Our waitress at FK's let us know about the passage that leads to The Runt Club on the 2nd floor. Huge plus, my boyfriend didn't have to finish his drink, he simply just brought it over with him, no problem! This is the cutest little bar I've ever seen. Dark woodwork, lots of spots to sit, TV's, free popcorn, and the bartenders are in their own little coop-like bar in the centre. The service was REALLY good! It was packed but we always saw someone going around every 10-15 minutes or so, asking if we were okay. The waitresses never seemed rushed or stressed, just loving their jobs. This is a great spot if you want to chill out with some friends, have a nice pint and catch the game or just chat over popcorn. All came out first after our drinks and were tasty. The spinach dip was a bit on the salty side, but that was okay, we still gobbled it up anyway. Hanging out with three guys, you know the food is going to be eaten. For my main meal, I got the Buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap was really good, super spicy and hot, and the sweet potato fries, were sliced into thick wedges and didn't come with a chipotle sauce like most sweet potato fries do. That was fine, I wasn't able to finish my main meal because of the apps we ordered, so I got a take out box to put my leftovers in for tomorrow. I'm glad we went when we did, it started to get busier and more and more people started coming onto the patio, security guard blocked off the back entrance to the stairs going downstairs to the back for the easier access to the washrooms, so I had to use the front and go all the way through the restaurant. If you are going to McCabe's for a nice drink or night out with friends, your best option is to get their early, before the crowds of students fill up the place for the rest of the night to get the best seat in the house.

Super casual - you see grad students, some undergrads, and professors all just taking it easy, usually with a glass of beer in-hand. But I got to say, I was a bit disappointed with the food quality. We ordered: Pita & Dip, the Shroom Platter, fries, & the Classic Club with bacon. The Pita & Dip ($7.55): baked pita with spinach & artichoke dip - the seasoning on the pita was too salty and the pita was overbaked - too dark of a brown and too crunchy. The dip itself was okay though, overall, it wasn't strong enough in flavour to stand out and it was also a bit thicker than I would have wanted. The Shroom Platter ($4.20): It was decent - the ranch flavour definitely adds flavour. The texture was on the wet side because of the mushrooms but it didn't deter from the taste much and from the crunch of the breaded shells. The Classic Club with bacon ($6.50): my friend enjoyed it though it looked small - like it was the size and look of a crustless Dempster's plain white bread with mediocre/cheap tomatoes and deli slices and bacon. The small fries ($2.85 vs $3.95 for large): weren't good - they were on the mushy side - and were cold when we got them. Not enough crunch. I think we came on an off day - service was friendly and accommodating but the food took too long to get to the table. I had to ask about our order twice (the pita & dip wasn't on the table even after we finished the shrooms and half of the sandwich and the fries were forgotten until we inquired about them). I'd give food a 2.5, atmosphere a 4, and service a 4. I'd go here again for the atmosphere and selection of drinks - while the food isn't the best in quality, it is on the cheap side and it's a great and convenient location for Western students, faculty, and staff.

The staff are attentive and personable and there was no issue with service. Somehow they are still operating with the road construction on Dundas and the side street...basically eliminating access to their parking lot. It was a positive food experience and happy to recommend Players Sports Bar if in the area.
