Firehouse is a good place if you're in the sub mood but don't want the regular Subway or Quiznos. They have a good selection of subs to choose from and it's all made fresh. I ordered an Italian Sub "fully involved" meaning with all the toppings which was very good, it tasted better than other subs I've had in the past. The portion of meat was good and the bread was also better than average. Pricewise the subs here are more expensive so you're paying for the overall quality of the sandwich you're getting. If you're in Fairfax Towne Center and need a quick place to grab something to eat, Firehouse is a good bet. read more

I spoke with Josh, the Manager. He was very cordial and apologized for the error. He invited me back for a second try, which I did on Oct. 29th. So, I was out doing an errand on my "stay-cation" and was going to grab a bite at Panera. Then I saw this place. I went in and it looked like the sub version of Five Guys. OK, I'll bite. The manager was greeting people at the door, and he was very exuberant and nice. He took my order and explained the menu, which was lovely of him since the place was packed to the gills. I prefer Subway due to the size options and encouragement to build your own sub, but the quality here is good. Your size options are just "kid's" or "full-sized." There's sometimes a lot longer of a wait than I'd expect for a kid's size basic sub, but it's usually not a problem. LOVE the coke machine for customizing any variety possible. read more

In general, I love Firehouse subs. Prices are fair, food is good, and...the customer service is nice, usually. But the "service" (?) here (at this location) really, really... confused me. Every Firehouse I've ever been, I've always noticed the standard for all employees is to all yell "WELCOME!" when someone walks in the door, and "THANK YOU! HAVE A GREAT DAY!" as they leave (even if their expressions don't seem to mean it). I've always experienced that at all other locations, but this one. However, the very unusual thing is they do follow the "smiles and greetings" routine to some customers, but not others. It seemed to me, as I observed every customer walking in and out, those who are suspected of or fit the profile of English as a second language don't get the smiles and greetings. I, myself, apparently fit the profile as a non English speaker, I guess, because it was all silent as I walked out the door (while moments later, the person behind me get's a big "THANK YOU!!!!" as he walked out). I wish I recorded my experience on video...but that would've been difficult to do while eating a sandwich. It doesn't seem like much in writing. A lot of readers probably think I'm exaggerating. But ultimately, I really hope management reads this review and immediately requires all employees to unconditionally greet and smile every customer from this point. Anyway, the food is good at this location. Service was... well, in a plain, technical sense, no problems. I did pay. Only sub I have eaten here is their cheesesteak and it's pretty good! I enjoy it each & every time we visit. I tend to make my order online & just drop by to pick it up. The lines here can get long. Its' pretty convenient. There was one incident in which I ordered online & arrived at the time I was told my order would be ready & when I walked inside, the line to order a meal was super long. Ordering online helps one bypass that long line especially since the order was already placed & paid for. So, I just walked up to the counter where there was an employee making subs & I asked him if my online order was ready. He responded sounding highly annoyed & quickly stated that I would have to wait in line for my order. I understood he was really busy since that place was packed but I knew he was wrong. That wasn't cool. I just kindly reiterated that I had already ordered & paid so I was there to pick it up as instructed by their website. Annoyed once more, he reluctantly walked back to another worker & came back with a bag which contained my order. He didn't seem happy but that's not my problem. This Firehouse Subs is one of the few places where I look forward to ordering. On most of my visits I had a really charming cashier who made sure to spell my name correctly (John with an h) and struck up a conversation with me really naturally. I'm typically a shy person so I appreciate his effort to connect with me. I was a bit disappointed when I visited and he wasn't there, but my cashier turned out to be the owner! He (Josh?) was really friendly and told me about all the ways he's trying to improve the store. Passionate guy. The food is exceptional. I personally enjoy getting the Italian with banana peppers (complementary add-on) and as I visited more frequently they started recognizing me and my order! I tried the steamer once for variety and I really enjoyed the unique taste of it. Lastly, I appreciate how much Firehouse Subs gives to local first responders. They ask you if you'd like to round up your order to the nearest dollar as a donation and I think that's a really neat way to do it. read more

Coming from MA I was pretty skeptical of the quality of the subs here. I ordered a Cheddar-Brisket sub. It came with Mayo and BBQ sauce. It was steamed and tasted very good. I cant wait to come back and try the rest. read more

I don't 5 star often but yesterday I was blown away at how great these sandwiches are. mmm.. I had the Italian and it was delicious. It was my first time at this chain and me and a sandwich can't really go wrong, I love them. My mom got the pulled pork and she said it was phenomenal. The cool thing about this place is that you can make over 120 different drinks in just one soda machine (I know other places have the same machine). You can also donate to firefighters. First time having this place. Was gonna go to Panera next door but decided to give this place a try. I ordered the Cheddar Brisket combo. Sandwich was good but I thought the bread would be toasted as well. The bread ended up being a little soggy. Not sure if toasting the bread is an option but I'll be going back so I'll make sure to ask. The only other issue with this location is the size. It's really tight unless you're staying to eat. There wasn't anywhere to really stand without being in the way while I was waiting for my order. May want to consider ordering online or through their app if you're getting takeout. read more

Very tasty subs, friendly staff, very clean. Great selection of hot sauces. Chili was pretty darn good too. Using steam to warm the sandwich is an interesting approach--I have to confess I was not sure what the result would be. Turns out to be great, really brings out the flavor without drying out the sandwich or giving that just-out-of-the-microwave flavor. Beats Subw-y and Quizn-s hands down, which can't come close in quality. Only thing that comes close is Potb-lly, which does have very good subs--but Firehouse is better, mainly because of the quality of the ingredients and the steaming technique. I've had just about every sub this place has to offer. They are consistent and friendly at each visit. I most often order the meatball sub which is on point. Fresh meatballs and marinara. Soft bread that is toasted to perfection. The only downside, you are going to spend about $10 for a medium sub, chips and drink. Not a bad price, but not exactly a budget lunch. I find the sandwiches to just be okay, nothing too special in my opinion. I have only ever ordered veggie sandwiches, so take it for what it's worth. An unheated sandwich will be doughy (almost uncooked), so I highly suggest heating it up. The main reason I am writing this review is to talk about the lines. Most recently there were 8 of us in line with one register open. There were 6 people working on the sandwiches, one cashier (who seemed to be a novice), and two managers standing around watching. Actually if they were watching they might have pitched in some assistance so more than likely they were just day dreaming. While I was waiting for my sandwich the line continued to grow until there were approximately 16 people in line, which then extended out the door. Then the manager appeared to wake up out of his trance and decided to finally assist. So, 16 is the magic number for opening up a second register. Talk about happy, friendly employees! It's always nice to come in here because you get greeted by the guys behind the food counter before you even see them! They also don't mind when you have 5 questions about the food when most of the sammies are listed in two places.. :). I got the tuna salad on a white roll- the tuna comes with pickles already diced up in it..I don't think they're actually pickles but I can't remember what they are called exactly- they taste exactly the same. I'm pretty simple- I like mayo, lettuce, and pickles on my tuna subs- they fulfilled this but my roll could have used a bit more mayo...but I compensated for the lack of mayo with honey mustard, which their's, is on point. I got a combo drink and whips as well, I love the soda machine they have, the only thing that could make it better would be those mini ice chips rather than big ice cubes but I feel that way everywhere I go. The restaurant has always been clean and well taken care of, and your food is brought to you once you order. They do a very nice job of keeping customers happy and returning, which is the same in my case. read more

So I have been twice, and I'm in heaven! First time i went i was gonna go to panera with my boyfriend but instead thankfully ended up inside here, it was like destiny! The second time we went we came back to this location not knowing there was one in kingstowne (where we were) I got the steak and cheese and he got the Italian again, we both had half of the other and it worked perfectly both were amazing i couldn't finish mine so my boyfriend happily ate the rest! I apparently have been a snob about sandwiches my whole life and never realized it. Well, less snobby and more closed-minded. It took Hubs a solid three months to get me to try Firehouse Subs. So I obliged (or felt that way) after coming home from a trip. It was late, we needed food, sandwich seemed like a great option. We went to Firehouse Subs, and while the restaurant was relatively bare, I was greeted with dozens of HOT SAUCES. Yes, hot sauces. One of my favorite things in the world. So hubs and I both ordered the club, warm and toasty. What ensued then was greatness. Picking and choosing hot sauces, trying them with the sandwich. Laughing and watching the pre-playoff games on the TV conveniently above the tables. *sigh*. It was such a fun experience. The sandwich was very tasty too. The store has a new owner, Josh. He is amazing and has really taken this store to new heights. The staff are friendly and courteous. They work quickly, even during busy times, and always have a smile on their face and a "Welcome to FireHouse" when you walk in the door. I personally love the sandwiches. The Hero and plain ole turkey are my favorites. Something about the steaming just makes the sandwich taste so much better than any other sub place. This is the only sub I'll eat! I had my first ever Firehouse (TM) sub on Friday (January 11th, 2019) and I am astonished at how incredible it was. Not only was the sandwich incredibly flavorful (my mouth is watering just from writing this LOLOL) but the customer service was to die for. Walking in, I had no idea how much a simple sandwich shop could change my life, but alas, Firehouse Subs did just that. I ordered a Turkey Bacon Ranch (per the cashier's, super cute btw, recommendation) and I enjoyed every bite. My friend, who came along with me, ordered a Hook and Ladder (I love the name btw! It really ties together the whole fire station aesthetic) to go and I can still smell the sandwich in my car after the 30 minute drive home to this day- AMAZING! I wish I could give the fairfax towne center firehouse a 500 star review but sadly Yelp is limiting me to a mere 5 stars. This is my favorite fire house subs in the entire world. The employees are so kind and polite, I always feel welcome in this establishment. They play my favorite channel, HGTV, and they even bring my sandwiches to my table! This is such a great place, I drive 22 minutes just to get that sweet, sweet hook and ladder sandwich from this specific firehouse subs. The interior design is also flawless and well themed, it feels like a real firehouse! I've always heard people talking about this place, but never had the urge to go and try it. I'm not a big fan of subs. I feel like anyone can grab bread and meat and make themselves a sandwich at home. But I'm really glad I checked this place out. The best thing about it is the firehouse sauce. It's sweet, tangy, a little spicy and adds so much flavor to any sandwich. I had the hearty chicken salad sandwich and my bf had the meatball sub. Both were good, but the chicken salad sandwich definitely stood out. There were chunks of moist chicken instead of being all mashed up and all the ingredients were fresh. The staff was super friendly as well. One thing I was not very impressed with was the chili. It was a little bland and the texture was kind of gritty. I'll never be back to Firehouse. The bread was average (not good) and the sandwich contents were mediocre at best. I tried the cheese steak, which as usual I altered to be more like the real thing. The result was an entirely lackluster, unseasoned mess. Knowing my Philadelphian blood makes finding a good cheesesteak difficult, I went back at a later date and tried a normal sandwich (hook and ladder?) but I disliked it so much I wouldn't eat more than a few lackluster bites. Variety is the spice of life, and I say the more the merrier when it comes to sub shops. The smell of Subway bread is only appetizing for so long. Like everyone else now, their focus is on hot subs, but they stick with mostly traditional ingredients. They have a conveyor belt toaster and little steamers for heating the meat and cheese. I think this helps to keeper their moister ingredients from prematurely making the sandwich soggy. Catering to more manly men, the subs come in 8 and 12 inch options. They also have a huge collection of hot sauces on a rack right where you wait for your sandwich. It gives the place a decentralized, local feel but it also ruins any attempt at a clean aesthetic.
