My rating is 3.5 stars. I'm rounding up. Durham region is upping its Hakka restaurant game. As of late, I have a love for Hakka food. After spending some time in Port Perry, I wasn't hungry enough to dine there. I was in an area with tons of restaurants. Instead, I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided that by the time that I got there, I'd be hungry. Fine Taste is located in a huge plaza. I was following a rather uncertain SUV navigating the plaza. I was truly getting hungry while trying to figure out when this person would finally pick a parking spot. I backed into a spot and walked into the restaurant. There was a podium that said to wait. I did. It was pretty busy for 3 pm. Finally, a man who came into the restaurant asked how I was. I was hungry. He asked that I sit anywhere. I automatically got water in a cup with a straw. I also got a menu. With any new Hakka restaurant, I go with chilli chicken with gravy. I ordered it. I am not kidding. Five minutes later, my dish came with a small bowl of steamed rice. I was thrilled and shocked that my food came so fast. It was as if I had blinked and my food magically appeared. I got a huge portion of chilli chicken. It marries my love for chilli chicken gravy and tons of chopped garlic. Yes! Spicy garlic chicken is my favourite dish, but it isn't consistently prepared from one place to another. The chilli chicken was delicious. It had more ginger than I would like. However, the garlic toned the ginger flavour down, so all was forgiven. I was digging the dish, especially with the onions in it The bowl of steamed rice was small for the amount of chilli chicken that I got. I am not a rice whore, but it would have been good to get half a small bowl more of it. I felt like I was rationing my rice throughout my meal. The rice was perfectly steamed. I paid using a credit card at the counter. I got a melon hard candy and a fortune cookie. I thanked everyone, who all speak Cantonese at this restaurant. The women's washroom is a single stall. It was clean and the decor was nice. I saw a lot of folks doing takeout. It is a good place for Hakka food. My dish was $13 before taxes. It's pretty good for the amount of food that you get. i'd come back here again for more yummy food. It's nice that I have another Hakka place in Ajax that I like. (431) read more

I have been going to this place since I was 15 years old, I believe it opened in that same year. From that time until now I have yet to be disappointed with the service and food. I've tried a lot of Hakka Restaurants in the GTA, and I can honestly say, this was not one of the better ones. I ordered my standard chili chicken with gravy, chicken pakoras and veggie hakka noodles. The chili chicken had some pretty tough cuts of meat, which wasn't that enjoyable, the chicken pakoras were actually pretty good. They were large, well seasoned, and spicy! Teh veggie hakka noodles were also decent, the noodle were thick and tasty, and they even added bok choy which was a nice touch. However , it was incredibly oily. The steamed rice they gave was also super small and they did not provide the standard green chilies in vinegar or red chili sauce. The service was fast and they do offer a 10% discount if you pay in cash. Highly doubtful I will return. read more

Honestly the best. Never had a bad thing from this place, and we try to pick something new every time. The place itself is not much to look at, I would describe the decor as functional and simple. Great value, large portions. Lunch specials are huuuge. I reccomend the crispy ginger beef or chicken, and the spicy pepper shrimp. I had ordered delivery through SkipTheDishes. The taste was fine for Hakka chinese, but could improve a lot. The spicyness level was very less even though I made a note to make it more spicy. I had ordered chicken Hakka chowmein, chilli chicken gravy and schezwan chicken fried rice. I would rate the rice and chilli chicken to be better than the chowmein. I dined n and ordered a crab corn soup with water. CUSTOMER SERVICE: 1/10 - No greeting. The young man was on his phone while he asked if I was picking up. - dropped the menu on the table as if I had monkeypox. Was outwardly disrespectful and unprofessional. - CSR acted as if I he didn't want to take my order. Took long to come around. - was interrupted when I asked for that soup with "okay that's it?" - asked for a bottle water after and was given a glass of tea water. I was then given a bottle of water at room temperature. Not chilled. I guess for giving correcting him. - was watched but never checked on to see if everything was alright - older man. No greeting. just mumbled the price to me. No please. No thank you. The only good gesture made was when I was given a fortune cookie. Strange thing was that they were friendly to other people that entered to store. They were actually greeted with a "hello", spoken to more politely, was told thank you when they paid. For some reason, they were very rude to me and it was my first time dining in. Because of this experience, I'll never buy from them again. Food: 8/10 - Was served hot. Nice flavour. I've been ordering their food through Uber Eats since the pandemic to support local restaurants. Very good Hakka food. Maybe the best in Durham Region. I used to go to Spicy Dragon in Pickering until I discovered Fine Taste, which I feel is better. The only better Hakka place I know is Federick Restaurant in Scarborough, which is a little out of the way for me. Highly recommend the chili chicken, crispy ginger beef, and chicken pakora. So happy I tried this place! Probably one of my favourite Hakka restaurants now. Perfect for my cravings of greasy chinese food with a good dose of spice. We ordered the crispy ginger beef (sweet), spicy pepper shrimp (savory and spicy) and manchurian fried rice (savory and spicy). Both beef and shrimp kinda lost some of their crunch by the time we got home but were still pretty tasty. I guess this is expected since the food is packed into plastic containers. I like Hakka food and was excited to try something closer to home. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. We had an eggplant dish and a beef dish. I found the meat chewy and not super appetizing, and both dishes were doused with a bland, cornstarch-thickened sauce that was not appealing. The portions were good, however we did not even want to finish the dishes. Nothing bad to say about the service, and the place was clean and tiny. But I do think they need to improve their recipes and flavours and not "dumb" it down. I've had much better meals in lots of different places in Toronto and Mississauga. I got Singaporean Chicken Noodles and Schezuan Chicken with Egg Fried Rice delivered to the nearby hospital. I have heard alot good reviews about this restaurant and I thought to give it a try, but I got highly disappointed! First of all, their service was pathetic! Their were no napkins and spoons in the bag. Second of all, THE FOOD HAD A VERY WEIRD SMELL! Specially the noodles! They were supposed to be spicy but they were extremely BLAND! I love Hakka food a lot! I've tried almost every Hakka place around Durham and Scarborough. Fine taste is one that always delivers great quality and quantity of food. My favourite dishes are the Manchurian pakoras, Szechwan fried rice, Bombay chicken and Singapore rice noodles. The flavours are so intense and delicious. Also it's located in a really handy plaza where they have a OnceUponAchild next door. This review is for the spicy garlic chicken lunch special. First they start with a bed of rice. I chose fried rice for $1 more. Then they add the meat of your choice. I got the spicy garlic chicken which they serve breaded. You can choose this option dry or with gravy. I chose gravy on the side. I tried it first without the gravy and the meat was dry and lacked any source of flavor. I then added the gravy and let it sit for a couple minutes. The chicken then got a little soggy and the rice got a little mushy. They give you a lot of food as the special comes with a spring roll but the price of the special will jump to around $10 bucks if you sub fried rice and add a drink. Overall, I would try something else but I wouldn't recommend the spicy garlic chicken! read more

I just ordered take from this place and it was horrible. first the house special fried rice with bbq chicken flavour was bland... the shrimp in the rice tasted like it was decaying... ugghh. the lemon chicken was the worst I have ever had... the batter was thick and not cooked well. the lemon sauce was awful. I have not had any bad experiences eating here ever their food is wonderful and I'm picky my favorite is the Manchurian beef with gravy and the Manchurian style rice. Their General tso is sweet with lots of sauce and their chicken pakora is yummy as well. Love eating there!!! read more
