I know this is a casino restaurant so I wasn't expecting anything great, but if you're going to charge $16 for a salad, it should be entrée sized. There was maybe a cup and a half of lettuce. On calculating the calories for said salad it was under 200 calories (with a small portion of the dressing included) which is pretty sad. I left this restaurant still super hungry, and I'm a pretty small person. If you go here, order something other than a salad. read more

Our coffee tasted really bad and the waitress said it's probably from the shift prior. They don't have graveyard shift so that must mean from last night. Bacon was raw potatoes are pre-cooked and were cold not even held to room temp. The waitress was horrible and the manager on duty. Stay at Ameristar Black Hawk a few times a year, so we are always eating breakfast here. The food quality for breakfast is generally average at best. Today and yesterday we ordered the $8.99 fruit platter to go with breakfast. Yesterday, the strawberries were large and tasted great and the other fruit was acceptable, though the portion is small. Today, the strawberries were small and not ripe. The grapes were on the verge of becoming raisins. Bottom line is the quality control in the back kitchen certainly needs some attention. read more

THE FRENCH DIP WAS DELICIOUS. I am a fan of a good french dip. A good french dip consists of: Good bread that can get moist and not disintegrate and has a slight chew. The meat needs to be free of the hard gristle you get with lower quality meats and flavorful. The horseradish sauce needs to compliment and not overpower the sandwich. The au jus need to be flavorful, have a rich color and not just taste like a meat water. This check marked all my boxes, and honestly I cant recall having a better sandwich. In fact it was so good I ordered a second sandwich. I forgot to tell the waitress no onions on the second but it was still delicious! Dinner-The Pork Belly Mac/cheese was a joke; they subbed pulled pork for the pork belly & half of the meat was so tough I couldn't chew it. The pasta was bland, didn't get even a hint of gouda flavor in the sauce. Not at all worth $22...Husbands burger was ok but not prepared as ordered & came with the wrong side. The atmosphere of this place is warm and inviting. It's called Fireside for a reason. Instead of being inside a casino restaurant, you're transported to a cozy cabin-like diner. It's odd to me that this is the only place in the casino that you can eat if you are under 21. No one under 21 is allowed on the first floor AT ALL. Which means no buffet or café for you, so families are stuck eating here on the second floor. Bummer for you little tykes. You can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. Pretty much all of the basics for a standard casino restaurant. I've eaten here a few times, and nothing really stands out to me regarding food. Order some eggs, order a sandwich, heck, even order a steak. Be my guest. Use those comp points and then get back out there on the gambling floor. Service is decent. Nothing too good, nothing too bad. You'll get served when you get served, not when you want to. Does that make sense? For the prices, I don't expect much. I decided to give them another try after a terrible experience about a year ago. Today I was very pleasantly surprised with great food and friendly service. Alright. Here we go. Get ready for a bumpy ride. I am going to make a list of all the "interesting" things that happened during my dinner. 1. We were greeted with friendly staff and requested a table for 7. We reached the table and it was set for 6. 2. Three of my family members ordered diet cokes. All three cokes were flat. 3. Then the food came out. The Cobb salad was missing the turkey. One burger had the wrong side. The chicken pot pie was average at best. The Rueben was also nothing special. 4. The biggest thing is that my brother found a large piece of plastic inside of the fried portion of his fish in the fish and chips. We are thinking it was from the fish packaging.... Then the good news! 1. The staff was super friendly, very efficient and overall great! 2. Two of my family members REALLY enjoyed their burgers. (I tasted one and thought that it was dry and boring). 3. The Cobb salad was fresh and tasty (even without the turkey) 4. We had Jillian as our server and she did a great job. I know my family can be high maintenance sometimes but she handled it all really well. Overall, would not recommend. This was my first trip to Fireside Kitchen and to Blackhawk, CO. The town in kind of funky and there isn't much to do unless you love to gamble. The Ameristar Hotel, where this eatery is located is very nice... on par with some of the less glitzy Vegas properties. We went up to celebrate a friends anniversary and had a great time. I'm no gambler but enjoyed the experience nonetheless. Before we went back to Co Springs, We had to grab some grub and Fireside Kitchen is a good place for a post-casino night meal! I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs and it was massive!! The chicken fried steak was as big as a small frisbee. Talk about a heart attack on a plate! In addition to being huge, it was also pretty good. The gravy had a nice flavor to it and the steak was battered just right. The eggs were done exactly the way I like them (over medium) which seems to be hard for most restaurants to get right for some reason. The other folks at the table all had the Green Chili Breakfast Burrito and it seemed to be a hit as well. I tried a bit of my wife's and it was not bad. The flavor of the green chili was not overly spicy. In fact, it was a bit bland which may be geared towards the mostly older clientele that frequents this place. The portion size, like my dish, was massive. Both dishes would be easy to share. The only other item I ordered was a Bloody Mary. While it was much needed, it wasn't very good. I had to spice it up with a lot of pepper and some hot sauce but it was still too heavy on the tomato side and bland.....again, probably OK for most customers. Let's face it, this town is a magnet for old folks who are trying to double their Social Security checks. We went to dinner around 5:30 last night with our 6 year old grandson - "don't judge " he's a meat eater lol - ordered him the prime rib it came out with only maybe 1/5 of the steak eatable the rest was all fat 4/5 of what they brought out was fat ! We order medium it can out so raw we couldn't cut it - or there was so much gristle we couldn't cut it - so he had maybe 5 bites - my husbands hamburger smelled like spoiled meat so he left that - I have never called over waitress but I did all she said was the steak looked under cooked she sent over the chef he answer was prime rib is fatty ! We just left and went to vending machine and that poor guy got chips for dinner ( he didn't mind that part lol) but I need to point out I paid the bill and tipped the waitress- I will NEVER go there and will be sure and tell my friends about the experience! We've had many meals here over the span of 6 plus years. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. We haven't visited in about 8 Months, what happened?!?! The menu is minimal and the service is awful. There's not a manager to be seen. I do feel for our server, as we were sat way out of his presumable section and waited 25 min before anyone approached us. We celebrated our 40th anniversary at the Fireside last night. Our waiter, Juan was incredible. He had great meal suggestions for both of us, which were perfect! We returned our margaritas because they were 99.4% sour mix, the beer they returned was 3/4 full due to lots of head from bad pour and a dirty glass, the waitress laughed at my wife when she didn't want smoked turkey on her Cobb Salad (who puts turkey on a Cobb Salad???), when they brought my wife's Cobb Salad it had a short curly hair in her salad, like way too short to be from a head...then the waitress asked how long the hair was. We had a reservation of 12 for my friends 50th birthday. We were seated 1 hour after the reservation time and had poor service after that. They only serve certain signature drinks (with hard alcohol ie whiskey, vodka, rum and refused a drink consisting of just one of the spirits) they instead said I had to go downstairs to the casino bar for that. The restaurant was almost empty and service was totally subpar. If you visit this establishment, make sure you are not hungry and only want a select signature drink. Fireside Kitchen is the casual, sit-down restaurant inside of Ameristar and it's on the second floor of the building. They have a fairly large menu full of traditional American foods like burgers, wings, meatloaf, sandwiches, mac 'n cheese, and breakfast staples. Breakfast, by the way, is served all day long while they are open. They also do some interesting shakes/malts like turtle (vanilla ice cream, caramel, hot fudge, and candied pecans) or cherry cheesecake if you're looking to get serious with your caloric intake. Nick and I ate here our first night in Black Hawk and we were in and out in no time, they definitely are quick to serve you. They were also more than accommodating for special requests. I wanted chicken tenders shaken in hot sauce like wings and even though it wasn't on the menu the server was more than happy to order it for me, and the kitchen was more than happy to make it. The space is easily big enough to accommodate large parties, too so if you're here with a group this might be a good option to look into. Just be aware that they close fairly early. On a Sunday night Nick and I went by around 9 and they had already closed up shop for the night, although the website does say they are open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. read more

I was pleasantly surprised after reading all of the negative reviews! We visited on a Tuesday at lunch time after receiving a meal voucher the night before. We were seated promptly, and our server Christie came and greeted us and took our beverage order. Drinks were served quickly and I enjoyed the Bloody Mary. My boyfriend and I split the grilled cheese and tomato soup and also some green chili. The green chili, French fries, and grilled cheese were all good. The tomato soup was a little bland but what's a grilled cheese without tomato soup? This was our second visit to this restaurant and we would probably go back!
