I met a childhood friend here for lunch, she lives in the area and I was driving through in my way home from Branson. I love when locals tell you about a really good restaurant. We love Mexican food and this one did not disappoint! Chips and salsa were good, it's decorated so cute for Christmas, the staff was great and our meals were pretty delicious. Though very busy and with a full parking lot they were able to seat a party of three with no wait. Queso and chips were yummy and the Original Taco Salads were delicious! Good Margaritas as well. Visited on a Friday night and was surprised by the live singing which was beautiful but got a little loud as the night went on. I had tacos a La cart and a watermelon marg. I didn't enjoy the marg it didn't taste like watermelon but the shrimp and the steak tacos were good. I didn't enjoy the chips and salsa but the queso was delicious and probably my fav thing here. This used to be our favorite restaurant in Springfield before they moved locations. They have gone down hill and it's absolutely horrible. After a grueling 11 hours drive we found ourselves searching for dinner at 8:45pm on a Sunday night. Luckily Jose's was 4 minutes from the hotel and was accommodating to our to go order. The employee that took my order was patient, kind, and quick! I had the entire order and was back in my hotel room at 9pm. We ordered the horchata which was homemade. It was so creamy and had a nice vanilla flavor, we both would highly recommend trying it. Then we shared an order of chicken fajitas which were fantastic. We hate green peppers and they allowed us to substitute jalapeño for the green giving it a great spice. And the accoutrements were on point, their beans and rice were great and loved their salsa. The fajitas come with three corn tortillas, there is plenty so I would recommend getting a second portion (if Jose's allows, we did not ask) and split, you will both be well fed. If we lived around here we would go again but for us it was a great ending to our first day of travel! read more

Killer drinks-Coco Loco, Long Island ice tea, Margarita, and GIANT Miller light were all great. But the food was outta this world. Okay, so being from South Texas, my standards for Mexican food are pretty high. I know that but I do take into account where I am when I'm trying non-local food. Unfortunately, I can't rate this place very highly. The Bloody Mary I got was not very good at all. Whatever Bloody Mary mix they used was not good. I basically had to just drink it to get it down because it's a party foul to waste liquor right? My friends drink was also not good. She got the mojito but it basically was a vodka with sprite. No mint to be seen. So, definitely skip the cocktails and just order something super simple like a vodka soda. Then there's the food. Not the worst but definitely not the best. I'm surprised by how busy the restaurant was based on my experience. Maybe there's not a lot of good alternative options in the area. Definitely looks and feels like an authentic Mexican restaurant and service was not bad but I can't recommend it. read more

Outstanding service and beautiful decor cannot overcome subpar food. First the pluses: great salsa, chips and tortillas and the shrimp in the fajita. I asked the server which was the best and she recommended the seafood variation (Acapulco?). Sadly, l opted for the Texan, with beef and shrimp wo chicken. Hubby had the traditional beef. In all my years of eating TexMex in both California and Texas, I have never had worse beef in fajitas- cut to shoestring size and cooked well done, if not burnt, tough as leather shoestrings and swimming in greasy onions and soggy bell peppers. Yuck! Inedible. The server didn't notice that I left the plate untouched- except for the shrimp, which was perfectly prepared. Otherwise I would have been happy to have provided contemporaneous complements, and suggestions. There has to better and much more authentic Mexican food in Springfield. Food was less in portion than several prior visits. Ordered one dish of shrimp and scallops, received only two (2) scallops on the dish. Secondly, I seem to recall that, at the least, there used to be discounts for seniors and military veterans. I assume law enforcement, firefighters and first responders as well. This was the second time eating at Jose Locos within the last two weeks with my lady. We enjoyed it so much the first time we came back again for date night. This restaurant checks all three boxes- Delicious food, fast & friendly service, and the decor/atmosphere is authentic. Oh, as a bonus, the prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. Their chips, salsa & Queso are fantastic and fresh. I has their Al Pastor street taco and those were very tasty as well. I'm a big eater so I also ate the enchilada supreme-one chicken, one beef, one bean & one cheese enchilada with red sauce. All were packed with wonderful flavor and cooked to perfection. My lady had the loco ribeye with mushrooms and cheese sauce which she absolutely loved. We highly recommend this Mexican restaurant and will be coming back anytime we are craving Mexican cuisine. read more

A personal dislike is the smell of the cleaner that is used in the bathrooms and then it was being used close to our table near the back of the restaurant. It's very strong and overwhelming. I hope that they will change this because it is very off putting when you're eating.
