Well, haha, it's cheaper than a water taxi. They were super efficient this year and it was a pleasure to ride with them. They only take cash at the window but seriously it is just too easy to use the app so why wait in line for tickets. You can carry on your small luggage to a seat or just give it to them to hold for the ride, I think for a small fee. I suggest going to the website for carry on rules. Mind the weather when choosing to ride above or inside. This ride could not be easier. read more

Been using the FI Ferries since the early 1970's. About 50 years now. Cant say anything negative about the ferry service. However I attempted to buy a shirt through their online apparel store and it was a lesson in awful customer service. Waited two months to not get anything and they just refunded my money with no explanation. I had sent 4 emails during the second month of waiting inquiring to the status of my order and they never bothered to respond to any of them. It's a shame because I have been a customer since I was a little kid and the ferry will always hold a special place in my heart but they should shut down the online store if they can't manage it properly. read more

Cash ONLY service that takes you to and from fire island. Ferries take about a half hour to get where you need to be. Staff is accommodating. NO MORE 1 am FERRY!! If you buy a 40 pass (20 round trip) booklet you can pay with credit card. read more

Awful. Went today trying to get to seaview. Took a ferry which the crew told me was going there. Didn't stop there brought us all the way back to the mainland. Wouldn't stop and let us off. There are over a dozen passengers stuck like us with the same problem. The captain and his crew were all belligerent. I was no better as my day just got trashed. This operation sucks. Update: Lou who is from management at the ferry apologized, refunded our money and routed a ferry to take us directly to seaview with a full refund and sincere regret. Yeah. That works. Upgraded to 2 stars. Still upset at the lack of organization. read more

Fire Island Ferries - Two hours later but finally made it! - Ferries Near Me - Ocean Beach, New York

Took the ferry from Bay Shore to Ocean Bay Park with Jen S. and back after our vacation. The staff helped us put the stuff on the boat and were very friendly. We went up top (I got sunburn on the way back because I was foolish). A half hour trip with one stop on the way there. The staff called ahead to have the car ready when we got back. Very helpful. It's a nice half hour trip if the weather is good. Cash is king. read more

Base level, the ferry is great. Das boot is almost always on time, has ample staff to handle baggage and tickets, and, really, it's the only public way to get to most of Fire Island (yes, you can take a water taxi or technically hike it from Field 5). The young staff is friendly and will take care of your baggage, big or small, but be cool and tip em! It IS in need of several upgrades though... * The Schedule - For real, no one knows how to read this thing. There's no official app (there are a few bootleg ones) and it changes often, so there needs to be a better way to communicate this to customers. * The Signs - Can we go digital already? The bootleg plastic signs just aren't cutting it. Buy an LED, put the stops on it and the time the ferry leaves. Maybe times of upcoming ferries on a electronic board? It would save SO MUCH confusion from noobs and vets alike. * The Tickets - Minus season ticket books, you can only use cash to pay for tickets. I think we all know why this is still happening at this point. Fix it. Get Square. I'm not even asking for a digital ticket machine (yet), just a quick way to swipe when you're running late and don't have time to hit the cash machine. * Coordinate with David's Taxi - The LIRR is constantly 3-5 minutes late and if you hit a light, it could take a few minutes to get from the LIRR to the ferry terminal. If the ferry leaves at 12:45 and the bus is due to arrive at 12:44, can you hang out for 60 extra seconds to let the 20 people on the boat? The amount of times people are stuck at the terminal for an hour bc of this is totally embarrassing (but great for the clam bar next door, hint hint). All in all, like I said, it works and isn't the worst for getting to the land of No. But when your transportation service is now WAY behind even the LIRR in terms of technology, you're just not trying... at all. read more

It's the only way to get to Fire Island unless you have your own boat or a permit to drive, so they got the market cornered. They provide a good service and I can't say anything negative. Went to Fire Island twice this summer. The only way to get there during the summer is to take the ferry since they don't allow driving during the busy season. The ferry is 9 dollars each way. A little expensive in my opinion but then again gas prices are through the roof. During the day time it is really nice to sit on the top deck. There is a nice breeze and you can enjoy looking at all the expensive houses along the water that you wish you could afford. Don't forget sunglasses and sun screen. I forgot both so the sun was glaring in my eyes and I got burned because it was clear blue skies. If you sit on the lower deck be careful of the open windows. If the water is rough, you will get splashed with water. If you get sea sick this boat is not for you. Otherwise enjoy! It is a nice calming experience especially in the summer. read more

Fast service to and from Fire Island - We went to Oceanside. The top really heats up so if you like it hot ride the top during the day. The cool night breeze is very refreshing on the way back, but remember If you ride the top expect to get wet because you will. read more

The ferry definitely runs "on time" so if that all that is important then you will be ok. No one who works for this company is friendly. The person selling the tickets, the person taking the ticket or the deckhands. For those coming from out of town and know very little about taking the ferry, don't expect friendliness. Cash only! Although there is an ATM nearby. No bathrooms on the ferry. The ferry will not wait for you if you are in the bathroom on the waiting deck (even for 30 seconds). I found this out the hard way and my son was on the boat that left Without me. An hour later, I was back. Also it is $19 roundtrip. Unless you are staying on the island, I wouldn't recommend the costly roundtrip event just to try a restaurant or two. read more

the boat ride itself is fine. but i have never experience such a $hitty customer service ever during my many travels! the a$$hole that took my boat ticket actually took TWO tickets instead of the one to ride. the second one was to visit the Lighthouse, as i have bought a gateway package with different tickets. honest mistake. if it wasn't that when i went to ask for MY ticket back (the one for the lighthouse, which did not belong to them, and i had paid for!) all the three people i spoke to were accusing me of actually having the fault of this mess. they started claiming i GAVE the ticket to them (why would I ever do that? and why would you let me ride on your boat if i gave you a ticket for something else!?!?). The basically treated me like $hit, told me it was MY fault, and called it a day. I even asked the name of the a$$hole that took my ticket, supposedly John Malone, which if you ask me it doesn't even sound like a real name! Overall a disgrace of customer service, and a collection of truly $hitty people on my boat ride! [unlike the AMAZING PEOPLE at the Lighthouse that let me climb it even without tkt after telling the story!] read more
