    Pizza logs

Had an evening meal here on a recent family getaway ski trip. They must have been understaffed the night we were there, because two servers (one of them the bartendress) were covering the entire space and the timing of meals took much longer than you'd might expect. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays, and the "fell" was cozy and warm. My girls commented that they thought the place ought to be decorated year-round like this, as it gave off such a comfortable feeling. Finnerty's has a decent selection of beers, the Rohrbach vanilla porter which we chose was creamy and smooth with the slightest hint of vanilla bean. We ordered an appetizer to share around the table and everyone chose their own entree. The pizza logs appetizer was underwhelming. Five rolled-up pepperoni slices wrapped around mozarella cheese and deep fried. The pepperoni was barely detectable. The dish came with a side of marinara sauce which was served cold...would have been much better had the sauce been warm. The FTR house burger was overcooked (per my medium-rare ask), but still turned out fairly tasty. The burger was a standard cheeseburger, nothing more nothing less. The fries on the side were average but plentiful. My wife and girls all seemed to feel similarly about their dishes...decent enough but nothing special. For the money, there are other / better options in town but we may yet give them another try on some other trip.

Came here for a wedding reception. The service was really great. Everyone was super friendly. The buffet style meal was good. My personal favorite was the roast beef from the carving station. It was super tender! The table was filling up with dirty plates and glasses. The waitress came over and asked to take the glasses because they were running low but left the rest of the plates and dirty dishes. One of my wine glasses had many lip stains all over it but the bartender was very apologetic and was pleased when I just asked for plastic. My brother in law is vegan so they made him a special meal. They came over to ask if he was enjoying it. Overall very friendly staff and good food!

Huge sports bar located next to Wingate by Windham hotel. It's right within walking distance of the center of Ellicottville. It's a nice place to go to if you are looking for something besides EBC beers. They almost always have Hamburg on tap. I've been here a few times and always enjoyed myself and their food is delicious. Lots of places to sit including big or small tables and a bar. During COVID they setup social distancing and followed all guidelines from what I could see. Sad to see the dart boards/pool/jukebox all turned off but I understand and can't wait till this is over to enjoy those amenities again. My favorite part of the menu is how many Reuben type options are available. Open Reuben, Closed Reuben, Reuben fries, and my favorite - REUBEN TOTS! So yum! Bartender was attentive, provided friendly conversation and drink suggestions. One of my favorite late-night atmospheres in Ellicottville!

Fantastic food and service. Highly recommend. We stayed at the hotel across the street, so great location. Nice atmosphere. Will go back when we're in town for sure

Great place! Stumbled upon it during Fall Fest. Lots of seating and right on the main stretch. Food is pub style but a lot of gf options and the menu is clearly labeled. All the wait staff are very knowledgeable about the gluten free menu options and all food comes out with a separate label if it is gluten free. Definitely worth checking out.

Stopped by on a day trip while we were staying at Allegany State Park. Very excited to see so many gluten free options as my wife has celiac disease. I had the mild wings and they were delicious. My wife had their gf pizza and loved it. Although it was a thin crust the sauce and cheese were very good. We also ordered fries which were good but very salty. We finished off with the brownie sundae which was delicious but small. The staff was okay. Our waitress was nice but didn't check on us much. The atmosphere is nice and we could definitely see watching a Bills game here one day, we enjoyed the chance to play a round of pool. Overall a good experience.

Came in for a drink on a Saturday night after dinner in the village. There were a few of us celebrating a friend's birthday. Bar was not very busy, but still had some life to it. I liked the overall environment and the other patrons in the bar were friendly (taking a group photo for us). My husband ordered a seven & seven for me (pretty standard) bartender said they didn't have that so he called me over and I browsed other liquor options when he offered crown instead, I don't like crown so I declined to which he rudely told me there was no difference between seagrams and crown - then said that he "can't deal with me" motioning to the other bartender and said she'd take my order... he was visibly drunk (it was 9:45pm)- slurring at us, and aggressive with not helping me. Because of this, I got a beer and we left after 1 round (though would have spent much more money there) Based on the service I will not go back knowing he is tending bar - then again when you are that wasted half way into your shift, chances are your days are numbered...

My girlfriend and I decided to give this place a try. I'd like to give it 3.5 stars. The food itself was delicious. The portions are fair and the flavors and presentation is decent. However, the service was subpar to say the least. We were never asked how everything was, if we needed anything, several items were forgotten. I sat with an empty beer for at least half my meal. Also, they are definitely overpriced what you get. My burger and fries were 17 dollars alone. That seems a bit disproportionate, but, I digress.

My friend and I stopped into the restaurant after Another place in Ellicottville had a two hour wait. Turns out that this was an excellent move because this place was great. We were seated right away. It did take a few minutes for a server to come take our order but things seemed pretty hectic there at the time. Outside of that little wait the beer menu was good and also the food came out pretty quickly and was good. We shared a few wings and they were crisp and the sauce was just they way that I like it. I also ordered a chicken finder sub and it was good. There was a ton of food and I had to take half of it home but the prices were fair and I enjoyed the experience.

Possibly the best French Toast I've ever had. It's egg battered which is a plus. They also give you plenty of syrup and butter. I got the Gin Mill Brunch Burger because I was craving some burgers, but I didn't know they had a separate breakfast menu, so I went with the brunch burger, which sounded good. It's a normal burger but with egg and instead of using regular burger buns, they use a bagel. It also comes with diced hash browns which were very flavorful. As much as I love burgers, this one just wasn't as good as I hoped. Mainly because of the bagel, which was harder than your typical burger bun. The burger was also lacing some flavor. Our server was also very nice and explained everything to us. The interior is also very nice and has a historic atmosphere with lots of taxidermy.

Very good beer menu, despite there being no Scotch ale. Boo! One friend was very happy to find Sam's Cherry Wheat among the selections. I made do with a Prosecco from their decent wine list. I wish I'd remembered that I wasn't all that thrilled with the crab cake at Public House on the Lake. Not that it's bad. Just not the "jumbo lumps" I prefer in a crab cake. Cajun aioli - yum. The friend that ordered the steak sandwich cooked medium received it well done, but said it tasted good. And she's really picky about her beef. Stinger sandwich and chicken fingers were pronounced fine. French fries were not. Shoestring isn't my favorite cut, but these were limp and greasy. Wet potatoes? Oil not hot enough? French fries shouldn't be this hard to get right. Minor complaints: no blueberries in the EBC blueberry wheat. For shame. You're right next door to its birthplace! And serving a souffle cup with the lid still on is just a wee bit tacky. YES, I'm picky. And proud of it.

I went here today with my kids and some friends and their kids (ages 6 to 8 months). It being a Sunday at 1ish, we figured we'd miss the lunch rush and be able to cruise in and out. Somewhat surprisingly, it was pretty much full (which isn't a bad thing), but we got lucky and were able to sit within about 10 minutes. The place is quite fun with walled-off bar and table areas that adjoin at the front with an open space and the small music stage. The decor was cool with rough cut wood everywhere and TVs playing the Olympics (go US curling team!). And even though it was really busy, it wasn't all that loud given the number of people. Once we got seated though is where things started going off the rails a bit. It took a little bit for our server to come see us and then even more time to take our orders. The whole time she seemed either disinterested or distracted and certainly in a rush. I also got that same kind of vibe from the other servers I saw bouncing around too. In any event, we got our orders in and then it took them quite a while to come out as well even though we didn't get anything really special - pot roast poutine and side salad for me, cheeseburger and fries for my son, pizza with black olives for my daughter, and then our friends got chicken fingers and fries and I think maybe another cheeseburger or something. All in all, I think we ended up being there around an hour and a half through no fault of our own. For a beverage, I ordered myself an espresso martini. Now, mind you when I asked for a cocktail menu, they had none. They also "only" had 3 or 4 kinds of gin, to which our server told us that's not actually what it's called the "Gin" Mill for (not sure if that was sarcasm or serious). Either way, not really what I was expecting but oh well. It is a pub after all. On the flip side of that, I saw what looked like some really excellent looking cocktails being served up at the bar. Seems like a missed opportunity to me. On the food side, my side salad was pretty basic - lettuce, green pepper, tomato, and onion. I asked for balsamic and ended up getting two ranch. Oh well, I still like ranch. The pot roast poutine was absolutely epic though. Is it trying to actively kill me? Of course it is with all that fatty meat, greasy fries, and gravy. Aren't I allowed to splurge for the sake of you readers out there though? The roast was melt in your mouth tender and some big chunks of it to boot. I brought about 3/4 home and it made excellent leftovers for dinner too! The pizza was solid with a good cheese to sauce ratio, a nice, fluffy crust, and good overall taste and texture. I got a bite of my son's (plain) cheeseburger and it was also quite good with quality-looking bun and some really nice sear marks on the burger. The fries weren't my favorite with the sort of weird crunchy texture-style that like a Burger King has, but that's really just my personal preference. At around 230 is when the band started playing, which was an older couple playing some country tunes. My kids decided to go out and dance for a couple minutes, which the musicians seemed to get a kick out of. It was tough to make out the words she was singing, but it was a fun vibe regardless and it wasn't obnoxiously loud either. All in all (and cheating looking at some of the other reviews), it seems like this place has some front-of-house issues that need addressing but their food and drink are pretty solid. Since there's not a ton of food choices in town, I'd consider going again, but with EBC and others in walking distance, I guess there's not really any compelling reason that I should when I only make it down this way a couple times a year.
