Rarely, would you find a place that can pull off being a brunch/lunch place during the mornings and afternoons and a club and lounge by night. On a Saturday morning where I was looking for a place to grab a bite and to kill a bit of time, I realized through Yelp that Sugar Cafe Lounge is actually open by 10am. I didn't even know they open in the mornings prior to this. The vibe of this place strikes me as a modernized Chinese karaoke place. It totally reminds me of the karaoke places that I used to frequent back in the day. They have the same black and neon purple/pink colour scheme. Dice shakers were readily available and visible. The modernisation portion can be attributed to the existence of a photo booth and kildult style cartoon characters wall stickers along the walls/window. And for a "club/lounge", the servers were definitely very polite and attentive which is a stark contrast to the service that you may come to expect in early 2000s karaoke places. My feeling towards the curry katsu egg Benedict is equally complicated. I think the dish has so much potential, but currently has several flaws. Let's start on a positive note. The hollandise sauce was a fit with the curry flavour. The built in acidity also worked to tone down the sauce's heaviness. But even with the acidity, it was a pretty heavy sauce. I like the taste of the sauce, but it's just too too heavy. The egg whites for the Benedict was a bit over cooked and getting on the rubbery side, yet the yolk remained runny. Which I found odd. The katsu pork is a bit on the smallish side and the batter did not seem like the Japanese panko style batter (seemed a bit closer to HK style). The pork was under seasoned, so the taste was hugely reliant on the sauce. They clearly used some form of milk bread for the dish. It's a decently thick slice, and it didn't seem like your typical wonder bread, but the bread also added to the heaviness of the entire dish. I have no clue how the vibe is at night or how busy it gets, but my feeling towards this place is a little bit complicated.

The lunch menu had quite a few things that sounded good but we decided to share an order of the Glazed Thatcher Farms Pork Belly (braised cabbage, roasted squash purée, wild mushrooms). The presentation was beautiful and it tasted really good! It was cooked perfectly - tender, moist, flavourful. Excellent dish. Their cocktail menu had a lot of interesting concoctions but we chose water and coffee. I know, it sounds boring but we still had a few stops planned on our long way home - all breweries. Yes, I was thinking responsibly! I'll have to come back to sample more of their menu. Our server was recommending their desserts. Next time. Since it was BOGO free during Soft Opening (until Nov 10), we ordered all 10 cocktails lol. I would recommend Kimochii, Berry Lady and Snowball :) The staff hardly speaks English, so make sure you speak slowly and use simpler words. Bring a friend who can speak mandarin would be helpful. I love the flavour and it's not too crazy heavy, even though it looks really creamy. It has very beef stew type vibes. The chicken wings were well cooked and still moist. I think it was too much flavour going on though. You LOVE the first and even second wing. But by the third one, I felt like it was getting too heavy. I know though that a lot of people love that and can't get enough of it. I personally don't like too much of any one thing. The brussel sprouts I felt the same. It's really yum for the first few bites but it gets really heavy after a while. I think it's really fun to have the appetizers and share a main with someone. I used to work for a company that sold redemption kiosks at casinos and going to a casino didn't entice me a single bit. Tell me that a concert is happening at a casino and I am there! I hadn't been back since I saw Cyndi Lauper back in 2006. It was an amazing show. She was steps away from me, in the crowd, singing and interacting with fans. I recently came here to see Jann Arden. I have seen her in concert more than any other artist. She is hilarious, sings beautifully, and is worth going to any show that she does. I decided to print my ticket. This place can also scan your Ticketmaster QR code. I'd rather do the latter in case I don't have enough battery power on my phone. Doors open an hour before the show starts. The show started at 8 pm. I filed in just before 7:30 pm. I got my ticket scanned by a woman who let me know to go straight ahead until I found the first set of open doors. Cool! I like that this place has a photo of every performer who has done a show here. I got to see Cyndi Lauper and reminisce about the exact show that I was at. Each photo has a signature. I also got to see photos of Regis Philbin, Trevor Noah, and more. It was like walking through some sort of hall of fame. I had another usher look at my ticket and point me in the right direction. A third usher took me directly to my seat. Staff here are extremely helpful! There isn't a bad seat in the house, even if you are far away from the stage. Two huge, crispy screens help you see everything. Jann Arden was amazing, as expected. She was on stage for 2.5 hours. There was a fifteen-minute intermission, which was nice. There is also a bar off to the right when you are facing the stage. There are washroom in this centre. I walked a bit more and used the ones at the casino after the show. That's my tip after a show! There is a quiet section from the entrance where merchandise (in this case, for Jann Arden) is available. It's perfectly set up to not interfere with the masses filing out of the centre. It's a good place to see a show. I recommend coming here. It's worth the drive up from the GTA. (461)

We recently went to see a concert on a Friday night at Casino Rama. This was my first time at the…read morevenue and I thought the actual stage and seating setup was quite nice. It didn't look like there are any obstructed seats, and since the venue is on the smaller side, everybody has a decent view. The staff were very helpful and took you right to your seat. The biggest complaint was the bar service. We sat in the upper levels and there was only one tiny bar with a couple of people working. It took us an hour in line to get an overpriced drink. A lot of customers ended up missing a good portion of the show because they were in line for drinks. I heard this was the same on the ground floor as well. After the show it took us a very long time to get a cab, and Ubers were pretty much non-existent. I would suggest arranging a ride ahead of time if possible.
