The Dr's are doing a great job. And reception is trying. There is good effort on their part, but something just isn't right? Takes a long time to complete check in and things back up. When calling for an appointment or changing an appointment, it takes many calls to speak to a person. I think another person is needed. I recently had a clinical visit with Dr. Baugnon, M.D., to review and discuss the examination results I received from another local eye firm, for which I was a patient of 40 years. I found that Dr. Baugnon was extremely informative and knowledgeable, had a caring attitude, very professional demeanor, with the intent of providing quality customer service to resolve my issues and concerns regarding cataract surgery and beyond. He was very honest and up front for all my questions and a future plan of action was developed in taking care of the patient/customer. Our experience with the optical department at Fine, Hoffman & Sims was horrible. It was a $380.76 mistake getting glasses there. The incompetence of the staff was compounded by the rude and discourteous treatment we received from their supervisory personnel. In a health care setting, there is some expectation that the patient's interests merit some consideration, but the optical department at Fine, Hoffman & Sims is strictly business (and a poorly run one), so it's caveat emptor (buyer beware). I caution anyone thinking about using the optical department at Fine, Hoffman & Sims to discount considerations of convenience or personalized service, because we failed to receive either. Just had cataract surgery which was a tremendous improvement for me. I was scared/nervous at first, but Dr Sims is amazing. She has a gentle caring attitude for her patients and strives to make one's vision the best she can offer. Of all the ophthalmologists in Eugene, she is the #1. Worst customer service I have experienced in my life. They did my eye exam and I bought glasses from them and they were wrong. I went back they reexamined and indeed they were off. I went in today 12/29/25 to pick up two sets of glasses one for looking at my compute/reading and then my normal glasses. I could tell instantly they weren't right. The lady helping was extremely rude and said well sorry but they are right. When I told her again they weren't she got up storm away and then came back to get me taki me to meet with two odd ladies in a closed room which was extremely uncomfortable. They kept gaslighting me trying to tell me my glasses are fine and it was my fault I didn't order the right glasses. Then someone ned Opal sent me a voicemail saying they were not going to refund me and were dismissing me from their office and not to comeback. So please do yourself a favor and don't take a chance with your glasses with these people. All I wanted was to be able to see better. read more

This used to be a great office with timely responses and gentle care. No longer can I say that. And making a call for assistance leaves you on hold for no less than 10-20 minutes. Trying to get a prescription took 2 days with the Rx being sent to the wrong town. The care and time with patients has a definite decline as well. Quite sad to see such a decline. Correction: The pharmacist was at fault re: the Rx, not FHSV. However when I called about the missing Rx, they gave me the wrong name for the new Rx. I give up. read more

I wanted to go with this practice for my vision needs because they were conveniently located near my other medical services. After about 2 years with them, it actually satisfies me to read the other negative reviews made about them! I am glad to make the decision to stop going there! There are a few assistants who give you a smile and a genuine greeting. However, Dr. Sims and her primary assistant never smile at you! Dr. Sims acts like you are just a number, not a human being! Dr. Sims is very cold, aloof and dismissive. She is very abrupt when you ask her questions! She apparently wants to get out of seeing you and move on to the next patient! It is not the patients fault if they have a high patient caseload! Dr. Sims and her primary assistant should be more kind and respectful to patients! A smile will not break your face!! Or maybe it will!! If you want to avoid a traumatic experience, do not go to Dr. Sims!! read more

Dr. Sims showed as much compassion and warmth as a Zombie. And had the same intellectual capacity. Ss soon as she realized she was not Qualified to guve me a Diagnosis She became dismissive and abrupt If she cared at all, it was smothered by his extreme curtness, lack of professionalism and minimal communication skills. I had an occlusion in my eye a couple of years ago. They should have referred me to a retinal specialist for imaging back then, but Dr. Hoffman chose a "wait and see" approach. I started getting giant floaters last October. He said they'd go away, but they didn't. In early April, I awoke one morning and could not see out of that eye at all, Again, he took me off my blood thinners and said we should wait for it to clear. He shrugged off any questions about it. Week after week, it didn't get much better. I finally had enough. I asked him for a prognosis of how long would my vision be impaired. This made him angry. He said that he was referring me to a retinal specialist so I could "go and complain to him." He made no attempt ay reasonable communication, but had a surly attitude. He said the specialist would want to aspirate my vitreous humor and that would be bad for the cataract there. The specialist I saw appeared concerned that no one had done any imaging of that eye since the occlusion. He was able to diagnose the bleeding and treat it right there in his office that day. It was a simple injection and takes a month to fully work. I could have had this treatment last year if I had been referred. Skip the flashy commercials and find a different place than this! read more

I had my eyelids done a few years ago and I couldn't be happier ! The Doctors go above and beyond to make sure the aftercare is exceptional. I had a problem after surgery because of a previous eye issue and it made the eyelid surgery a bit more complicated but the care I received after hours was amazing ! He saved the vision in my right eye within hours of me having an accident that left me with a cornea laceration. He's earned his wings in eye care, forging tools that increased the success rates for procedures and by gifting his services around the world. Dr. Hoffman has spent his career in much the same way. Both he and Dr. Sims attended to my father-in-laws eye disease care. My experience was much the same as a few others, tech performed 100%of my exam with Hoffman peeping in for the back of eye look. He did not confirm my rx He was preparing to immediately leave afterwards when I asked him what all the codes meant. I felt dismissed by his comment, "just things I saw in back of your eyes." I could go on but I think you'll get the picture. I'm vulnerable to loosing my eye sight and I do t think this facility are the ones I want. No compassion. Methinks so. I'm mostly just disappointed. The service at the exam was good, prescriptions accurate, and the staff friendly. The trouble began with the bill. The young woman who checked my wife in seemed distracted (hey, we all have a bad day), and we feared she wasn't going to bill our primary AND secondary insurance. Sure enough, when we got the bill, only ONE insurance company had been contacted. I called, spoke to someone, they said the second insurance would be billed and someone would call me back. The following month, got a bill, still no secondary insurance was billed. I called, spoke to Taylor, she said she'd see that it was billed properly, and someone would call. This month, good news, didn't get a bill, bad news, we got a note from a collection company! My wife called and was told by Fine, Hoffman and Sims that "its out of our hands, now that it's gone to collection." I called the office, was transferred to "accounting" and it rang for several minutes and no one picked up, no voice mail. I called right back, it rang and rang, and I got the "we're closed now" message. Odd, since I'd just spoken to someone there. I called back, the system hung up on me. I called again, was told it was "Jennifer" that I needed to talk to "and she's right here." Was then transferred to "Jennifer's" voice mail! I left a long and detailed message, with the details above, asked them to get us out of collection, and please dear lord bill the secondary insurance, and call my wife and let her know that you've done that. Hopeful, but not holding my breath. Exam great, prescriptions accurate, staff friendly, it's accounting that's the nightmare. read more

I myself have been seen here and took my son. They were ok with me, not super impressed but once I took my son in... I'll NEVER be back. They were so rude with him, he was nervous and doing this for the first time and they didn't help make him more comfortable. They have no repartee with kids. They were actually kinda rude to him. Wish I had read the reviews before booking an appointment. The historical reviews here are accurate. Whilst the staff is very 'nice' and friendly, they are wholly inefficient and ultimately unhelpful. They required (per policy, apparently, whatever that means) that I come in 3 times for a contact lens prescription. Never over multiple years of wearing contact lenses and going to multiple offices have I had to ever go back to be checked. Trials are provided at the time of check up, measurements are taken and maybe you wear for a week or 2 to make sure all is good before you place a full order. They refused to give me a trial pair with the new prescription insisting that their policy is that I wear a brand with the old prescription first (why?????) how am I supposed to assess if my sight is compromised. Sigh....taking my business elsewhere Also side note, they dilated my eyes and told me that I should be careful driving. They did not tell me that before the appointment. It was a bright sunny day and even with sunglasses I had great difficulty seeing after the appointment for several hours. It was frankly dangerous for me to drive home. Seems like a policy issue to not warn of this before the appointment or at time of application. read more

I ended a 15 year professional relationship with Dr. Annette Chang Sims at Dr's Fine, Hoffman and Sims due to her abusive and trauma inducing treatment of me once I was diagnosed with cataracts and glaucoma last year. I still have trauma around how cold and uncaring she was and after such a long term relationship. The clinic was willing to lose my business and our long term relationship rather than address her behavior and have her apologize to me. Her technicians said was quite 'normal' behavior for her, once she tells a patient they need surgery. She goes into 'surgery mode' they said and is very direct, impatient with any questions you might have or concerns. She seemed to get joy from making me feel dumb for asking questions. I was 49 years old and scared and she was not willing to answer any basic questions for me without giving snarky, rude and uncaring responses. I was so upset I BAWLED in the parking lot twice before deciding this woman could not operate on me. I no longer trusted her to do her job based on her abusive behavior, actions and words towards me. I have since pulled my entire families eye care from her clinic and will NEVER do business with her again. I STILL a year later have a trauma response from how I was treated and how uncaring the clinic in general was over the experience. Please, do not subject yourself or your loved ones to her abuse. read more

I have seen Dr Annette Sims twice, some time apart. The first time I saw her--after an assistant had run all the usual eye dilations and other tests--Dr. Sims came in with me, did not approach me, and sat down at the computer desk. She was rather abrupt, so I didn't feel I could ask many questions. Then she was gone. She couldn't have been in with me for more than 5 minutes. The second time I saw her, my experience was even worse. She rushed in, and this time I had come prepared with a list of questions. Her body language was tense and she was again abrupt in her manner. I asked her all my questions at once, which she requested me to do rather than going over them one at a time. Some of her answers satisfied my questions, but some did not and seemed rather vague. She seemed impatient to the point of almost being hostile, and it was clear she wanted to be out of there. Obviously, I will not be visiting her again. Twice was more than enough. read more

I was pretty disappointed by my visit. I originally went in for a routine glasses/contact exam and made a note that I needed the back of my eyes checked (a side effect of medication I was on). I have always had this done with every routine eye check but the receptionist told me I HAD to get a medical eye exam this time, which she said was like the routine but more in depth, and my vision coverage should cover it the same. When I went back to the room they explained that I would not be getting a new script that day as for billing purposes it had to be done on different days. I never would have made the appointment with this place then and I would have gone to a regular optometrist because now I have a $65 copay for a medical visit and no new script either. To top it all off, although the assistant was very lovely, she did 90% of my exam. Dr. Sims rushed in, barely spoke to me, looked behind my eyes and left. I didn't even have time to ask her any questions. I am not exaggerating when I say Dr. Sims was maybe in the exam room for a whole three minutes before sprinting out. I ended up canceling my follow-up appointment for a new script with Dr. Sims and I'm glad I did. read more

I have not had an exam at this provider but I did use their optical department in Eugene known as Focal Point. I had an 11 am appointment with Becky and I expected to be there for about an hour choosing new frames and lens. I showed Becky my current glasses which I don't like and a previous pair that I like but are too scratched up to use. She pulled a pair off the display and then went to find additional frames for me to look at. I ended up purchasing the first frame she handed me. Amazing! I was in and out in about half an hour and am excitedly anticipating the arrival of my new glasses. What I thought would be a costly and difficult task was a pleasant interaction with a polite, courteous and pleasant professional. Big, big shout out to Becky for doing outstanding work! read more

The contact lady was very rude to my mother who was helping me care for my kids and took them to the appointment for me. Dr. Hoffman is not very friendly, nor genuine but is known for his expertise. I'm only giving this a one star due to the office manager Opal. I love doctor Sims she deserves a rating of 5 stars hands down my children and I have been seeing her for years! However I have an appointment for my yearly appointment coming up in 3 weeks and because I haven't been seen in 2020 the office manager will not allow me to buy a pair of trial lenses so I can see until my appointment. I asked to be put on a cancellation list for a closer appointment and was told they don't have one I need to call everyday or I could see a different doctor! Absolutely not I shouldn't have to see anyone other than my doctor! I can't believe years of bring a patient I'm being told basically too bad that I can't see for 3 weeks! Horrible customer service and absolutely no empathy at all for patients. Very disappointed to say the least. Hoping they get a new office manager one that actually gives a damn about patients. I have been looking for an outstanding Ophthalmologist for many years. Like you, I have had many costly adventures and too many very costly misadventures. After reading online reviews about Dr. Annette Sims, I made an appointment for an examination. I have a very difficult eye condition to treat, or so I told. When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted by a very cheerful staff. After filling out some paperwork, I was shown to an exam room before my scheduled appointment time. The examination took about an hour. Dr. Sims and her staff were very pleasant, knowledgeable and listened to my questions, concerns and suggestions. Dr. Sims explained the results of her examination and treatment options. In one visit, I now have contact lenses that have corrected my vision.
