My daughter's Corolla broke down while she was out of town, and she had it towed to the nearest open shop, Firestone of Carpentersville, IL. It needed a gearshift cable, and they also put ball joints on one axle. With a final bill of nearly $1700, I took the invoice to my mechanic and discovered this: cable costs $275 retail from Toyota, and Firestone charged $561. Book time on repair is 2 hours, and they charged $362. (When I called, they claimed their book time showed 2.5 hours at an hourly rate of $140, which is still just $350.) Ball joint was similarly overpriced. To add insult to injury, the light to the gear shift no longer worked after they finished repair. Since they were so far away, I will just get that fixed by my mechanic. When my daughter told me it was at Firestone I was concerned based on previous experiences, but I didn't imagine it would be this bad. read more

Great location. Wife got a flat at the gas station up the road. I got her to drive it super slow on the way there. We ended up getting all 4 tires replaced (long story) - but necessary, and I had them get an alignment done too as I knew it needed one. I used to be a mechanic (actually worked at a FireStone 9 years ago or so)... this location was just as great. - only thing I miss about not workin at a shop is being able to do this stuff for free myself. Lol. Anyways - They ended up getting me back on the road the same day which was amazing considering original plan was a few days (which would have been fine). Good crew - masks weren't needed as well, so my support is with this place to the fulest, done fast, right, and I'm happy. Cost was average, nothing crazy. People complaining from years ago always do the "my mechanic can do it cheaper" "my mechanic could do it faster" well go to them then? Why are you here? Shops will be more expensive, it's a business! It can take days for simple repairs. Bolts are seized, parts break, etc. Be more kind people. (Coming from a mechanic and service writer, I know what it's like to be under there and fixing things on a rusted out car that you neglected to wash during the winter.) Lol. Anyways great location. Got scammed. Charged me for a break inspection when break inspections are suppose to be free. Gave me a quote on my breaks and said I need to replace all of my breaks including break pads and routers which is going to cost around $1200. I went to a body shop and it only cost me $200, and they told me I don't need to replace my routers. I'm pretty sure Firestone didn't even check my breaks and just wanted me to replace everything for money. Will definitely not be coming here again. Management needs to do better in being honest with their customers. read more

I made a 1:30 appointment to check my tire for a nail and put more air in it. 30minutes later I asked how much longer I was going to wait and was told it would be another 25 minute wait. If your that busy then have enough employees working to cover all the appointments. read more

I would recommend this Firestone to anyone. I passing through the area from out of town when my cars battery and alternator died. The only location open on a Sunday was this Firestone and they were able to get me in right away. The gentleman that helped us at the front desk was also super pleasant and helpful. All in all we were able to get back on the road in just a few hours and we're so grateful for this Firestone! read more

Brought my car in to check for leak and to fix intake. They ended up doing a quick fix for the intake that came undone on the way home and said my transmission fluid leak was an engine oil leak... the fluid isn't even the same color... Only reason 2 stars instead of 1 is customer service rep. helped me figure out engine code issue without any fuss or charge and was very nice. Will never return here. Although they're nice, they don't know what they're doing. read more

Went for oil change and basic brake job(rear only). Dropped car off at 8am as discussed the night before and heard nothing til 1pm when I was called telling me I also need lifetime alignment and all new tires with a total bill of 1200$...so where to start? Not only was I upset it took so long to be called but when they do call it's to try to upsell me instead of tell me my car is ready. At 1pm when they finally call they hadn't even started on my car...instead he told me it'll be ready around 6pm! 10 hours for an oil change and rear brakes??? Are you serious??? So after picking my car up and spending $580 for alignment, rear brakes, and oil change, I realize two days later I have a huge nail in my tire and it's circled with chalk...if you found a nail in my tire and took the time to circle it you think someone would've notified me(may have helped sell me the tires) but instead you took my $580 and rushed me out the door...then after several weeks I pop my hood to change a wiper arm and find I'm missing my master cylinder cap!!!!!! Maybe if you weren't too busy trying to sell me and focused on the job I'm there paying for, I'd be a satisfied customer!! And no help from Matt the manager...all he seems to say is "bring it up and I'll look at it" like I'm still driving around without a master cylinder cap!! What's there to look at Matt?? The damage has been done so some understanding and or accountability might go a little further than your condescending attitude!!! AleAvoid this store!!! UPDATE!! Been promised from GM Ray they'd take care of it and send me coupons like that'll make it ok and a month later I got no coupon and no follow up! I swore I was never going back to Firestone and sure enough I did...they didn't put a bolt washer back on after the oil change so there's a huge oil leak on the driveway. NTB is baling me out, lucky I noticed the oil splotch or I'd be half way to Colorado and the engine would run dry of oil and then I'm replacing the engine. Idiots, I'm so upset. RUN away from this place! I've done minor work on my own cars so I have a halfway decent knowledge of them. A few years ago they tried to sell me new tires saying that my were really bad. I told the manager that they were bought at that store and that they had a mileage guarantee. He said the guarantee didn't apply. When I got home, I measured the tires myself. They had TWICE the tread left that Firestone said they had. Filed a complaint with Firestone in Ohio. Today my 85 year old aunt took her car there. (I didn't know she had gone there.) Called me nearly in tears. Her check engine light had come on. They had found the problem, but told her that she needed nearly $3,000.00 in additional work. Things such as a "battery corrosion package". That on an old battery. They were going to "clean and flush" her brake system and cooling system. Replace spark plugs and just about every filter that the car had. BTW. This car has been meticulously maintained by this woman and has exactly 77,000 miles on it. It's ten years old. This place is THE reason why some auto shops have horrible reputations for ripping people off. read more

I have been burned by this place a few times, but have not been back in 10 years. I needed a basic alignment so I figured I would give them another chance. Maybe they got their act together, but not the case. I scheduled an appointment. When I got there they told me the lead mechanics were not in so they could not guarantee the alignment. Waited 1 hour and they still did not have it on the racks. What is the point of having an appointment. I work a lot of hours during the week, so the weekends are my only time to get things done. Horrible place, bar none the biggest crooks I've seen of any of tire or auto place. Don't come in here having limited knowledge on car repairs because they will take you to the cleaners. The service? Yeah if you like service with full grown men having pms like attitudes about answering questions, you would like this service. Preferably the guy who works in the front I forgot his name, (tall skinny guy, might be ryan or jared maybe?) but will go back probably just to post his name on here so people know what fool to stay away from, real creep either way. First of all he kept looking at me in a discreet but sensual manager, and swear one time he had his hand on his crotch and was licking his lips when I turned around from my seat and saw him staring at me, suddenly he stopped when I saw him though and looked pretty nervous. Either way I felt really uncomfortable after that and got the hell out of there and waited outside. By the time the bill came however I was in for a surprise, $1500 just to replace 2 new struts! Well actually 900 for the 2, but they claimed I needed the back ones too, after I already had them checked out at both meineke and some other local neighborhood place and they both told me the back struts are fine. And the fact that I could feel and tell the back struts were okay from driving. Anyway, they told me I needed 2 new struts which I did not even need. Yeah, try to rip off the person who's trying to give YOU business. Smart move jerkoffs, I will never go to this place again. Or ever to a firestone for that matter, if that's how they conduct business that is. I guess if driving away customers is their goal, they sure have well succeeded driving away one customer, or a few as I seen like only 2 cars in here during a busy time. I went here to get my brakes and rotors changed on my car. Needless to say it ended up taking about 4 and half hours to do the full job. They told me they didn't have all the parts. So they had to order them from a different place. That took about an hour to be delivered...finally..they are going to get me out of here...oop...nope...after another hour of waiting they came in and told me that the parts place brought the wrong rotor...at this point I was nervous because they told me this 15 minutes before they close at 7pm. I thought for sure they were going to make me leave my car over night. But the manager called the parts place and told him he need the right part there NOW. The two workers actually stayed after hours to finish the job. I ended up getting out of there around 830 pm. I was thankful they didn't just quit at closing time and tell me to come back the next day. I would of had no way home from Carpentersville to Lockport (over an hour away). Give them 3 out of 5 stars because this was a careless mistake that should of never happened. read more

Well, been going here for over 15 years for general maintenance. Was happy with them until around 2 years ago. New store manager came in and ever since there is always something very expensive wrong with my car. Last instance was about 6 months ago. I went in for an oil change and brake check. They came back and told me I was going to need approx. $1,000 in brake work done due to the calipers being locked up and frozen. I told them to just make sure I could drive the car out and I would get a second opinion before getting any work done. Took the car to another shop and was told the brakes were fine. Furthermore, this same location during my recent oil change, they rotated my tires and told me my brakes looked fine. How can the same repair shop tell me I need $1,000 worth of brake work done one visit and the next tell me the brakes look fine, when no work was ever done on them? Some creative diagnostics going on there. Long story short, if you just want basic service, oil changes and tires, this place is reasonable. But be ready for the ever present sell job on unnecessary repairs (alignments, transmission flush, etc...). They know people don't crawl under their own vehicles anymore, and prey on it.
