Tapas Lounge & Wine Bar - Very small order of penne for $14!

We tried this newly opened restaurant on Saturday night for a birthday celebration to try their…read more"savour york" prix fix menu. When I called to make a reservation for an early dinner at 6 p.m., I was Told they could "fit us in". The person on the other line wanted to know if we were staying for the night since she had other guests coming in at 8. We were dining with kids so I said that 2 hours for dinner would be enough. When we arrived in this industrial looking space, we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Most of the tables are low - lounge like. The few tables that are high with bar stool type chairs are all near the door and not in an ideal location. The bar dominates most of the room and there was a drum set in another part of the main floor suggesting that there would be live music later. We sat in a booth with a low table. The waitress, Susan, was very nice but she could not overcome the incompetence of the kitchen staff. The lemon drop martini had no lemon taste. The calamari appetizer was ok but too chewy for me. The chicken wings my son ordered were good. The bruchetta was nothing special. The worst part of the meal was waiting for our entrees - we waited over an hour between the time we finished our appetizers and the time the entrees arrived. The bacon wrapped tenderloin, when it did arrive, was tasty but tiny - four our of five of us ordered this entree and they were all small. My daughter ordered off of the main menu - the penne in rose sauce and the portion for $14 was tiny. I will post a picture. My apple crumble was the kind that you can buy at Costco - definitely not homemade. Mine was burnt. My son's dessert dd not arrive together with the rest of ours. The lemon sorbet was served in a real lemon and was tasty. The desserts all looked like they were store-bought. I will never come back to this restaurant. Our experience was most disappointing.

Attended a wedding here in late June for one of my gf's besties…read more The venue itself is absolutely beautiful with a quaint, outdoor terrace for ceremonies and a massive dining hall for receptions (adorned by double bars and washrooms on both ends. This wedding was quite big and although it was very spacious for the guests, admittedly, it was slightly hard seeing (and hearing) the bride and groom as they were on a raised center cove that was slightly walled off on the sides. The mics were also dying I think and needed the batteries changed out. Food-wise, it is a different story. 10 course chinese food dinner which you would think is pretty standard but it was actually quite hit or miss. I understand that portion control is typically a judgement call made by servers when they come around but our servers were quite inconsistent portioning out the food (at least at our table). I got 1 strand of jellyfish w/ my suckling pig. Multiple guests at our table also got uncooked e-fu noodles on their plate when the noodles came around (the noodles were literally crunchy still LOL). Fried rice was very bland. Crispy chicken was overcooked to smithereens. The guy sitting next to me had several shells and cartilage pieces in his soup that he had to pluck out haha. The rest were pretty good. So like I said, it hit or miss items. I found the bartenders on the left side of the venue to be far more professional and knowledgeable. Some of the bartenders working the bar on the right side of the venue were giving sass to a lot of guests (especially when they didn't know how to make simple drinks) which I was ok with but I could see a lot of guests didn't appreciate the added sass. For late night grub, the burgers were actually not bad! As a recommendation to the kitchen staff management (in case they're reading this), I know it's just late night grub, but if you gave the servers at the late night bar a grill to melt the cheese on the patties that would be awesome. They were there serving poutine and compiling the burger toppings anyways! Melted cheese on those late night sliders go a long way! TL;DR Amazing venue, food hit or miss. Would recommend for the venue alone (but perhaps explore w/ a diff cuisine or dinner vendor?)

Way to go Toronto!!!…read more This was a very nice steakhouse. It was a party of 4 on this trip and we all had something different but this was mine. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and the Cesar salad was the excellent balance. There was a smoked Gouda spinach dip that was loaded with flavor in every single bite. I highly recommend having that appetizer along with the sizzling shrimp. Other notable dishes really worth getting from our table was the blue cheese filet steak which was wrapped in a layer of bacon and the prime rib sandwich.. I opted for to pair red wine to compliment the meal. The ambiance is very cozy and elegant, ideal place for a business lunch or having a romantic dinner, or even a celebration event. The staff here provided a satisfying experience to include providing a sweet treat acknowledging the special occasion. This is for sure a must visit for me when I return to Toronto. Very impressed 5 of 5

It's been a while since we've done a steakhouse date night, and this ended up being a great choice…read more The restaurant was super busy when we went, so while service was still good, it wasn't the most personable since our server was clearly running around nonstop. They start you off with warm focaccia bread and butter, and the escargot sauce was so good we ended up dipping the bread into it. The escargot themselves were large, had a nice chew, and paired surprisingly well with the mushrooms, even as someone who usually doesn't like mushrooms. The 21-day aged prime rib was excellent and came topped with a huge pile of crispy onions that added great texture, especially with the rich au jus. The twice-baked potato was buttery, soft, and completed the meal perfectly. The sirloin and lobster was also cooked perfectly. The steak came out beautifully rare, and the lobster was tender and not overcooked. I also loved that the drawn butter stayed warm over a little tea candle so you could keep dipping throughout the meal. The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and comforting, especially with some extra crispy onions added on top. Overall, such a solid date night spot.
