places to check out while here. As a speakeasy, it looks like a relatively nondescript and generic little hole-in-the-wall taco spot upon approaching. We went on a Tuesday evening without a reservation, and while they initially told us it would be about an hour and a half wait, we ended up getting bar seating within about twenty minutes! Service was OK...maybe it was a bit of an off night, who knows? But the bartenders seemed a little bit irritable and it took some time to get their attention whenever we wanted to order another pair of cocktails to try out. The ambiance inside is a bit dark....but it goes well with the bright neon light for Hanky Panky - it definitely creates a slightly mysterious and intriguing atmosphere! Now for the cocktails themselves...overall, I enjoyed the theming. Each of the 'main' or 'signature' cocktails are from different regions of the world, inspired by that area's food and culture. I can't remember the exact names of all of them, but the Thalassaki drink from Greece was memorable for its interestingly shaped glassware. There was also a blue one with some edible garnishments, which was the highlight of the night with a deliciously silky smooth and lightly creamy flavor to it. The others...were fine, but honestly didn't leave me with anything particularly notable to remember regarding them, especially considering this is one of the Top 50 Bars in North America.. Overall, I'd say a visit to Hanky Panky Cocktail Bar is well worth the experience if you've never been before and wish to check out some of CDMX's highly regarded speakeasies. As for return visits in the future....I'm not all that certain I'll be back.
An okay experience. Everyone told us we HAD to come to Hanky-Panky prior to our trip to CDMX so we headed in one night. Overall it was just an okay experience. To start we were seated at a large table with a bachelorette party...I don't know who assumed that two guys would have any desire to share a table with a large bachelorette party but we were not, and we were not happy. We considered getting up and leaving right then but decided to stay to hopefully get moved to the bar. The drinks were good but honestly nothing overly noteworthy, I had the Italian inspired one to start and my friend had the old fashion which he did not enjoy. I must say service was impeccable and our host could not have been more sweet and attentive. We also ordered some light fare such as the popcorn, potatoes and olives which were good. Just as we decided we couldnt deal with our seating sitation and were getting up to leave our host said we could move to the bar so we sat for another drink, these were a bit better but still nothing amazing and now we were dealign with a raucus group at a table nearby who were being so loud everyone sitting at the bar, and the bartenders, were complaining. This made our experience even worse. I wish we had a better experience at Hanky due to its great reviews and potential but I cannot recommend this place. Service was perfect and drinks were good, but nothing overly impressive, outside of that our experience was less than stellar.
I almost don't want to give away the location because finding it, even with the address known, is part of the fun. Just confidently walk into the storefront food shop with a large table and chairs and ten then you have a reservation! They were very friendly and waved us in off the sidewalk as we were a bit bewildered (and didn't have reservations; just hoping and praying). Once inside the dark, very busy space with a couple rooms, long bar and some booth seating, the friendly, English speaking, knowledgeable staff will explain the large cocktail menu (many which can be made without alcohol if that's your thing). There is a creative beverage for every palate and there is a section dedicated to collaborations with mixologists from all over the world. Will definitely return to sample several more of these unique drinks. And also the food, which were didn't try as we came after dinner. read more
Hanky Panky is a popular speakeasy located in Mexico City, known for consistently being on the list of North America's 50 Best Bars. It's considered the "OG speakeasy" of the city and focus on creative cocktails from around the world. We didn't realize that the storefront was a simple looking restaurant so we kept walking back and forth. The entrance to the bar was in the back leading us to a completely different space. We made reservations and it's pretty much required to have one to be seated. Depending on your table size you might also have to share a table with others but they also have bar counter space. Their main menu of 12 cocktails were all made by the bartenders there. Part of the menu also contained cocktails from other bars around the world. The end of the menu was rounded out with classic cocktails with a Hanky Panky twist. Our party of five ordered most of the 12 main cocktails and some of the others. My favorites were the il fresco (peachy and coffee-y), grand bazaar (most spirit forward drink they have), and hanky panky (fat-washed with cacao nibs and menthol from fernet branca). All of the drinks were great though. The hot dog was also delicious! When we left we walked out of a Modelo "fridge" which was unique. The space and the vibes really were the definition of "speakeasy" because it was such a cool space. The environment was so fun and we had such a good time here. read more

Waited a hot minute to get in but it was so worth it. We were a larger party so it made sense. Service was great and they had a lot of unique cocktails. There was also food in the front outside while you wait which was nice. read more

True speakeasy located below an unassuming taqueria. Their reservations are on OpenTable and only for 5,7,7.30 pm slots. So I'm guessing you've to wait for others in person. We went in for a 5pm slot and had a local tell us where to wait because the nametag is not present or obvious. Everyone in the taqueria was staff that was having a meal but it felt like we were waiting at a taco joint w locals... Until we knew of the facade. They take you downstairs and there's communal booth spaces or bar seating. Menu is huge. They have their signatures, drawing inspiration from around the world as well as a list they designed in collab w bars around the world, and maybe some classics. No wines, no spirit tasting... Which is exactly how a cocktail speakeasy should be. Drinks are fantastic, service is impeccable and they also gave us a celebration bubby for my bday! read more

Fun little speakeasy hidden behind a taco shop where the drinks are travel themed. Concept is cool but unfortunately the drinks are no bueno. We ordered two drinks and did not enjoy both as the flavors just tasted off balance. The music was also way too loud. We went to 6 bars in CDMX and this was our least favorite. read more
Ranked #93 by World's Best Bar and #35 in North America for 2024! This is definitely a speakeasy since we couldn't find the location for a while but then soon learned that the entrance is actually the storefront of a taco shop. Pretty clever and got us! We were able to snag a last minute reservation and they ended up sitting us at a table with 4 other strangers who were also tourists. Although it was a bit awkward at first, the booze set in and we had some great conversations with our fellow travelers. The space is small so it makes sense that they would do that. The namesake drink "Hanky Panky" is strong but with the addition of a white chocolate complement smoothly goes well together. My favorite drink was the Grand Bazaar which was spirit forward and had a soaked plum that was boozily divine. read more

Check-in with the hostess in the back of the restaurant and wait to be walked through the kitchen to the bar. Hanky Panky was dark and moody with a touch of vintage vibes. They specialize in drinks inspired from around the world. Everyone in our group ordered a different drink and each one was good. I had the Tatra from Solvakia. It was light, refreshing, not overly sweet with a hint of matcha. Great place for after dinner drinks with a cute exit through the Modelo drink case. read more
We had a reservation for Hanky Panky right at their opening time at 5pm. We ended up getting bar seating, which I recommend so that you get to chat with the bartenders. I really enjoyed the vibe of this speakeasy. We went to several cocktail bars in CDMX, but Hanky Panky had the most personality. There were 4 bartenders at the time, and the 2 that were serving us were very interactive and fun. They have a wide variety of speciality cocktails that are inspired by different places in the world, so it was fun to look at the different ingredients and pick among the drinks. I will say that none of the drinks I had or tried really wow-ed me, but they were all good and the vibe made up for that. There is a 2 hour time limit for your visit, but we stayed for about an hour and 15 minutes, which was plenty to try a few drinks. Overall, I'd say Hanky Panky is worth checking out! read more
The cool thing about CDMX is that you meet cool people that give you recommendations on other cool places that you did not know about. As I was pouring mad drinks down my throat at Handshake, the woman next to me mentioned Hanky Panky and its billing of top 50 bars in the world. When I heard that, I immediately made reservations for the following evening. Me and a friend came by around 5pm on a Saturday evening. I searched the area multiple times and did not see the place until I ducked into a nearby store and asked where this place was. I did not do enough research to know that its hidden within a taco joint. Nice...love that! Staff walked me through a very thin hallway and down a couple steps if I remember correctly and all of a sudden it fely like I was in a totally different place. Very dark and speakeasy like, the way I like it. We were sat on the other end of the very popular neon Hanky Panky signage which was cool to get pics. Menu looked good, but of course I saw the one mezcal cocktail on the menu called the Guelaguetza. This drink was awesome as it came with a spoon of chocolate foam. The Tiger Punch was delicious as well. I enjoyed my time here as its a cool joint with good drinks and great vibe. Everyone here was having a good time. My only issue is that they dont go off script to make drinks as all drinks are batched our bartender told us. Aside from a couple drinks, not much spoke to us on the menu in that moment so we started asking for dealers choice and she mentioned she couldnt do that. Im like wow, how does this place have a top 50 in the world billing if they cant make cocktails not listed on the menu. Great (and popular) speakeasy in Mexico City. Very cool vibe with a surprise entrance and exit. Service was very good and prices were reasonable. No wine or beer, just cocktails and a few light snacks. If you want to visit a cool hangout then try Hanky Panky. read more

Hanky Panky is the real deal when it comes to speakeasies. You make your reservation through OpenTable, and the entrance is cleverly disguised as a humble taco spot. Once they call your name, you're guided through the back, behind curtains--suddenly you're transported into a cozy, intimate bar with moody lighting and a slick vibe. We were seated at the bar (based on our reservation size), and honestly, I'm glad we were. The bartenders are incredibly skilled, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Watching them work was part of the experience--they prepare each drink with such precision and creativity, and no two drinks are the same. One of the highlights was the interactive toy they give you to explore cocktails inspired by cities around the world. It was a fun and unique touch that made the experience even more immersive. Every cocktail was well-balanced, inventive, and expertly crafted. This was easily one of the best bar experiences I've ever had. Ugh...really wish I could rate it higher. Went without a reservation around opening on a Tuesday and was able to be seated immediately. It's a cool concept, definitely a speakeasy in the sense that it's hidden in the back of a taco shop (do they actually serve food? No idea). They had just switched to a new menu. Also cool in theory, it was drinks inspired by different cities and they had a little viewfinder with city art. It could have been very cool but it was just very incongruent. The drink I wanted was apparently not ready? Not sure what exactly that meant but I pivoted and ordered something else instead. The drink I got ($200) was horrible lol. It was inspired by Greece apparently and was supposed to be salty to emulate the sea. It was gross. I was going to see if the original drink I wanted was available after but I ditched the bar after this. Space and concept are cool, prices are meh ($200-350 ish for drinks), service is good. But wow if the drink I had is indicative of the cocktail list as a whole I would never recommend this place. read more
Such a fun concept! Incredible cocktails with rotating menu, super friendly staff, amazing ambiance and decor, and positive vibes. I loved their unique menu book, "twelve wonders of mixology", which had the best recommendations in the back for CDMX. Reservations are recommended but we were able to get in without by waiting 30 minutes. read more
I totally understand why this is consistently ranked in the best bars of the world! I love a speakeasy vibe and hanky panky does not disappoint. The entrance is in an unassuming taqueria in a quiet neighborhood. I won't give too much more away to not spoil the surprise. After being led to the bar we had amazing service from our bartender. They also encourage interaction with the other guests and we got to know our neighbors well in the two hours we enjoyed at the bar. The cocktails are smooth and well balanced. The music is vibey and completes the sexy vibe of the bar. I had the tartas and espresso martini! If you like matcha you'll love the tartras. Book in advance or show up early because the bar stays busy!! read more

Such a cute little speakeasy! The bartenders were super friendly and welcoming they even let me in before my reservation, which I really appreciated. The vibe is intimate and stylish, perfect for starting off your night. Some cocktails were definitely better than others, but overall it's a great spot to grab a drink and ease into the evening before kicking things off elsewhere. read more
Such a cool speakeasy! The entrance is through a small shop! I made reservations through Open table to come here for drinks on Saturday. We sat by the bar and ordered a round of drinks. I got the tigers punch and my husband got the Oaxacan old fashioned. I really liked my drink here.. it was one of their popular drinks and was recommended by the bartender. We also ordered some food, the shrimp tempura app, it was nice but not having deveined shrimp really bothers me and for that I'm reducing a star. Service was friendly and prices were a bit high considering how elite getting in here is. The exit was pretty cool, we exited through a refrigerator. read more

Ranked number 22 on world's 50 best bars list. Speakeasy that's tucked inside a taco shop. Highly recommend reservation as it's a popular destination. Enter and be escorted into the speakeasy space. Moody, dark, with vibrant neon signs. Bar seating a limited booth seating. Energetic staff but do wish they were a bit more personal and engaged with us. Menu is called Passport, a logbook and reflection of experience and connection from around the world. Each drink is inspired by another country. - God Save the Queen: tequila altos plata, licor limoncello, licor de durazno - SPQR: lillet blanc, tito's vodka infused with citrus, soda de galliano con agua de coco - White Palace: tito's vodka infused with alga nagai. soda calpis de durazno clarificado, st. germain, saline - Tiger Punch: ron matusalem gran reserva 15, amaretoo disaronno, sriracha, te negro, pimienta negra, pimienta roja, cardamomo, clavo, curry, lemongrass, curcuma, jengibre, limon, piel de limon amarillo Favorite drink was Tiger Punch. Love the speakeasy concept here--the interior is really stylish and cozy. They have some interesting drink concepts, but flavor-wise, they weren't all my favorites. We tried the Fera Tropical, which was very smooth, Thalassaki, Tatras (my favorite of the night), and Império, which I wasn't a fan of--it had a weird aftertaste. Overall, we definitely tried other bars in the city that I enjoyed more. Worth a try so definitely make a reservation ahead of time read more
If you didn't know, Hanky Panky was named one of the top 50 bars in the world in 2023, and after experiencing the speakeasy vibes and tasting the cocktails, I can see why. Don't get me wrong, the drink itself was good, but I think what makes this place special is the vibes. The place is a bit more spacious than Handshake and the music is a bit lower so we could actually talk. But the presentation of the drinks and explanations by the staff were lacking. I felt that Handshake actually made itself an experience. The caprese drink here was just ok- no one was blown away by their drink here read more
