I recently visited Figlmuller Backerstrabe in Vienna after hearing it's a must-try spot for Schnitzel. Be prepared for a long wait (it took around ~2 hours outside of normal dining hours and the line kept growing). I heard they accept reservations, but booking must be at least 20 days in advance. Once inside, the staff was friendly and offered helpful suggestions. Here's what I tried:
- Schnitzel: 8.8/10: The classic dish was perfectly battered and flavorful, with large, tender pieces of schnitzel. Definitely worth trying.
- Wienerschnitzel: 9/10: Also nicely battered and surprisingly a bit more flavourful than their classic dish. Another dish worth trying.
- Viennese Braised Beef: 7.5/10: Hearty with tender pieces of beef. While the beef was great, the dish lacked complexity in terms of flavor and ingredients.
Potato Salad: 8/10: Simple yet refreshing, with good-quality potatoes.
- Kaiserschmarrn: 7.8/10: Softer than what I've had at other places, served with two types of plum sauce. One was fresh and refreshing, while the other had a more citrusy flavor.
Overall, it was a solid experience with classic dishes like the Schnitzel and Wienerschnitzel. read more
