I had a really bad experience here and will not recommend or support going back to this business. I went in to get ice cream and waited in line and paid at the cashier and was told to wait again behind customers that have not paid yet. There were two workers and the worker who was working at the ice cream section was ignoring me and not even acknowledging that I was there. After too long the other worker noticed what was going on and she came and took my order. The whole experience took 20 minutes. It is very unfortunate how one workers attitude ruins the whole experience. This was the second time visiting the cafe and because the first experience was good with a friendly worker. Cafe with great food, great ambiance but poor service is unfortunate. read more

Coffee was good! Service was a bit odd. Was completely ignored by the first staff member who looked up at me, walked away and then turned the light off in the pastry fridge. There was no one else in front of me. Luckily another staff member came to help me. I went in about 30 mins to closing to grab a coffee to go so maybe they were closing up. However, it would have been nice to be acknowledged even if it was to tell me they were closing and couldn't serve me. The cafe itself looks super nice and has a lot of seating. A fairly new gelato place, with an open and bright space. There was only one person working at the time, but he was friendly and efficient. A regular, which is two flavours is $6.50 and a large is $7.50. It's a bit pricey for gelato, but after sampling a few flavours, I realized it was quite good. There was a good variety of fruit flavours to Nutella and nutty flavours. The flavours were strong and not overly sweet. The two I went for was pistachio and the coffee. The texture was smooth, but not super creamy. I sampled my friend's passion fruit and it was very tart. It was a refreshing flavour and something I'd consider getting next time. They also have biscotti and other desserts too in the display cases in the back. I'd definitely recommend trying out this place if you're in the area. read more

Fior di Latte is somewhat of a new addition to Burnaby Heights. It is a small pastry shop that offers gelato and honey. We were really craving soft and spongy chocolate cake but it was late and we had to look for an open cake shop around the Heights and we got lucky enough that Fior di Latte closes late! We got the 2 sliced cakes of what was left. They've got Mango Cake and Dark Chocolate with Raspberry. Both were so delicious and very filling. The Dark Chocolate slice was really sweet with a sour taste. I really enjoyed it but the flavour was a little too intense for me. I couldn't finish the whole slice. The Mango Cake was better for my liking. There are a few sit-down tables but this is more of a grab and go situation, in my opinion. I will come back to try their gelato! read more

A new place to get some great pastries, and something different and in the Heights area! A charming little place that, even with Covid-19 happening, has a distinct flare when entering. I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit to this new place that goes by the name of FDL but the full name is Fior di Latte (which on their website means - cream of the crop). A trendy name, luckily that is not all for this place. I was welcomed by some very friendly people, including the chef, and was introduced to many of their delightful pastries, let us get to the beginning of my visit. Located in Burnaby, on Hastings, the best way to describe this is if you know where the firehall is, it is close, but you can miss it as I drove by it once before looping around as luckily I had their address. Once you are at the doorway, it is a beautiful little space, that currently without furniture (due to social distancing) still is very welcoming. With a huge counter up front, and the first thing you will have walked by is the glass refrigerator with the macarons and gelato, which were not my mission on this visit, as I was strictly going for the pastries in the back. There is quite an assortment of delights, ranging from sweets to savory's so whatever your tastebuds are feeling at the moment there will be something for you here, unless it is sold out.. then you are out of luck. For the sweets, I saw fresh fruit danish's, peach gallet's, almond croissant's, just to name a few, and I was treated by the chef to a spoonful of the almond custard filling for the gallet, very smooth, a nice sweetness that is not overpowering, something I will come and take home (or hopefully eat in when the restrictions are eased up) so I will be back. Now to the stuff I did end up buying..... They introduced me to something new that I have not seen at other cafe's, their assortment of pita's, from their best seller: spinach and cheese, zucchini, chicken (which was not there on this day), pizza, and meat. I ended up taking the meat, which they warmed up, and it reminded me of a piroshky (if you have been to Pike Market in Seattle, you will know what I am talking about), it may look small, and pocket size, but it definitely filled my stomach up, and I couldn't stop taking another bite. I also had their bacon and cheese roll, and if you like buttered treats, this one was nice as you can pick the type of cheese that goes on top, then it is melted on... another filling and tasty treat, bring your stomach. Each pastry has its distinctive bite, and they are made here. I also took home one of their lepinja bread, a nice flatbread, that oddly enough I had a beef chuck stew that it went very well with, the taste of this bread was like a Portugese roll, great for scooping up the sauce off the plate too. I look forward to trying their coffee and other treats on my next visit. They are doing their part in opening a business in this crazy time and also still promoting social distancing and keeping big smiles on their faces and a positive outlook. Looking forward in the future also to see this place running with normal chairs and tables and being able to enjoy their beautiful premises, but until then, come on in, say hi, and take a new treat out in a new place. read more

**COVID-19 SECOND WAVE** Located across Anton's and Fortuna Bakery is this little cafe (translates to Cream of the Crop) that sells a plethora of baked goods, gelato, sandwiches, and of course, espresso based drinks. The seating is spaced out due to the pandemic, but basically seating available for 5 groups of couples. The front is South facing so there's a lot of natural sunlight. The service was super warm and kind - barista/cashier asked us questions to make sure she customized the drinks to our liking (wet/dry, powder dusting, level of sweetness). We ordered a medium (12 oz) cappuccino ($4.45) and a medium Spanish latte - condense milk, espresso and foam ($5.00). The cappuccino is a bit less concentrated in flavour than I would like. The Spanish latte is not overtly sweet and rich in cream. We didn't try their sweet/savoury food, but we noticed certain baked goods are sold out early (but one can call in the morning and they will reserve it for you). Overall: we will likely come back again to try their food. read more

I am super happy that this amazing bakery opened up in Burnaby Heights... I am a huge pastry lover! I first checked out FiorDiLatte Cafe on Thursday (April 30).. mainly for the danishes. At the time I arrived, they weren't ready yet but it was easy to choose other pastries cause they all looked so good. I got sold on the Apple Galette, which was sooooo good (wishing I had added some ice cream to it)! My eyes also feasted on the Bacon and Cheese Roll, in which they melted cheese on top.. yum! And while I was waiting, they threw in a Cherry Tart, which was delicious! Because I didn't get the danishes on my first visit, I came back two days later (Saturday, May 1). They were still in prep mode when I arrived, so I enjoyed a latte while I waited. I got the first three danishes of the day: strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry. It doesn't get any fresher than that! It was well worth the wait.. they were AH-MAY-ZING! They were the perfect flakiness, crispiness, butteriness.. and the fruits and filling were fresh and sweet. They tasted just as good the next morning, too. Gonna have to snag more than 3 next time! read more

Recently, this gelato shop opened in the area. We made it a point to ventured out to try this shop after dinner. There was a large selection of flavours to choose from. Between the regular ($6.50) and large size ($7.50), the large size seemed to be a better value. We picked mango, pineapple and coconut. I can taste the quality and it was definitely authentic Italian style gelato with the paste like texture. My only complaint was the person serving behind the counter wore the same pair of gloves to collect cash payment and complete the ice cream order during the whole time I was in the shop. Their cones do not have a paper wrapper and the staff member was using the same gloves he touched cash to grab the cones and gelato scoops. Hence, this place lost a start for contamination between cash and food products. Lastly, there is a sign that they accept only cash at this time. Free street parking at front of store. read more

The gelato here is amazing. I always opt for the large because it is only a dollar more. The interior is bright and lit up and the staff are friendly. They do allow you to sample and it does make it hard to decide which gelato. I like the one with brandy in it, but the Nutella one is excellent as well. Parking is free on the street and there is also a free parking lot on the side streets behind the fire hall and down the block. It's a tricky layout, which it doesn't have a proper 2m physical distancing, but you can just have it grab and go easily. I ordered a fruit danish and latte, my husband ordered a double chocolate biscotti and americano. Not only the fruit danish is pretty to look at, it's fresh and crunchy with layered phyllo. It's not grossly doused with insanely sweet custard. Every bite is perfection! Latte was amazing as well, a really good balance of milk and espresso, which you can taste both. My husband said his biscotti is very chocolatey and buttery. Americano is very decent as well. I will be back for some more!!! read more

I called inquiring about order a cake over a week in advance and was told that would be fine as they only need two days and quote $40. The person on the phone told me they were busy and took down my info and said they would call me back to confirm the o. No one called me back. Since the person advised they were busy, I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were just overwhelmed and forgot. So I called back a few days later, and inquired again about ordering a cake. A different person answered the phone and now quoted $44 for the same cake... they again and took my info and said they would need to confirm with the pastry chef and would call me back. No one called me back again. No excuses for not getting a call back a second time. Extremely disappointing customer service. read more
