I stayed at a hotel nearby while passing through Springfield, MO. I needed a solid dinner after subsisting on coffee, donut holes and a not-so-great breakfast burrito from Allsup gas station. I found Fire & Ice Restaurant & Bar on Yelp! and decided to give it a try. Jordan seated me and was also my waiter. He was professional and attentive, which was much appreciated. They have a limited menu, but the Mediterranean Grilled Chicken Pasta seemed like a good option. Boy was I RIGHT! This was a very flavorful and somewhat healthy dish that hit the spot. The location is a bit odd. It's located in a hotel that's in an area with a guarded gate. The restaurant is right next to an outdoor pool, with lots of glass. Some guy in just his swimsuit was peering through the glass door near my table, which was a bit awkward. Also there was a large crowd right behind me that was very loud, which also was not ideal. The food here at Fire & Ice has surprised me this time around. I had the Lamb Chips and they were the delicious. Not a big fan of the rice underneath, but with a tinch of doctoring it wasn't bad. Spent several days in the hotel where "Fire & Ice" is housed, as this is a hotel restaurant/pub , , the food was good and the bar prices, a bit pricy. Actually, as I half-step on this, considering all the hotels I stayed at for military veteran conventions, this was probably one of the BEST. Shout out to the bartender we had all week "Ariema " (?), she did an outstanding job. Shout to house keeper "Stacy", for outstanding duties. And last to Chef "Frank" (?), pretty certain I have his name incorrect, however he and his breakfast staff kept a large bunch of Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Veterans and spouses well feed watch morning. Calamari was perfectly prepared, not chewy at all. The dipping sauce is very good with a hint of heat. I had the lamb with balsamic reduction and mashed sweet potatoes. It was very good. I decided to try the Chicken Schnitzel, and I was pleasantly surprised by the portion--the chicken was nice and plump rather than flattened like a typical schnitzel, and the coating was delicious. Such a cool ambience! We ordered the gyoza (amazing!), the fried spinach (absolutely awful, it's completely flavorless), the chicken Caesar wrap (pretty dry), and the pork Mac and cheese (pretty good!). If we ever came back, I'd get the gyoza again. The bar is very cool! read more

The entries are acceptable, but the quality of this establishment has deteriorated over the last several months. Good example are the accompaniments have changed from fresh prepared to steam table or fryer fare (mashed, rice, fries, onion rings, etc.). Used to be pan roasted Brussel sprouts, roasted red potatoes etc. what about a baker? Goes well with a steak. Easy on the kitchen, but affects the quality. Drinks were good. We did not eat inside, we got food and drinks to go a couple times while staying at this resort and took it to eat by the pool. Which is a nice plus, but the inside was dim lighting and had a cool ice bar. Basic booths. Cannot comment on service as I got it to go but the bartender who gave me the order was friendly. The food on average was about 4 stars. The spinach artichoke dip was very oily which made the oil layer sit on top when taking it to go. Not very good. However the fried dumplings were prob some of the best I had, very flavorful and cooked well, crispy outside. Everyone except myself had a burger but they all seemed to enjoy it. Generous portions. Smallish crowd but tables require sitting 3-4ft away from neighbors = makes eavesdropping unavoidable. We had our food catered for our parents 60th anniversary party. Ever things went smoothly due to hosting the party at the Oasis convention center. The food was delicious with great presentation. Mother's Day Brunch was a complete let down!!!! Nothing was even warm, the food not at all up to par like I expected it to be. I went in for dinner with my young son. He had the chicken nuggets and fruit cup and I had the filet. The filet itself was fine. Cooked to the right temperature, which is good and seasoned well enough. There was supposed to be a compound butter on top, but I don't think it made it. The Brussels sprouts that came with the dish were hammered. So mushy even the bacon in the dish squished. Truly horrible. The kids meal was sort of the problem though. I mean, the nugget itself was the usual Sysco fare, dropped in the fryer and served up. However, the fruit cup was hilarious. There were, I am including a pic lest you think I jest, maraschino cherries as one of the fruits. A couple of the strawberries were rotten. The oranges looked like they had been cut maybe at the beginning of the day, maybe yesterday. When I pointed this to the server, she was adamant the fruit was cut to order, though she agreed maraschino cherries were weird to include. Look, I get that this was half an hour to close, and the kitchen was maybe cutting some corners. Fine! But she could have at least not argued about the product. Also, for Sysco chicken that takes 5 minutes to deep fry, the wait was over 30 minutes. I also understand this isn't a family restaurant, so if you are visiting the attached hotel with your family, I think you're better off leaving the hotel. read more
