The teaching is organic, personalized, and I feel that I have been able to take away deep, even philosophical lessons that apply immediately in the real world. They truly respect Wing Chun as an art and something to master, not just memorize and do for show. Coaches Patrick and Jenna were beyond friendly and were nothing short of kind and patient with helping my daughter as were the other students in her class. They offer a kids class 3 days a week for $150 a month - you can go as many of the 3 days as you'd like so you essentially could get 12 classes a month for $150. That is a great deal! They also offer plenty of adult classes and even an open mat day! The inside was very clean and had 2 separate sitting areas - they also have a huge gym area. My 6-year old is Autistic and even he is comfortable with leading stretches every once in awhile! They really emphasize the importance of self-discipline, believing in one's self, and making good choices while at the same time encouraging one another, maintaining a positive environment, and having fun in the process of learning. Not only is Northern Shou Shu the most comprehensive and effective martial art around, every single person there treats you like family. The studio has seen me through recovery from a triple fusion in my cervical (neck) area, never pushing me beyond the point of safety. I never have to hide who I am or what I'm going through when I walk through those doors. The people who I now refer to as my brothers and sisters have helped me immensely...like the times I lost both of my parents. When I didn't know what to do with myself during intense grieving periods, I went into the studio. They helped me channel my grief into my art and it was a place of great refuge, healing and amazing productivity. There were times when I had tears in my eyes, but nobody made me feel weird about it, they are all Uber accepting and empathetic - not to mention incredibly skilled. I recently earned my brown belt and now my eyes are pointed toward my black belt.
