She was also quick. My locks were neat. She even did a little flat twist to add a bit of style. I got pipe cleaner curls. Just got my locs retwisted by the owner last week. I'm loving the results! I hadn't had a re-twist in about three months, and they were definitely overdue, but she got it done quick and had me looking fresh. She even took me in last minute. Because I had an important event that day and couldn't find anyone to do my hair but still manage to style it beautifully. I contacted this studio for LOC extensions. I was given a quote after asking a long list of questions including location time and date. I gave an approximate number of locs. Several days before I was sent three calendar invitations with the wrong time and date, which I emailed and asked about. I was sent corrections.. However on the day of, I arrived at the address only to be told I was at the wrong address. I waited 45 minutes for my stylist to arrive after she tried to argue me down despite sending her screenshots of her own confirmations. Upon her arrival she asked for the $1300 balance which was her policy (not shown anywhere). She was rude until she realized this was a deal breaker for me, then conceded to answer my remaining questions before I was able to pay and she could begin. As we came close to the end, she told me she was short on locs. She had only brought the exact number of locs. I asked her to combine the locs and style them . She proceeded to rush through my hair so that she could attend her book club. Two days later I undid the style to discover my entire crown undone. She had not combined the locs, she had not informed me of the style issue, she had not made an appointment to finish the service. She simply hid the unfinished work in a style. She was unreachable until the next day, and then refused to book until the weekend. The day of our appointment she informed me that she had an emergency and needed to move our appointment. So I've been debating about this review bc I had to consult some other locticians before I found out this lady was overcharging for a service. 1. I started following her on insta, I've been wanting Locs for about 10yrs but I never took the leap. She didn't know she was going to help me actualize my dream lol... but pics were amazing, reviews were great and no one had a valid complaint or did they?? 2. I dm about the consult and book an appointment $25 bucks that'll go towards my service if I choose to get it done?? That's cool. 3. FF to 1 day before the consult ....I never received and email confirmation so I'm now forced to dm this lady again about the appt. I ask how I should prep my hair as most people want it washed etc... she had no preference.. to figure I'm not touching dirty hair but ok... I do natural hair as well just not professionally so I'm pretty well versed in how you handle people's hair. 4. Day of I arrive at 945... shop isn't open.. is also in a sketchy area.. the sign on the door says "do not give change to beggars" being from SanFrancisco this triggered me... guess they think being homeless is easy asf idk I can give change to whomever I want...elitist much?? 5. 10:00 (new rescheduled appt time bc 2:30 was.. idk she offered for me to come earlier which I jump @bc who tf wants to be in the AZ heat if they dont have to be ? Opening stylist has her 1st client in the chair and I'm instantly filled with regret for not booking with her since at least she values her clients time. 6. 10:15 still no stylist... I check my msg to make sure I saw correctly, whole time my husband is texting me that I should leave bc she should have already day been there he then says "you're better than me" all POC knows what that means; it means you're a damn fool. 7. 10:30 stylist come in, no mask ( I guess she said Corona who!?!) and I sit in her chair. She compliments my hair (I get that a lot) she asks me is my hair thick or fluffed out..just fluffed I've never heard anyone call my hair thick or say I have too much lol I mean I cut 20 inches off just to start my Locs... glad you didn't see it then I'd have been charged 3k (lmfao) 8. She tries a coil and says my hair won't hold it... I mean my hair Locs up on it own daily I just wanted it professionally parted and started tf... so now she says I need Instant Locs since I don't want $1350 Locs extensions. Why th would I pay that much for someone else's hair?? Maybe it's a thing I never heard of it. 9. Instant Locs start at 700 and could poss bc 800?? If I want them smaller. When I said this on my fb page my loc'd friends in Cali suggested I buy a ticket and come up, get my hair done have a night on the town and fly home for the prices she's quoting. 10. I left disappointed bc this is my main gripe about black businesses... be on time!! Don't try to overcharge bc you think I'm willing to spend the equivalent to some folks rent on fake hair so 1/2 for real hair "shouldn't be an issue" Overall I'm not recommending my stylist at all! Maybe the other person who was there for her appt. with the same stylist walking in and out of the place without a face mask should have said more to me than it did. I'm literally sitting next to a person who could be potentially spreading a virus and no one in the shop said anything. Enforce the mask policy since it is a Glendale mandate. We agreed on a time & before I hung up the phone , she told me she would charge me $25 for a consultation & I said ok . We were running late to our appt time , so I called to notify her & asked if there's another time that would work best for her . She answered the phone saying just "hello" with children in the background screaming , so I felt like it was her personal line & not a business line . When we arrived , I had to wake my friend up from sleeping in the car because he was exhausted since we had been on a 5 day road trip . As soon as we entered her business , she looked very angry , was talking sharp & had a terribly rude attitude . I told her what we were looking for & she yelled at my friend to have him sit on the other side of the room (instead of him standing in front of her) . Then she rudely cut me off while I was talking & told me that if she even touched his hair that she would charge us $1500-$2000 for loc maintenance . (There was a salon full of customers in every chair & many stylists that she treated us this way in front of). I'm a professional cosmetologist myself & I feel like she was being completely unreasonable & judgmental of our free spirited / artistic appearance etc . The owner here may have talent in twisting but she is very unprofessional when dealing with potential customers & she is extremely rude & judgmental . Lacks professionalism, false advertising and damaged my hair. We entered into a $1550 agreement to install loc extensions in accordance with the pic captures that includes size, color and length! Darnishia knew I flew in and made hotel arrangements. She contacted me around 5am very nonchalantly to indicate she wouldn't be available until 2pm. She didn't arrive to the salon until 5 which means she wasted 8 hours of my time and my flight home departed at 10pm and she was fully aware of my time restraints. Once I met her there she had her sister, nephew and 1 yr old baby on the unkept salon. To my surprise and add insult to injury she only had about 20 pre made loc extensions although I paid my $100 deposit two weeks prior. I wanted to give her a chance so I tried to be understanding and yet I the client didn't receive the basic level of client care. She was rushing to do my hair, didn't have enough hair, couldn't do my hair in the 3-4 hrs as advertised because of her own lack of preparation and she intentionally made my locs bigger and shorter. She then started cutting my locs and one can only assume because she ran out of the blonde hair for the tips. She asked her sister to search through some drawers to find some extra blonde hair...there wasn't any and she started cutting. I then got a mirror so I could see what she was doing and why...I was shocked to see my locs that didn't look like anything we agreed upon. Meanwhile, her 1yr old baby was teething and was crying off and on. I told her due to her extreme tardiness and now lack of skills that I didn't like my hair as it wasn't anything like we contractually agreed upon. She got an attitude and told me I would have to pay her $200 right then and there before she would take my hair down. I paid it and she cut the locs down so low it appeared she cut my hair...I then opted to leave as K was livid. After a phone call and text messages she refused to return my $300. Upon inspection of the locs that she did install, they are of poor quality and have many parts that are thin. I WOULDN'T recommend this place to my worst enemy!!! I will be utilizing all legal options to obtain a satisfactory remedy as now I need to pay someone to take my hair down. So I paid $300 for horrific service, hotel and air. Update: Went to a professional salon and they confirmed the loc's were incorrectly installed and as part of the take down process, I loss quit a bit of hair. 11/22/19 update: Business owner failed to respond to the better business bureau after they made several attempts to reach out to them. Just another example of their unprofessionalism. Based on all documentation provided, one would be a fool to do business with thshady owner. Spoke with the owner on the phone to get a quote, and she insisted that I schedule a consultation so she can get a proper quote. She said to do the consultation, I had to cash app her $25, and I sent her the money immediately and haven't heard back from her. My son started his locks here a few months ago. From my interactions with the owner to all the stylists I have nothing but positive to say. My 15 year old son started his dreads and they look great. The owner was professional, helpful, informative, the stylists I had the pleasure of working with were timely, and friendly. I do prefer the Ahwatukee location but that's just my personal Preference. The negative Reviews are spot on as if I could not have said it any better:: here is my disappointment...Absolutely horrible her attitude was extremely negative and bad and she makes you pay for the service before you sit down. I walked in she pointed in the direction where she wanted me to put the hair and I sat it down so she wouldn't have to take it out of my hand, she said it was for spiritual reasons. And I was telling her. I separated them and midsentence she said OK I need payment upfront. We barely had a conversation we didn't introduce ourselves nothing. It was just a dry blend I need payment before I start your hair. I was taken back because it felt like she had an attitude when I first walked in but then after she said that it pretty much confirmed my assumption. I looked at her and I asked her was everything OK because she had a snotty attitude. She said I'm fine. And I said OK you want the money first can you let me know what exactly you'll be doing here today. She said we're going to do what she booked for but I need payment first. So at that point I was pretty much ready to walk out the door. But we were talking back-and-forth and everything calmed down and I thought I knew her work so she began doing my hair and I paid her beforehand $885. After coming home five days later, I was oiling my scalp and looked in my hair. My hair was about 5 to 6 inches long. When she started it, she started my locs at the base of my hair. So she wrapped my hair so tight in the lock that it was a huge knot on each of my lock you'll see in the pictures below, I asked her for at least half of my money back and she said no her remedy was to redo my hair. If you could not do my hair the first time right I wouldn't let you do the same atrocious mess again! I don't trust her in my head. Do not be fooled by her posts. She is not all positive vibes. She is not the spiritual person that she is leading on to be she is deceitful. She is mean and lies about what she can do. Her pics are deceiving!!! She does some people's hair good and she does most people hair wrong. Also, while I was in her chair I booked, my next re-twist because I know she books fast so that was even before I seen my hair I canceled that appointment because I would not be going back to her and I had to take my locks out or my hair would be bumpy and when I canceled I didn't get my $40 deposit back for that service that was scheduled over a month away because I canceled. so I had to request it through my banking app. DONT BE FOOLED! My husband goes here to get his dreads retwisted and styled and this place has not disappointed. They are clean. His hair looks great and it's quick. He's never had to wait on his stylist like the other salon we use to use and they've never cancelled on him. He doesn't have to wait for weeks for an appointment and so far he has had zero issues. I don't recommend this business due to the owner does not hold her stylists accountable when they miss appointments. I selected a time in advance and blocked out my schedule to get my hair done. I made the appointment at least a month prior. I get to the shop- door is lock. It took 30-45 minutes after me texting the owner to gain a response to why the stylist wasn't there. Per the stylist Tamia, she overslept due to personal conflicts at home. She requested I return the next day with a free hot oil's treatment (I guess I was supposed to jump for joy about this) as if I don't work.
