First American will misguide you and you'll end up paying thousands more out of pocket than they originally tell you. They provide terrible customer service - our claim adjuster does not seem to grasp why we are upset after he made an error and continues to repeat the same unhelpful response over and over. Calls to his supervisor are unreturned. Do not buy your Home Warranty from them. read more

I've always used FAT, though different branches, over the years. I recently learned of a lien despite having paid off the loan over 20 years ago. Nancy and the FIT team did right by me and resolved the title issue that another branch had not properly recorded. Others are so right about this place. If your broker plans on using this title company, tell him/her NO! When I went in to sign the docs, I asked the officer, Nancy, if they do soft-copies and she informs that they can give it to me on a CD and that they will mailed it to me. Well it's well over 2 mths now and I still haven't received anything. When I called, I got to talk to the asst who handled my loan and told her about my request and instead of just following up, she tells me to email Nancy! WTF! Probably like others, I will never get a copy from them now. They had other hiccups with my loan before closing too but don't remember details, just remembered the hassle, like how they miscalculated the interest I owe to my previous lender and calls me one morning telling me I need to come up with the extra money and deliver to them on the same day. So if you are unfortunate in working with them, demand for your hard copies when you are signing it. read more

I used this office a couple of years ago to close a condo sale and received very good service. BUT that has all changed with the change in staffing!!!! I was treated very rudely TWICE in the past 2 weeks by a woman named Margaret when I tried to make deposits for a home purchase in another city handled by another office. The first time it happened, I let it go because I thought it might just be an fluke, but she behaved rudely towards me again today. Their policy for posting deposits for other offices had changed and when I asked Margaret to speak to the person in the other office about how to arrange to make the deposit, she had the nerve to say "I don't have time for this!" That really pissed me off and I called her on her rude behaving and she simply compounded the rudeness by ignoring and walking away from me rather than simply admit she was wrong and apologize for her rudeness. Another staff member tried to "justify" her rude behavior by saying that they were all overworked, but that doesn't wash. That woman and Jenny who finally helped me were pleasant and accommodating. Not so Margaret. The office manager was out today, but I intend to contact her next week to give her an earful about Margaret. I do not recommend that anyone use this office. This is not an indictment of First American Title per se, but If you want to use First American, I recommend that you choose a different office in San Francisco to do business with or you may receive the same poor treatment! read more

If there had been 0 stars thats what this title company would have got. For me closing on my home should be an exciting feeling. These guys couldn't even provide me with copies and it felt like I was hassling them to send my docs back in. They pointed me and the notary to a fed ex box when we requested to send docs off. Needless to say they need some manners on how to talk to the public. Telling me to send it off myself. The manager was apologetic and rude at the same time. Needless to say . This title company is completely incompetent. Not only do they not understand how real estate transactions are handled, they make up rules as they go along and are not to be trusted with anything they say. My mother and I unfortunately had to work with them as the seller used them and they caused a three month delay to the closing due to their misreading of the documents and it required a real estate lawyer, threatening to sue them, to get them to cooperate with the mortgage company. You should stay away from this place. They are not professional, they lie and they are the most incompetent group of workers in the business. Miscalculations in the thousands. Extremely inept service. No help for a first time buyer. When you are purchasing property worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, it's not great to have an incompetent help during the process. Even as a first time buyer, I had to figure out that they had made mistakes, had wrong addresses for couriers and were not responsive. (Didn't let me know what day and method payments were to be made). Only reason they get 2 stars is that the deal finally went through. read more

Worst in Northern California! Under no circumstances should you use this company. They disclosed private information to a 3rd party that threatened to totally derail a major real estate deal. The staff is completely untrustworthy and lazy, not to mention rude. I've used them twice for two separate deals. The first time, they were merely rude and lazy. I know what your thinking: why would I go back to them after such an unpleasant experience? Well, I got talked into it by my real estate agent. He assured me that it was a one-time incident and that this time it would be all good. Big mistake. The second time, they divulged private info about the impending closing of my deal to a private lender whom I had considered borrowing from before I discovered clauses in the contract that could have potentially ruined me. Needless to say, I will never, ever, EVER do business with First American again. I'm also finished with my real estate agent. You have been warned. read more

Don't go to this place. They messed up my grant deed title/claim and refused to correct for me despite multiple attempts over one year. Even the county says title company should help to correct. I have used this office once as it was picked by the seller for my first house purchase in May 2009 and it was a horrible experience. First, my mother and I had to assigned the signing process twice because they made a mistake in dating the documents. Second, their staff does not answer question as far as title goes as the property I purchased had a split ownership, one was transferred to the previous owner but the other 20% from a 2nd mortgage was transferred to some trust which is from info supplied by First American. However, there is no transfer of the 20% to the previous owner so hopefully I don't get haunted down for that 20% at a later date because I am supposed to have 100% ownership of the property. In any case, they photocopied all the documents before I got there on May 1, 2009 and handed me the copies and ofcourse, these do not contain signatures so they promised to provide a PDF and/or CD-ROM of all the documents with signatures and ofcourse they have not done so. As of right now, I have no proof of ownership at all and my copies are from May 1, 2009 before the signatures were on the documents. So be very careful and it seems like you might need a attorney just to get on their case. So everytime I e-mailed them, I will not get a response at all so it's like they are under the federal witness protection program or something. read more
