We had to send our best friend of 14 years to Heaven yesterday. I can't say enough good things about Final Journey. I first called in the sprinig since our 16 yr old dog wasn't doing well at all. They were kind and compassionate as I asked about their services and told me that they didn't need too much notice. I then called them in September as our baby had gotten so much worse. Yesterday was truly one of the worst day of my life so far. After 16 years, 1 month & 14 days of love, fun, and silliness, Remi passed away peacefully in my arms with the dignity that he deserved. I, on the other hand, ugly cried for an hour or so... I am now doing better than expected and I think that's because he truly needed & deserved that peaceful end. My cat was frightened. They didn't bother to really greet him or interact with him. They said kind words to ME but didn't reach to let him sniff or bend down to his level. Their masks frightened him. When he got really scared and tried to leave my husband had to hold him down. She used the sedative needle form behind and he screamed when she injected him. I never got to look in his eyes as he lost consciousness because he was scrambling to get away. I am sick that I allowed it to happen. I wish I'd told them to get out and if find someone else. No one said the needle would hurt so much. This gentle cat never ever screamed. It was a horrible experience, I would think all of these things would be figured out by a company that only does this, especially for 400 dollars. I regret this decision so much. The only reason I wanted to write this review was in the hopes that my review may help another family & pet through the very hard process of "saying good bye" just as Final Journey helped myself, my family & most importantly, my dog. My 12 year old Shar-pei Chunkie P decided that he was ready to go last month even though we weren't ready whatsoever to say good bye. He stopped eating & we brought him to the vet who told us the devastating news - it was his time & he was telling us that. I didn't want to say good bye at the vets office - Chunk deserved so much better than to pass away in a strange place surrounded by strange people so we took him home. The next 24 hours were absolutely horrible knowing what was to come but we spent every last second with our amazing boy that we could. When they arrived at our house, I was so taken back by their demeanor. Kristen & Connie were truly like angels - they were soft spoken, caring, kind & beyond compassionate not only for Chunk, but for myself & my husband as well as our other dog Moose who was losing his lifelong partner in crime. They explained everything again (as much as we wanted to hear) & they were so accommodating - they wanted Chunk's passing to be as comfortable & peaceful as possible for everyone including Moose (they even encouraged he stay if that would be best for him & Chunk). As his health stabilized and declined a few times, I kept reaching out and tentatively scheduling then canceling a date, yet there was complete understanding and sympathy for the decision I had to make. When they day came for me to say goodbye to my beloved Charlie, I texted Final Journey and asked them to come out sooner than what we had originally scheduled because he was in so much pain at that point.
