What is it with listing agents in Northern Virginia? We have encountered four absolute…read moreunprofessional and unorganized people in our search for a rental house. Like one idiot who said our dogs wouldn't be a problem and after we submitted our applications and checks... THEN informed us that the dogs were an issue. This scenario was just another waste of our time and money. This time around, instead of dealing directly with listing agents through Zillow or Trulia, we hired our own real estate professional and she is an absolute doll. She got us several tours of homes in the areas we preferred. One such property was listed by Fairfax Realty and this character Norberto Vignoli was who we dealt with. One thing that bothered me right off the bat was the fact that our credit reports were sent to Norberto, but our application was never sent. Why did this bother me? Norberto never knew we were asking for a two year lease. These people were unorganized. We toured the house and it was 99% perfect for what we were looking for. So I took the next day off of work in order to get the paperwork in order and secure the two cashiers checks they required. Most companies require a cashiers check for the application fee and a personal check for the month deposit. Not these people. Red flag number one. I dropped off the application and checks to their beautiful office in Falls Church. I handed it to Jasmine (at the front desk) who was going to run our credit checks. The next day, I spoke with Norberto who told me we were approved. I was elated to finally find a place. But he then went on to inform us of some sketchy things AFTER we had already submitted our applications and checks. If any of the appliances, the AC or the heater broke down within the first 60 days, the owner would take care of it...BUT after that, we would have to pay their $100 deductible???? Really? Not only that, but we would then have to pay the worker's bill and the owner would allow us to take it out of the next month's rent? WHAT? Why can't the owner pay with his credit card over the phone? Why are we getting involved? We would have been paying premium rent after all. More red flags. We gave our notice and plans were being made to pack and move. All of that came to a screeching halt when I asked Norberto about the unsafe albeit hazardous step in the front of the house. There was a steep drop from the driveway to the walkway that lead to the front door. I almost fell on my face the first time we visited the property and I was fearful that a delivery person or any person (for that matter) would get injured and sue us. I'm from California where everyone sues everyone for any reason at all, so you can understand my concern. So I asked Norberto if the owner would be willing to add a small amount of concrete to the drop off as to make it more safe. Norberto said no and suggested I pay for the repair myself. I suggested something be put in the lease so we would not be held liable. All Norberto had to say was that renter's insurance would cover us and the issue would have been solved. Instead, he decided not to rent to us. WHAT THE HELL!!!!! Now we were stuck because we had given our notice to move. And I took the day off for this? The following day, I called and texted Norberto and he just ignored me. Very professional. Later that evening, he texted our real estate person (she was on vacation in another state) asking her if I wanted our checks mailed or if I'd pick them up. HELLO? Why not communicate with me??? Why ignore me? Why ruin our plans over my worrying about the hazardous situation? What an abject asshole.

His response time to a phone call, text, or email is usually within a short window of time, even if only to say "I'll get back to you tomorrow if that's ok". We then have the opportunity to reply we are in a time crunch and Matt will make the time to find the answer that we need. His level of communication among the clients and me is superb. We always know what is happening, what the next steps are, and what the expected timeline is. The tenant listed his current address as a post office and listed the same landlord for his previous two residences, even though one was the post office in Arlington and the other one was in Atlanta. The tenant listed himself as the supervisor for one of his previous jobs even though he worked for a company and was not self-employed. There were many red flags not picked up by the realtor. I spoke with the CEO of the company about these issues and he was rude and dismissive. I would not recommend using this company.

Ultimately the seller was deceived into accepting a lower offer than others submitted, and the home went to a flipper connected to Jovan and his team. Further proof of this unethical, if not illegal, behavior can be seen by Jovan and Jennifer now representing that very same flipper who's desperately trying to sell the same property after polishing a turd! And, unfortunately, this flavor of behavior seems to be business as usual for these "professionals;" see another review posted that required legal action when this team refused to abide by contractual obligations!
