Honestly, we didn't expect much. We wanted breakfast while out for a drive and we could go north to Nederland or south the Blackhawk. Our destination was closer to the south so we opted for Blackhawk and Lucille Malone's. My experience with casino food has not been great but we figured it would sustain us, at least. Were we pleasantly surprised!! I got a skillet with sausage, hash browns, peppers and scrambled eggs smothered in Colorado green chili (if you've never had it, get it!) and my wife had the breakfast burrito smothered in green chili. Both were excellent! The service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was welcoming and interesting as the location (Gilpin Casino) was originally an historic hotel supposedly haunted by Lucille Malone. Instead of spending big bucks at the high end casino restaurants, I am glad we found Lucille Malone's in the Gilpin Casino. Take a small elevator or the stairs up to a great intimate restaurant! It has a large menu with appetizers, weekly specials, sandwiches, dinners and desserts. We went earlier on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. They had fish and chips for $10.99. We had the everyday special- prime rib, potato, roll, salad and asparagus for $14.99!! It was very good. The 5 or 6 desserts were priced at $5.99. The total for two dinners, two beverages and 2 desserts was less than what we spent for breakfast at one of the high end casino restaurants. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. The restaurant also serves breakfast. I would highly recommend Lucille's! Oh, and except for one special deal, you don't need a player's card to get their low prices! read more

Stopped in to fill our need for energy but with it being Lent for Catholics and you follow the abstaining from meat on Friday's I was looking for a fish option tonight. I was aware of thier shrimp platter which is always a great bargain for $15 but wanted to try the fish plate which is battered cod, and was I pleasantly surprised at how tender it was. I'm not much of a fish guy other than shrimp, crablegs and Lobster. But this was delicious I can't say I would order it as a normal "go to" here because they have other options I really enjoy but I'm really glad I gave it a chance. Still one our favorite places up on the "Hill" Can't go wrong and a little tip if your not happy with your meal as my wife was with hers as her wings were overcooked don't be afraid to let them know they will make it right! read more

Great price and good food. My steak was cooked correctly and the fried shrimp was also very good. Our waiter was also very kind.

I shared the prime rib special with the added the shrimp with my wife and it was more than both of us could eat. The Blue Cheese dressing was amazing. Stopped for a late lunch. Ordered a glass of wine, then ordered lunch. Our server asked how our beverages were and we said we'll order another. She said you can't, I have to wait a half hour before you order another. I thought it was a joke. That being said the burger was good and our server was very nice but not really knowledgeable about the laws and area. read more

Everything was top notch here. We were greeted before we reached the top of the stairs...we had the special of the day-fried shrimp and added the most delicious wedge salad. We were searching for a lunch spot that was both within walking distance of our hotel and would not break the bank! This was highly recommended on Yelp so we gave it a shot! It was okay... I shared the prime rib and shrimp. Salad dressing was awesome. The plate pretty good. This 12 year old palate likes everything that is not exotic in any way. So prime rib was safe.y mom had lobster tail, more like rubber tail. Way over cooked but what can you expect for $21 with a steak. Would I go back, maybe. Staff was nice. read more

Tasty and affordable spot. Service was quick and friendly. For the total of 28.96 we had tons of left overs between the two of us. Which is unfortunate because we are unable to reheat food at our hotel. I ordered the mushrooms Swiss burger and comes with fries. The burger was cooked perfectly and the bun was soft and toasted. My husband had the loaded potato and fried shrimp. We could have split that meal and would be full. It came with 18 shrimp! with lemon and sauce. Although the loaded baked potato wasn't as loaded as anticipated. Everything was still good. I did have a cup of creamy leek soup. It was delicious! Overall not bad considering the limited restaurant options when staying at one of the casino hotels. We would come back and share a meal. read more

Good joint. Straightforward American grub. Had the Cuban sammich and it was pretty good for Colorado. Having had real Cuban sandwiches in south Florida, it doesn't compare, but a good effort for Colorado. The service was good and everyone there was pleasant and friendly. I have no clue why people have rated this place so high! It literally is one of the saddest restaurants as far as ambiance. Upon entry, the carpet alone made me want to follow Lucille herself right off the second story balcony (will get to that at the end). Looking around the place at the customers, I felt like I was at a 1970 church revival. The menu was expansive, and the special was a $12.99 prime rib with two sides. I decided to go for it even though a prime rib should never be under $20-30 in my opinion or I will assume something is severely wrong with it. My friends reminded me it's a casino so they are trying to draw people in with cheap prices. Fair point. Speaking of friends they got the surf n turf and the hamburger. Listen. The prime rib was actually slightly better than the cheap price. My friends said the burger was "fine" and the surf n turf was "below average". Server was super nice and apologetic for the few things that he forgot and we had to remind him to grab for us. We took a piece of cheesecake for the road. As we were leaving, I asked my friends who Lucille Malone was I wonder, and the lady checking us out had the story. Lucille threw herself off the balcony after her man got run over by a wagon and died. And the lady let us go to the balcony where this happened! Lucille, honey, no man is worth jumping off this balcony for ... but that carpet ... oof maybe that's why she jumped. I'm basically giving this place two stars for the history alone! You walk into the Gilpin Casino in the old Gilpin Hotel located in Black Hawk, CO and go to the 2nd floor to Lucille Malone's. We had dinner here a year ago and are back in the area again. The prime rib last year was amazing and did not disappoint this time. Prices have risen, and the quality is just as good. We decided to come back for breakfast and it was every bit as good. I had the Southwest Skillet and my wife had the breakfast burrito. They were both topped with pork green chili, awesome!Both were very, very good and less than $10 each. She worked through our custom order like a pro and took extreme care and attention to every detail. You're thinking generic casino diner. I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but the BLT was unexpectedly really good. I mean, I ordered it thinking, even a casino diner can't mess up a BLT, right? I have a slight gambling problem, but you know what makes it worth it? When I can cash in on my free comps and enjoy a meal at Lucille Malone's! I don't gamble too often at the Gilpin or the Lodge, but I think I will start more because of this restaurant. It's no frills, but I can get a steak AND a lobster tail for about $18. EIGHTEEN FREAKING DOLLARS! Is this heaven? I think it might be. Along with 2 sides. I go for the baked potato and veggie of the day. Oh, and that salad bar. I love a good salad bar. Chock full of all the usual healthy fixings, along with ambrosia salad (gross), jell-o (decent), and BEER CHEESE SOUP. UNLIMITED BEER CHEESE SOUP (when available). Dang, I might be from Wisconsin because I love creamy beer cheese soup. I'm not really from Wisconsin, but it wouldn't be the worst thing if I could eat beer cheese soup every day. Oops, I went off on a tangent, and I think that I have exhausted my use of CAPITAL LETTERS for one review. The service is spot on (think dinery type wait staff who know how to take care of you), along with decent prices that won't break the bank (particularly if you don't gamble much). I was seated and served quickly, and went with a chicken sandwich and fries. The cajun-type spices added a really good zing. Everything was great. I used to work at the casino 10 years ago and raved how delicious my dinners were late at night. It was wonderful to come back today and sink my teeth into Lucille Malone's amazing Bacon Cheese Burger; that with my fries and holy crap the lemon water oddly enough. I wish I remembered the young ladies name who served us as I've never had someone come back immediately after taking my order to ask if either of us liked mayo with our burgers. Not would you like ketchup or mustard, but hey, I already know what I was gonna bring what DIDN'T I think of and BAM she nails it on the head. Her service was impeccable, not just to the customers coming in off the street, but she also provided amazing servive to the staff eating lunch as well. I ordered a steak to dine in and wanted to order a different side meal to go. Not only am i not allowed to-go order, customers "not allowed to order more than one entree." That's Absurd! Even if I only ordered one meal and wanted to take the rest home, it's not allowed. You'd have to roll it up in a napkin and sneak it out in you purse/pocket. They literally hate money. -5 stars. We love locally and have eaten here for 25 years with family and friends. The staff is friendly and the dining room is clean...HOWEVER, we were told tonight that you can only order 1 meal per person. My husband and I were going to share the shrimp platter (which is only offered as an entrée) as an appetizer and then order our meals. My husband was going to order a breakfast meal and wanted to add biscuits and gravy, but they don't do them á la carte, so he was fine to pay for both entrees. We were told "no, only one entree per person since they don't allow you to take food to go". We explained that we would not be taking any food to go and that we are the ones paying cash for the entrées, so it should be our choice as the PAYING customer to order what we'd like, but that is their policy and they denied us to order anything beyond the 1 entree. Needless to say, we left and are now enjoying dinner down the street. We are very disappointed in the Gilpin making an unnecessary policy like this and expecting their employees who live and work off of tips to have to enforce a policy like this with their customers.
