We were in the area and decided to try this place. We walked in with a party of 8, and they were able to accommodate us without any issues. We ordered fries, vegan stir fry, chicken wings, chicken Alfredo pasta, and a few mimosas. Overall, the food was decent. The vegan stir fry was just okay, but I really liked my Alfredo. To-go Order: Small Caesar Salad and Elk Stew in Bread Bowl. Service was definitely a focus. The greetings and interactions on the phone were the same as being welcomed at the front door, nice. Ambiance: Typical Mountain town pseudo-fancy place with indoor and outdoor seating. Open concept. Caesar Salad: 3 The Romain Lettuce was weak. Not green, vibrant, nutritious Romain... check the pic. Also, a Caesar with "balsamic glaze" is spitting on the idea of a time intensive anchovy dressing. This dressing did not taste homemade and had balsamic which effectively ruined it. Elk Stew: 3.5 The stew was hearty, thick, and quite delicious... and over salted. Potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, plenty of elk. The bread bowl was soft and tasty. It would be ideal to be a sourdough locally baked bowl, IMO. Overall, I'd try it again at some point. read more

Back in Idaho Springs and couldn't believe we've never stopped into MTN Prime. Gorgeous interior and the bar was beautiful to look at. Wow. Love the simple but upscale decor and wood accents. We ordered an appetizer that was out of this world, two soups in bread bowls and a steak. Minus the steak which arrived clearly overcooked, everything else was phenomenal. I ordered their chowder of the week which was clearly a soup on arrival. My breadbowl arrived on it's own as well, as the soup would have demolished it in minutes. Not sure this was advertised accurately and I paid more for the breadbowl that sat to the side. Very odd. That aside, the soup was delicious. Waitstaff were great minus the one dude who didn't seem too interested in the steak being overcooked but later offered my guy a complimentary cocktail as a peace offering. It was a nice gesture but his impression had already landed with us. Despite the small mishaps, wed definitely return to MTN Prime. Second time's a charm, maybe? read more

This was our last stop in Idaho Springs, on our drive back to Denver Airport... The place had a very nice, lofty American Frontier ambiance. I felt that it was probably one of the, if not the finest restaurant in Idaho Springs. I loved that it was open early, with a good brunch menu. My husband had Short Ribs Benedict, and I had Chicken & Waffles...and both were really good. I will say, however, that mine would have been better if they were less soggy. For that, I have to deduct a star. Who knew that a small, quaint town like Idaho Springs would have decent restaurants like this? read more

Located in beautiful Idaho Springs, Co. This is an amazing town with lots of great food. This is the cream of the crop, probably the nicest and fanciest restaurant there. The prices aren't cheap but the food is great. I'd recommend this place for breakfast/brunch and dinner. The steaks here are great. The breakfast is really good too. The staff is friendly. I've been served quickly here where other restaurants around have over an hour wait. It's worth it and it's an impressive establishment. read more

After hiking in Georgetown, we decided to stop in Idaho Springs for breakfast. Honestly we picked it because there was no wait. The prices weren't too bad for breakfast/ brunch, and we got seated right away. The food was good. I got the classic breakfast. My only complaint is that they only had packets of creamer for coffee. I ordered the spinach artichoke dip and shrimp Alfredo pasta and she recommended the blackened shrimp and it was so good. This place created such deeply satisfying experience for our group of 3 celebrating a birthday. We were prepared to spend a little more than usual in exchange for a proper good meal and this place delivered that 100%. Between the 3 of us we got two pasta entrees, a mashed potato side, bok choi side, grilled Brie, clam chowder, two desserts, SIX drinks and spent $247 after tip. Every thing we ordered was delectable; but the grilled Brie. Good lord. I felt like a royal renaissance woman being fanned with palm leaves and hand fed that ish. My boyfriend who famously doesn't like cheese was turned to the cheese side tonight. For our Italian portion we had the garlic cheese bread to start and tiramisu to finish. Both were amazing. Service was quick and our waitress Keely was great. I had the Elk Stew, it was savory and delicious. I love a good thick strew so it was perfect. My husband had the ribeye with the Brussels sprouts, his steak was cooked perfect to order and the Brussels sprouts had great flavor. The atmosphere was clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. First timers at MTN prime. We walked past yesterday and then noticed our Airbnb had recommended it so we went for dinner. Chad was our waiter and if there is any more of an attentive, kind, knowledgeable waiter in this town I'd find that hard to believe. From the moment we sat down we knew this would be a great experience. Not only was the service incredible, but also the food. Chad gave his recommendation and we took it. Short ribs for the win. This place used to be pretty good. Chicken Alfredo sauce tasted like it was out of a jar, and the chicken breast was paper thin like out of a bag from the grocery store freezer section. There were green onions on pasta and literally 3 pieces of tomato the size of a dime. Caesar salad was just strange. Balsamic on caesar but dressing so watery you can't taste it. The crème brûlée was prepared exactly the way I like it, with the custard warm, not ice cold like most restaurants serve it! Our waitress was excellent and made good cocktail and menu suggestions. Responsive service. We ordered elk stew, bison meatloaf, MTN prime burgers with mushrooms and fries. All are really good and filling. The shaved ribeye is soft and flavorful. We came here for lunch and it was great! The service was perfect. The food was delicious. I ordered the crabcake BLT with a side of Caesar salad and some Elk Stew. I thought everything was amazing. I think the crabcake could use a lemon on the side so people have the option to squeeze it in or not. I love my seafood to have a kick of citrus, but other than that it was great. Visited MTN Prime after a nice day at the Hot Springs. It's located in a nearby, quaint pocket of town. As visitors, we browsed the length of the strip to see what interested us. We had this spot in mind from the start, but wanted to check out our options. We decided to eat outside since it was such a nice day. I treated myself with the crab cakes and salmon. I love love love crab cakes and these did not disappoint. The spicy mayo paired so well. As for my entree, I did enjoy the salmon and asparagus. I wasn't too sure about the risotto - I actually thought they were grits. It didn't have any flavor to it and I could have done without. I finished everything since I was spending the money and because again, we were starving. There was a neighboring patron who we heard complain about the risotto and they were given a plate of mashed potatoes as a replacement as well as a comped meal. I got to try my friend's poke nachos and these were delish. It was a refreshing app. Unfortunately, my friend's salad was drenched in dressing and she was barely able to finish it. While there are things MTN Prime can improve, we left full and generally satisfied. read more

The food was amazing, but the hostess was very unkind. We came in when there were almost no patrons & an hour left, and asked to sit at a booth because my partner has back issues and the wooden chairs are more rigid. She said there were no booths open when we could see 5 booths open. Upon leaving (when all five booths were still empty) I inquired with her asking why she refused to let us in a booth. She said that they were reserved for larger parties. With years of service industry experience between myself and my partner, we both knew she simply did not want to be accommodating as the chances of a nearly empty restaurant getting five parties of four or more customers in the last hour of service is almost zero. The food and our server were both exceptional, but dealing with the discomfort and feeling slighted ruined the experience before we even took a bite, forcing us to fixate on why she would be so stuck up when it costs nothing to be kind. read more

I just have to share that the grilled lemon caper salmon was excellent in flavor, but the fish was maybe 4 bites. It was advertised as 6 oz. No kidding. It comes with asparagus, and the poor asparagus were literally cut in half lengthwise to make them look bigger. Again, tasty but skimpy. Risotto was fine. Filled in the plate. But come on. Please do better. Give us a normal piece of fish please. Charge another 3 bucks. I'll still go back but I'll have to get the burger. Twice the food at 2/3 cost. read more

Went to MTN Prime for brunch today, and everything was awesome! The restaurant is rustic, but very nice and very clean. We were sat by the front windows and the sun was wonderful. Our party of 5 was all very happy with our meals. I had Colorado Benedict, which was the best I have ever had, 3 people had waffles and all said they were fluffy and flavorful, and one person loved their burrito. Beautiful place in the center of town. The Rye Old Fashioned was the best I've ever had. The short rib was melt in your mouth delicious. The stroganoff had homemade pasta and was fabulous as well. I got the ribeye and my husband got the strip. Both were massively under seasoned. My husband's steak was also overcooked. We just did not want to wait another 30 minutes to refire his steak. I think I've reviewed this spot before it's become pretty regular stop for me when heading to the mountains. I went for a super obscure order (for me) which consisted of mashed potatoes, coleslaw and meatloaf but hey the heart wants what it wants. We had a slightly long wait but hopped next door to check out a cute shop which made it easy. There are a good mix of sunny spots and more shaded booths along the back but it's a cozy interior packed with plants and decor with a solid menu. read more
