I like to give great reviews... when they are earned. The restaurant is in a hotel I am staying at for a convention on Long Island. The hotel itself is run down - in a great location with friendly staff. Nothing about this place has "wowed" me and the restaurant is no exception. Most of the front desk staff is just hanging out. My group sat at the bar and we asked quite a few questions about the menu - we do this everywhere... curious foodies! Waiter was not sure about menu items so the Rabbi came out and offered vague descriptions. I wanted a martini and the waiter was not a bartender so I had to WALK myself to the bar across the lobby to order my own drink and bring it back to the restaurant. What? The Mediterranean trio appetizer had good filling. Over fried and greasy. The Rabbi offered me a napkin to dab off the excess oil. What? Walking across the lobby to order my 2nd martini and carry back to the restaurant... Greek salad salad was well prepared with fresh vegetables and herbs. Lamb chops? Off the chain delicious!!! Lamb kebab presented on the skewer was fair and salty. There was only one other table in the restaurant - the service was slow and inattentive. Having to ask for things multiple times. Sunday night dinner, party of two. Tasty food, clean and modern ambiance, great service. A little pricy since the entrees are a la carte and so, sides are an additional $10 or so. We ordered the pommes fries, duck roll, short rib beggars purse, kufta kabab and lamb chops. Nice opening with flavorful soft bread sticks/pita and a unique selection of three well crafted dips. Fries were perfect. Duck roll was well built and definitely had flavor but not for us. Short rib beggars purse was unavailable. We anticipated this but they should have told us sooner. Kufta kebab had good flavor but we've had better. Lamb chops were rubbery and lacked flavor, an expensive let down. Avoid. Pepsi was flat. Kids menu was good. Ambiance was good. I went there last night. Everything is OK, the food is good but a little bit pricey. We ordered two entry, one side, two drinks for 120 dollars. I felt very comfortable first, and it's supposed to be a good night. But when I checked out, it just went wrong. They charged me 20% service charges as default without notifying me!!! I planned to give that much tips originally, but they charged me without letting me know!!! It threw everything away. I will not visit it any more. read more

This place in my experience truly sucks. Although the decor is sublime, everything else falls short. It is incredibly overpriced, the service is lousy, and the food is not worth the $200 for 2 people to eat that you will be spending. Go spend your hard earned money on a place worth the top-dollar price. The food was underseasoned, the wine was old and tasted like vinegar, and the manager had the poor judgment to have the loudest meeting in the quietest dining room within earshot of paying customers with another dissatisfied couple about a wedding they planned to have at the venue. Great food, and atmosphere. Had the chicken tangine, braised lamb, samosas, lamb meatballs. All were delicious. Our waiter Chris was great in guiding us through the menu. It was disappointing That they were out of a few wines and I was unable to order my wife the only wine she likes, pino Grigio. How is that possible that a restaurant runs out of pino Grigio? Loved loved loved the Surf Room. It's in an old hotel in Long Beach but when you walk into the restaurant it's like another world. The decor is wonderful, great ambience. The walls are designed to look like waves, the ceiling like underwater bubbles and the chairs as if they are made from driftwood. A lot of thought went into the decor. The service was great and the food is gourmet, amazing kosher food. Everything we tried was perfect, subtly flavored and just incredible. It's hard to believe an upscale Manhattan- level restaurant in Long Beach, best of all without Manhattan prices. I could go on and on just about the Montauk grouper fishcakes. Enjoy!! read more

So I got a groupon for this place and decided to check it out with my wife. We were not disappointed. Everything we ordered was delicious, from appetizers and mains to dessert it was amazing and different in a very good way. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY!! Nothing like trying to go to a nice dinner and having it end with the restaurant manager THREATENING TO CALL THE COPS on you! Clear sign of a restaurant to avoid. Average food, above average prices, and a manager that has no concept of customer service or how to handle a situation in a pleasant manner. Not a good combination. BEWARE of the groupon you may have purchased. You might think it's a good deal until you realize it requires you to have four people sitting there instead of 2. First the manager lies directly to my face and says there's absolutely nothing he can do and that I'd have to take it up with groupon. He could have easily chosen to be a good host and spoken to me nicely. Instead I was forced to buy 2 additional appetizers and 2 entrees. He wouldn't even drop a 7 dollar appetizer as a nice measure. After I expressed my displeasure with the situation he threatens to call cops on me. He then had the audacity to put on a "mandatory" 20% gratuity for using a Groupon, even after I was treated like garbage. For anyone thinking about taking a ride to long beach for a nice dinner, you won't find it here. There's plenty of better options out there. read more

The food was delightfully tasty, but the service was miserable. Fewer than half the tables were full yet staff were frazzled as if every table was packed with lines around the corner... they didnt even have enough menus for us... So tired of kosher establishments that just dont know how to interface with guests... I also dont need staff to let me know how stressed they are - I am coming for a relaxing dinner out... not to have staff stress deflected onto me. Kosher world - get your **** together! We were pleasantly surprised at how good this place is! The decor is modern, the waiter was very friendly and helpful with our choices. I came down July 1 with my daughter and her friend the surf room was in hotel so we ate there food is great but most of the servers seemed upset I tried to over look since I am a server myself and ppl have a bad day but I felt very rushed I wasn't asked if I wanted anything else never brought water when they did they never refilled them they would drop the check while we were still eating i literally had food in mouth and waitress said she was getting off and needed me to close or transfer to another server but was making clear she wanted me to close the whole timing eating she kept saying they were under staffed and it wasn't her fault I asked her if she would not say that again because it was upsetting since we are on a weekend mini vacation after my surgery she proceeded to curse at me and call me all sorts of names I was In shock that someone would do that to a guest ppl walked out do to her attitude and she didn't seem to care I went to front seat to complain and she followed me and started talking more trash in front of the 2 ppl working behind desk and the gentleman told her what she was doing was very inappropriate so I went back into Resturant to get bill and she is still trash talking me with my kids around so I asked for manager and then GM this women wanted to get into a fight with me I would not recommend going there just because of the Resturant staff read more
