I called on Sunday morning for a rear wheel bearing that just started going bad. They didn't have any openings Sunday, but said if we wanted to bring it down, they would confirm we had a bad wheel bearing. They made an appointment for us for Monday morning after we got there. We were from out of town, so they did tell us if we wanted to leave the car and someone cancelled they could start working on it early. What a great idea, because that's exactly what happened. They finished the job, also had our oil changed on Sunday so we could travel back home on Monday. The entire team there were very nice, explained everything and knew we really wanted the car back Sunday and they made it happen. When we return to visit our daughter in the future we hope our oil changes coincide with the visit and we will use them again. read more

My son brought his Jeep in to have the "Multi-Point" Inspection done. He was told that his Front Driver Side Half Shaft and the Rear Brakes needed to be replaced so he had it done. The problem is that ever since the that work was done, the car has an ongoing rotational "Chirp" which sounds to be coming from the same corner that these wonderful High Skilled Firestone Mechanic's replaced the driveshaft. It's been brought back to them 3 TIMES! All they have done is supposedly find more Billable Work that they suggest to get done(Rear Suspension Upper Control Arms) that they somehow missed during their first "Multi-Point Inspection". And what is really amusing is that all of the Control Arms throughout the Jeep were replaced less than 10k miles ago. So what the did is charge for work to be done, then during re-assembly, didn't assemble correctly. And now, due to not being able to additionally charge to fix their error, won't fix it. This one is particular stands out because I paid them over $1000 to get brand new tires. How does a tire shop get the tires sizes wrong on a vehicle?? They were bigger than my vehicle could support and started to run alongside the top side fender. The heavyset white bald guy who mainly works up front put me out of work for 3 days dealing with this back and forth and almost refused the refund. Several hours later, we never got a call from George, the reject employee from the Lake In The Hills Firestone. We called him and he told us to come and pick up our car. One block away from Firestone, the power steering went out and the brake light went on. Looks like George screwed around with our car again. George was trying to get back at us for leaving him a negative review from the first time he ripped us off from thousands of dollars for repairs that never needed to be done, and George even admitted to this. About two days before Christmas we had to take in one of our vehicles for oil change and to address some wheel noise/squeaking. It turned out that the calibers on all four wheels where shot and one was not functional. The cost to redo the brakes and the calibers was quoted at nearly $1300. I expressed that was alot more money than we wanted to spend especially at Christmas. The crew there called back and said that they found some discounts and coupons that would help reduce the price down a bit further, and after thinking about it, I said go for it. When the vehicle was completed they called and advised me the price was more like $800. I was plesantly shocked and asked why. They explained that they wanted to try and help and they literally took the calibers apart to fix and clean them, and that they were functioning perfectly. Auto Mechanics get a bad rap - especially those working at auto dealerships. However, the team here showed that they are willing to do the work to save a customer money, and I really appreciate it. We have used Firestone Auto Care before for years now and have always been happy. It was just nice to see that our trust in them was so well placed. read more

I had taken my car here for a routine oil change (full synthetic) in May. 3 MONTHS LATER, the engine completely seized and discovered there wasn't a drop of oil in there. The oil drain plug was also stripped, which means they never did an oil change in May (cause there is no way they could have removed that plug). Firestone claims the vehicle burns oil. 5.5 QTS in 3 months??!! Do yourself a favor and find a place with qualified mechanics and ownership. read more

Went in for an oil change and get a rotation and alignment since we have the free lifetime services for the latter two. Got the change and rotation but they found something wrong with a steering part so alignment has to wait. Gave four stars because the estimate was almost $200 for replacing a part that is only $35 at any auto parts store. Will take back for alignment after replacing myself to see how good the rest of the service really is. Let's keep the hopes up! They were easy to deal with, very courteous and professional, however. Make sure you don't mistake this one for the other Carpentersville Firestone . I have been to others fire stones including the one in Algonquin as well as the other one in Carpentersville, and the service at this one is so much better it's like night and day. I believe that the manager Ryan is the difference. The managers at the other places are rude, hostile and do not resolve issues. Ryan takes the time to do the job right, and if there is a problem he takes it seriously and tries to make it right with no excuses. This is not the closest Firestone to our home, but it is worth the drive to me For the excellent service that we receive. read more

Come regularly for my oil changes and FREE tire rotation. As I'm leaving, something told me to confirm my tires were rotated. Sure enough they were not! they'll definitely recommend things that they can make money from you on. Was told some people choose to just rotate them once in a while. Again, probably because I'm not paying for this service and it's now an inconvenience to them. It's disappointing when such a simple job isn't completely fulfilled, makes me think twice about getting anything more complex fixed here. read more

Had a nail of unknown length I noticed in a tire. I made an appointment and spoke to Mike. When I arrived I indicated that I did not think it punctured all the way through but would like. Removed and patched if the tire leaked. The nail was left than 1/4th of an inch..... I offered several times to pay for the time on the lift and was told that since no repair was done it was no charge..... I am still pretty surprised by that. I have an 02 ford escape and it has a lot of issues...after the oil change, they showed me all the issues underneath my car(I wanted to see for myself) and estimates. It took them 2 hours to change out my battery and they still screwed it up. They did not use a battery saver which caused my car to loose all its settings. Also the driver seat was moved all the way into the steering wheel and corrosion from the last battery was all over the engine and my battery sleeve was missing. I go back into the shop and wanted to know why this was happening. I talked to the store manager Mike what a joke. He tells me the reason the seat was moved all the way to the steering wheel is because they were putting in the battery and that's what they have to do some times. I said but you couldn't put the seat where it was before giving it back to me plus you are putting the battery under the hood of the car not in the drivers seat. I asked what happened to my battery sleeve that I had that goes back on the battery he said he did not know and that I should buy a new one. Then after all of that I asked the store manager why my windows didn't work he tells me he didn't know why maybe they will reset them selves. What a bunch of retards and they call them selves certified Auto Techs. So after all that BS I had to take my car to the dealer which is where I should have went in the first place and shell out more money to fix what Firestone broke. Do not ever go to Firestone in Carpentersville they are all dumb shit heads. read more

Then they tell me they called when they did not and no one answered to tell me they did not have an appointment at that time. I have voicemail. No one called. The boss is a dick, dishonest, dishonorable. Their techs didn't inspect my car properly, I brought the car back a second time and I'm told "if there is something we missed in the last inspection with the back wheel bearing then you won't have to pay for this inspection" - Ryan. About an hour later I get a call confirming what I originally suspected, the wheel bearing was bad, so I go to pick up the car, and they still wanted me to pay because they performed the service. Why do I have to pay twice for something they neglected to inspect the first time? Even after I was told I wouldn't have to pay if they 'actually' missed something? He was boasting about how his techs do this for a living and know their way around a car, but an inexperienced 21 year old can do better work in his garage. Always provide information on vehicles and only make recommendations on necessary repairs. Additionally take time to show you the problem and necessary repairs. Auto repair places get a bad rap because most of them just looking to drive up the bill. When you go to the dealer for an oil change you can plan on spending $700 to $1000 on other repairs. FYI our vehicles range from 5000 miles to over 250,000 miles. All on the road and running strong. read more

Auto repair places get a bad rap due to some shady individuals in the industry. No shop is perfect but it's how they handle issues that set them apart from the rest. My wife and I brought our Subaru Crosstrek into Firestone for an alignment. Unfortunately there was a mishap during the first visit. I called the very next morning to schedule a 2nd appointment and complain about the first appointment and the store manager got me in the same day to make the issue right. From the moment I arrived back at the store it was obvious they planned to make everything right. I spoke with the store manager and assistant manager to great lengths as they each insisted I explain exactly what happened during the previous visit. The store manager took it upon himself to realign the vehicle himself and we took several test drives together to make it right. On top of that he gave me 2 free synthetic oil changes and performed one right on the spot as he noticed we needed one. That car requires 100% synthetic and he double checked with me to ensure the right oil was being used. They really impressed me with their level of customer service there regard for making things right. Both managers informed me that these types of mishaps make them mad and that they want to do everything they can to ensure this doesn't happen again in the future. Really appreciated everything they did and they certainly gained my trust. I will be going back. read more
