The staff ask you what you may be looking for (not like that employee in a hip clothing store type of way where you feel like you're being clinged to, but in that WAZZUP mellow type of way that you don't mind interacting with) and are more than grateful to bring it to the counter for you as you are being rung up. Oh Johnstown, you still have a few bright spots to you.

What a fantastic place!…read more Randomly found this place on our travels and decided we had to stop in and give it a try! They had live music and a really nice selection of drinks and specials! The prices were super affordable too and there's tons of parking (and it's free)! If you want a special drink not on the menu the bartenders can mix something up for you. Everyone in the bar was friendly and welcoming, felt like a neighborhood bar! If we lived in the area we'd be here all the time! Alsoooooo.... We got super lucky and the owner of the distillery took us on a backstage tour of how they make their moonshine and the history behind the place! Highly recommended!

This review is for the Latrobe location…read more While visiting our aunt in Latrobe, we had dinner at Carmine's Pizza & Pasta and noticed some interesting bottles behind the bar. We were curious and asked the staff about them. She told us they were from Rusty Musket Distilling. She also mentioned that the distillery was located on the same street so we quickly checked the map. We found out they're only open on Fridays and Saturdays and luckily for us, it was Saturday and they were still open when we finished dinner. So we decided to stop by afterward. It's a small place with a bar counter and a couple of tables. We mainly wanted to do a tasting and pick up a bottle as a birthday gift for our aunt. We tried the moonshine and two different whiskies. I'm not usually a whisky drinker but the maple one was sweet and surprisingly enjoyable. In the end, we bought the Mountain Rita which is their margarita-flavored moonshine. It really does taste like a margarita and is dangerously good. It doesn't taste strong at all, even though it's 40% alcohol! Our aunt has lived in Latrobe for more than 30 years but had never heard of this distillery. I have a feeling she's going to love the Mountain Rita and start telling everyone about it!

I looked on their site before we went AND after this incident to make sure I didn't miss anything and absolutely no mention of no dogs allowed and we had been there multiple times throughout a couple year span where we had our dog with us no problem. google it now.. still says yes we are a very pet friendly operation! I'm not saying to boycott this place but just be aware that you can't take your dog after they advertised it being dog friendly with their "rusty Dogs" Remy Hank and Haven roaming the property.

Now, in case I haven't said it before, Johnstown is over saturated in places to purchase any type of alcoholic beverage. You would think that if this were the case that there would be competitive pricing, but that is not the case. Most places the pricing is the same for the same exact product. The one thing I didn't like about this place is that it is basically a guessing game as to the pricing of the product you want to buy. Aside from the few signs hanging from the ceiling that might tell you the pricing of a "special" they are having, you have no idea what you are paying until you reach the register and pay. The staff inside were nice and you can tell that this place gets a lot of return customers. Some were greeted when they walked in the door. I don't know about you, but I'm still debating if that is a good thing or if that is an indication that some people have a problem. Parking is a bit wonky for this establishment. You can park in front of the main entrance if you like, but to get back on the road you really have to time it perfectly with the traffic signal up the road. You will have to back out on the road and hope you don't get hit or hold up traffic. Or you could park like I did. Go to the street beside this rather small plaza and walk up to the store. Honestly this is easier, and in my personal opinion, safer. I don't remember seeing soda in here, but I kind of had a one track mind. Who needs soda when you got beer?
