First impressions: Our hostess, Janine is a bubbly, bright, breath of fresh air. Ambiance: "Soft Casual", I.e. you feel good in nice jeans, leather and bling. Service: Outstanding! The servers, especially Joe, were attentive without being annoying. Food: Fresh hot bread(s); Generous and fab Fried Calamari and decent Crab cake appetizers (I'm picky being from the Chesapeake Bay region); Excellent Short Rib Pasta and oh so good Shrimp and Crab Pasta entrees! We had the Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream but I wish I had room for the cheese cake and chocolate ambrosia cake! I think the Chef loves whipped cream almost as much as I do! Easily enough food for a family of 4 for two consecutive dinners! I now understand why everyone had take away bags! They have a prixe fixe menu for the remainder of the year so do make sure to stop by. I know I will. (Reservations recommended).

She read the…read morehours of operations wrong, so we arrived a bit early - before opening actually - but we were still welcomed. What was most impressive was we were waited on by the owner of the joint, David! He was so friendly and sweet, changing the temperature to our needs and offering suggestions on his menu. Unlike most places during LIRW, this restaurant serves full size menu options and not the watered down, miniature versions that most other places do. She chose the Mac & Cheese as her app, I chose the Crab Cakes. I've never been a big fan of Mac & Cheese at restaurants because they just can't compare to my mama's, but I was impressed. This 7-cheese Mac and Cheese was so rich and delicious. You can taste the different cheese throughout and there was more than enough for us to share. The Crab Cakes were delicious! Although, I can't say I was able to pull chunks of crab like I had hoped, they were still delicious accompanied by the caper sauce drizzled on top. We shared our apps because they were so plentiful, and we almost forgot we had entrees and desserts left! As an entree she chose the Shrimp Scampi, which came with rice, veggies and more shrimp than I've seen on a plate - skewered and sauced to PERFECTION. I chose the Short Rib pasta - which was a plate full of rigatoni in a savory brown sauce with grape tomatoes, shaved parmesan and enough short rib to eat in every bite. Needless to say, we had to take our desserts to go. Hers was a chocolate cake and mine a Creme Brûlée. I was pleased when the server (who took over for David) let me know because it was being taken to go, the Creme Brûlée wouldn't hold up well, but they had a good alternative. Overall, I definitely feel like I got more than my $29.95 price tag for the meal between quality and service. I would recommend this spot to anyone in the area, and will definitely be coming back.

The setting alone makes you want to stay. I can see what others on Yelp mentioned about the service. It wasn't very crowded (aside from a couple of private parties), and although servers were present, it took about 30 minutes to receive our salads and burgers. The delay didn't seem to match the volume. That said, the food was clean. Healthy and tasty. I can't take that away from them. Overall: beautiful ambience, great food, but the service didn't align with the rest of the experience. I'd go back though.

We did not stay at an Air B & B because we needed handicapped accessibility, so the hotel worked out great. I booked a handicapped, double beds, and ocean view. They gave us a corner room on the eighth floor. The View was amazing! I overheard an employee saying that the rooms were recently updated. I would NOT say that the rooms were run down, but the attention to detail in the rooms and hallways is noticeably missing, particularly for the price of stay. Couple of small examples. The toilet paper holder was drooping off the wall. Every time I went to tear a piece off, the whole roll would fall. Also they placed one of the hand rails behind the toilet. Handicapped room, so great. However, they did not place it high enough on the wall for the toilet lid and seat to clear it, which caused the seat to constantly fall. Also the paint did not exactly look like it was applied by anyone that pays attention to detail. As far as the good, beyond the location and view. The staff were super friendly. I can not say enough kind words about all the staff I encountered. They were all very friendly and attentive. The room was clean. It was also easy to find street parking during the night. A day or two after we departed they sent me a text offering 25% off if I come stay again within the next two weeks. Given that I don't live downstate, that is not likely to happen. I do have to go back to Long Island next year for a wedding in Suffolk County. Given the price, I am not sure it would be worth it to stay there and travel to the wedding. Maybe if they had offered 25% off my next stay, without an expiration date, I might have considered staying there when I go back down again for the wedding.

The entire Goodman family (owners/directors) are all hands on deck, involved in the day to day, and always engaging with campers, staff, and families. There's an incredible culture and camaraderie between everyone, from the group leaders who attended Rolling River decades ago as campers, all the way to the new counselors. Most important of all, everyone we've met at orientation, meet the matey's, reunion events, etc. are patient and nurturing, and truly enjoy working with children. The leadership team and head counselors are educators and it really shows throughout each camp day. Yes, the kids are here to have the time of their lives, but beneath all the fun, there's real substance and intentionality throughout the day. In the STEAM lab, there's a weekly theme and age appropriate lessons for each group. Sports/athletic blocks promote participation and teamwork. And instructional swim lessons use every square inch of the pools to maximize practice and repetitions. Between the waterfront with boating. kayaking and paddleboarding, a great mix of outside vendors/instructors, and included field trips, there's a ton of variety day to day. And we can't forget the always over-the-top special days (e.g. carnival day) and end of summer color war! It may seem cliche but we really noticed both of our kids "come out of their shells" after each camp season. They were more confident in playing sports and participating, noticeably more comfortable in the pool, and the biggest win of all was conquering their stage fright. I can attribute that last one to song and plaque day and the theatrical performance each group works on with the great team at "To The Stage" in Oceanside. We so appreciate everyone at the RIVA and recommend Rolling River without hesitation. We're already counting down the days until summer and just another two years before our little guy is old enough to join his two sisters in the fun. Thank you!
