Y'all they got rid of the steaks!!!!!! I'm so beyond disappointed. Honestly the whole reason I returned was for the food envy of not ordering the steak the last time I was there. So now....I have been here various times and the food before was excellent. There also appeared to be much more variety before. It doesn't appear now that the restaurant staff and menu supports the initial idea of the place so the whole speakeasy vibe and is now lost in translation. The service this time was good albeit we had another new server so it kind of scares me that on more than one occasion our server was new. It doesn't appear to be a place where they can retain staff. In addition the place was pretty empty, so you would expect The servers to be extra attentive which did not appear to be the case. The food this time was not even memorable. My husband had some salad thing which was pretty standard. But this time nothing wowed me like the first or second time since the original options were greatly reduced or removed. Really kind of sad to see the whole vision for this place to fall apart. I'd say with the menu options now and the standard of service. They are better to scale back completely and rebrand as a lunch spot. Reduce the prices and put out cheaper lunch options. It's giving "it could have been love but it's over now..." Overall would not recommend this place for dinner or couples. But maybe a cool lunch spot for working professionals or ladies who lunch. read more

I had been here before with friends and found the food to be very good forgiving the two entrees I really wanted were not available. Tonight was a bloody mess. We were seated at 7:15. It is now 9PM. No entrees. Table of 4. We ordered a couple of different beers and it was probably 10-15 minutes to get the beer. We order an appetizer (the bacon-very good) one of our guys ordered a dinner salad as a salad and we ordered our entrees. The bacon showed up maybe 15 minutes later/takes 12 minutes to make. Understood. Then about 15 minutes after the bacon my friend's salad showed up. He ate that. Now we waited a solid 45 minutes and still no entrees. They were no busy. Maybe 5 tables. 2 tables came in after us and got their food and left 30 minutes ago. Our food just finally showed up. The waitress said 2 of the cooks had left which is why it was slow. A place this size on a Thursday only need 2 cooks-I know because I cooked my way through high school and college. The food is good but this place is messed up. Twice the waitress tried to bring us some other table's food. An unmitigated disaster. Just to keep this in perspective I have never posted a review like this. 98% of the time we dine out we have a reasonably good experience. read more

I'm not typically the person who writes reviews, but this was just something that I had to get out there. Me and a date walk into the front door and find ourselves in line for a table. I did call the night before to ask if I needed a reservation and they told me they only take reservations for party's with more than 6 people. So, no reservation. There was what we thought was 4 people ahead of us. At least 2 of those people were a couple waiting for a table. Like me and my date. Five different hostesses came buy the stand asking if everyone was taken care of. So, we had been waiting for at least 15 minutes, me and my date grabbed 2 seats at the end of the bar right buy the hostesses stand. We wanted to grab a drink that took a minimum of 15 minutes. While we were at the bar I found out the 2 girls that were sitting on the tiny little bench they offer to customers for waiting these girls worked for door dash, they had orders to pick up and they were extremely late getting the food out and the girl was saying that the customer was going to be pissed. So, we are sitting there and the first couple that was before us were still standing there. I noticed two tables right against the wall buy the front door were empty and I said to the male of the first couple why aren't they putting you at that table and he couldn't figure it out either. Then like 10 minutes later they sit that couple down at 1 of the 2 empty tables after at least 45 minutes then about the time it took for the first couple to get their appetizers, they tell me and my date to have a seat at the second table. So while I was at the bar there was a guy with a girl sitting next to me and I asked them if I could look at the menu and they say sure so he hand me 2 of them and I hand one to my date and I see mine is upside down so I flipped it over and the edge of the menu hit my drink glass and it flips over spilling all over the bar. After a few minutes the bar tender comes over, and I told her what happened she asked me if I needed a towel and I said no and she asked if I wanted another drink and I said yes but she never came back. So, me and my date sit down (I put my hand down on the table and it was like grabbing ahold of fly paper the couple that sat next to us said that's normal for the place) (First Impressions) and after another 10 minutes or so we finally have a waitress I told her about the drink order that never showed at the bar and then me and my date decide to order the most expensive meal on their menu the whiskey tips 30 dollars a plate. The waitress comes back and says their out of whiskey tips. Now I want you to keep something in mind it was 7:30pm They close at 10pm. So, for 2 and a half hours of operation they will not be able to sell the most expensive meal they offer. As far as I'm concerned Someone needs to fire the Chef or teach him better ordering technics. So, me and my date left and went to the pike steakhouse and pub the food was out of this world the kids that waiting on us were awesome the only thing is the place is dated and very cramped, but the food makes up for it. Final thoughts things that I noticed it seemed like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing there was no method to the madness. The hostesses were out checking in guests then behind the bar making drinks it seems as if the John Taffer drinks, they were making were more important than the guests getting checked in. Very dissatisfied with the bartender, you might want to hire someone that cares. We went today and my draft beer was warm, I could not believe he still served it to me! When I mentioned to the waitress about my warm beer, she took my beer and told the bartender about the issue. Stopped in on a Monday evening and it wasn't too busy. I had to use the restroom right away and discovered that there wasn't any soap in the Ladies room. Upon returning to our table and placing our orders, I told the waitress about the lack of soap to wash my hands. She thanked me for telling her and she immediately took care of the situation which made me feel more comfortable eating there. Our drinks were quite tasty and our burgers were delicious. My daughter had the jalapeño burger and I chose the pepper crusted burger. Both came with bacon, as this is their thing, and buttered brioche buns. I asked for mine to be medium rare and it came just as I ordered. Besides bacon, my burger had Gouda cheese, arugula and caramelized onions. The fries were a bit disappointing because they were mostly nubs, no big whole fries, but they were tasty. Service was good. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. The ambiance was as one would expect for a speakeasy. It had an industrial vibe and was comfortable. read more

This was my first visit and at first I was unimpressed by the menu that seemed to try too hard and the unrecognizable selection of beers and cocktails. But our server Haylee saved the day. She found me a beer off the menu that made sense and took the time to explain many of the fun things the bar does like live music, and movie night. Her passion and energy really sold us on the bar. My wife and I shared the carnivore flatbread and my wife enjoyed a cold brew coffee drink. What started out as a lackluster first impression turned into a nice lunch and we decided to come back again in the future. Thank you Haylee for being awesome and patient with first time guests. Some of the worst food and service we've ever had. The menu is dated, obviously too large for the kitchen to make well, and the servers seem to be in a bad mood all the time. Our fries were mushy, the drinks, however, were excellent. But this place needs a lot of work, and it doesn't seem like the management cares at all to fix it. This was our 4th visit in the last 2 years, they do not care. Poor quality product. Will not be back after giving them multiple chances. I'm not sure who designs these menus but it's not a chef. It's someone who thinks they are, but they are not. Just don't go here, bad food, bad service. Utterly disgusted with our experience. And now that I've been told this place routinely petitions bad reviews be "taken down"? I hope this stays up. read more

Stopped here on a Saturday night in search of some food. Due to the COVID, you have to call a half hour ahead for a reservation and seating. We did that and headed that way. It looks like a cool enough place, garage doors that separate the outside and inside, as well as bar seating and patio dining. We ordered a cheese bowl for an appetizer, and for my entree I decided that wasn't enough cheese and bread - so I ordered the buffalo bleu grilled cheese. The beer cheese bowl was a good concept - but the cheese's consistency was not applicable for dipping. Either more cream cheese or milk or cream is needed for a roux consistency instead of the stringing glue we got. Also, it wasn't seasoned particularly well at all. Just was very bland. My entree was good - good flavoring on the chicken which wasn't just a boring frozen patty but an actual chicken cutlet. Really liked this- and would have liked it more if I hadn't gotten cheese and bread as a starter. Had a couple mixed drinks as well which we ok. And the price was right as well. I would come back and try other items like a flatbread or a sandwich. read more

This place was ok. I wish it was closer so I could give it another try. I know its COVID, so everything is haywire. It's nice they have a ton of protocols in place so that's appreciated. It would be nice to eat outside, but that day was pretty humid to be able to do so. The decor and style is cute and very prohibition. Very clean and they have staff sanitize and all that jazz 24/7. It's really important right now to be able to get out of town at any rate, through all the restrictions - so for me - going an hour away from home is like a vacation and kind of forgets all the bs thats going on. When I go to any place to eat, I have extra high hopes more than usual. The limited menu and less liveliness really is something i am sensitive to. I know that servers are really essential and doing their best, so its not anyone's fault. I just wish there were more options on the menu - then again, i planned poorly and we were starving and ended up at a place that has more tapa style foods where there are very few entrees and more apps and sandwiches. WHICH is totally fine, just wanted more. We shared the cheese dip with soft pretzels and the grilled cheese. THey were both okay and I saved the last half of my sandwich for lunch the next day which was great! The cheese dip was pretty bland or at least missing something, maybe more cream cheese? It kind of warms my soul to know that Johnstown has a place like this to dine at. Most of what you find are fast food joints, chain restaurants, or places with rather lackluster limited menus. To find something like this, something new and trending upward, was a nice surprise. I do spend a lot of time traveling back and forth between Pittsburgh and Johnstown. I am use to finding a place like this more in Pittsburgh. To start things off let me just say that this place was hard to find to a person that is visiting it for the first time. I have driven past this spot so many times that I thought it was just an extension the restaurant next to it. They need to get better signage for it other than the banner that they now have. I met my baby sister and her boyfriend here for a quick bite to eat one evening. We walked in and had minimum wait to get a table. Due to the nice weather we decided to get a table outside. It is nice to sit outside, but the chairs were a bit uncomfortable. It's also not the best view in Johnstown, you get a view of the ever busy Scalp Ave corridor and all the noise that comes with it. Big trucks, revving motorcycles and all the like if you know what I mean. The place is nicely designed, given off the speakeasy feel the name mentions. All the staff wear a uniform that makes it feel like you are in another time period as well. The menu is a bit small which makes for a better dining experience in my opinion. You're not flipping through several pages to find what you want. I looked over the menu many times to make sure what I wanted was going to be good. When you are seated you find yourself with the food menu and then a draft menu. It appears that the drafts rotate often and it is usually a rather good selection, so much so that they run out of a favorite of the locals. Time came to place our order and I went with the BBQ burger with fries. Due to allergies I had to opt out of the barbecue sauce because it contained maple syrup. Everything else on the burger was amazing though. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the cheese melted right into the burger patty encasing the flavors of the burger. Served on a great toasted bun, this thing is a mammoth of a meal. I had to cut it in half to make sure I didn't loose anything. This comes with a side of your choice and I went with the hand cut fries. They were delicious. I liked how they served this to me as well, on a cutting board rather than a plate. It was different and looked amazing. This meal was so big that I couldn't finish it all. All in all it was a good visit and I will probably be back as I enjoyed myself. I might want to stop by and enjoy the inside this time around as it was a bit hard to have a conversation. read more

My first time here didn't disappoint! I returned to the Johnstown area (after living there for almost 5 years) and met a friend here. Pineapple sangria was one of the drink specials and it was delicious. We ordered two types of bacon -- barbecue chipotle and millionaire-- along with the spinach dip. The dip was just okay, but the bacon was amazing. Our first batch of the barbecue was a little burnt and our waitress had the kitchen make us another order without us even asking! My friend's flatbread looked awesome and my bittersweet salad was incredible -- I nearly asked for the recipe for the walnut vinaigrette. The bread was toasted yet still pliable, a good amount of bacon with brie, arugula, fig spread and fresh pear. Totally hit the spot. Omg what a hidden gem in Johnstown. We came here for an evening of drinks and it turned into a full course meal! We started off with the Mussels, Crab dip, and the cheese wheel, all of which were exceptional. My wife ordered the flat bread pizza, my daughter a grilled cheese, and I ordered the steak tips with sprouts and potato cakes. To say I was blown away is an understatement. This food was worth the hour drive it took to get there. Top it off with outdoor dining, a modern, railroad industrial vibe, and an entire four page menu of drinks, you can't go wrong. What an interesting place! Atmosphere is very comfortable, with indoor and outdoor seating as well as seating at the bar. We visited with friends who had been here before and forewarned us about the bacon obsession. We all ordered beer, and then started with 2 different bacon appetizers. One was lime, tequila and jalapeño flavored and the other was traditional brown sugar. Both were very good, although a few of the skewers were over crispy. I had the carnivore flatbread which was excellent. There were 8-10 pieces and they were full of meats (including bacon lol) and cooked to perfection. The rest of them had the specialty grilled cheese sandwiches and enjoyed them Our server, Dominic, was excellent, which enhanced the experience. read more

Went to this place with family and friends. Not alot of seating will say that. But nice environment and decor. Good drink selection. The only thing that needs to be worked on is wait times. It shouldn't take over half hour to get apps when the restaurant isn't even half full. We ordered beer cheese bread bowl with jalopeno. The bread was burnt so couldn't taste anything but burnt taste. It was not spicy, wish It was. Got the fried mozeralla wheel, that was really good. Good wise I had the BlackBerry grilled cheese with swiss, jalopeno, and bacon. It was very nice worst part was it was too sweet. Everything here tastes like maple or bourbon. They need to work on expanding the flavors. I would try this place again though, nice atmosphere but I would work on service and flavors. read more

We got several flyers in the mail so we decided to try it out. It was 5:30 PM when we got there. The place was packed. A couple was waiting ahead of us and another with reservations was seated immediately. The host took our names, we were right after the seated couple. While we waited, over a dozen people finished their meals and left. The place was understaffed and the host disappeared for several minutes at a time to bus tables. After 15 minutes the couple ahead of us was seated. Another couple with 6 pm reservations was seated. I asked the host about us and was told "there were several unexpected tables" and the wait would be another 20 minutes for the second time. He then took my name again! He added us third behind the two other groups that had come in after us. We left. Tl;dr. Understaffed, incompetent host. Ran a bunch of flyers and weren't able to support the customers they attracted. read more

The food was ok. I expected more from them. The salad greens were still connected in the spring mix. When the rest of the Mediterranean Salad was chopped, it was difficult to eat without a sharp knife. The chicken on the salad was wonderful, as was the stingy amount of dressing. The service was less than ok. I will allow that our server was a trainee, but his trainer did not back him up. Drink orders were 45 minutes to arrive ( after several reminders). The meals took over an hour and the place was not that busy. The bills arrived and mine had several errors. The wrong price was listed for my salad ($6 more than the menu price) and a soft drink was added that I did not order. My revised bill had the soft drink removed but the salad still listed $6 too high. Then the $6 was credited on the bill. Too bad the 20% tip was pre calculated on the higher amount. The music was beyond awful. It was way too loud. And I like loud music. Maybe it would have been better if the singer could sing. We prayed that he would stop. My group could only identify two songs. Off key is being polite. Usually we hang around after dinner but we practically ran out of there. Now to your ladies room. The floor was sticky and the edges were thick with grey debris. I know that it was supposed to be rustic, but the rusted and dirty galvanized sink made me want to throw up. It's going to be a long time (if ever) we go back there. read more

Just want to start off by saying I wanted to absolutely love this place and give it a 5/5, but after my somewhat disappointing first experience there, I just can't. I met some friends here for dinner recently, and I was so excited to give this place a try. We ordered the Scottish eggs, fried cheese, and fried teriyaki/sweet bacon for appetizers. The appetizers were out of this world amazing. I could've eaten the fried cheese as a meal. Plus, the homemade ranch it was served with was delish! Before I get into our entrees, I just want to briefly give a shoutout to the EXCELLENT waiter we had. He told us all about the menu, made recommendations and was so friendly! He absolutely made the experience here worthwhile. Our visit was perfect, until our entrees came out, after a surprisingly long wait. I had ordered a burger done medium well with a side of sweet potato fries. My burger came out and I was medium rare. I just can't bring myself to eat meat that is that under cooked and not even warm. I informed our waiter and he was very apologetic. They made me another burger that took another 20 minutes to come out. By the time my burger came out, my friends were finished and ready to leave. The burger itself was good, but I wish it had been cooked medium well the first time. My fiance and I split our share of the bill and just for two burgers and drinks our bill was over $50.00 (not including appetizers), so they are quite expensive. read more

We came across tap 814 as we were heading back to Pittsburgh and I'm so glad we did because the food and service was great! They have a menu with many unique options to choose from. We started with their beer cheese bread which was amazing. I then ordered a burger with sweet potato fries for myself. The fries were really good and the burger was as well. Portions are really big and filling. Some other friends ordered the half dozen jumbo wings which were huge and flatbreads which they also enjoyed. We really thought everything tasted good and was different from most restaurants. I ordered a blueberry sangria drink which was also very tasty. Our waitress was very nice and helpful when deciding what to order. Definitely recommend stopping here and would be back again. read more
