Been a patient here for years. Left and returned after a few years out of convenience. Now they are strictly a GP practice and you must be a patient - but, try to get an appointment and you often get turned way. Had covid; couldn't get an appointment for follow-up meds after having confirmed by test at an express clinic that I indeed had Covid. Had to arrange a telemedicine appointment for the very next day because they could not take care of me the day I was diagnosed, and no one showed up on the call!!! I dealt with the covid on my own as best as I could; then my family got sick as well. FIVE days later I get a call to see how I am. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I didn't get any help or meds b/c they couldn't see me, and are calling to follow up how I am? What a joke. Then I caught the flu - called for an appointment - can't see me. Telemed? Can't see me. I went to the walk-in clinic instead, and they saw me and took care of me. This spring, had a sinus infection - they can't see me, can't telemedicine me. I can see where people might wanna give this place one or two stars but it's really all about convenience. They have great hours and even if you have to wait a little bit, you know you're going to be seen. Normally I come here for everything, strep throat, cough, I even came here for a hair splinter that was stuck so deep in my foot I couldn't get it out by myself. They got the job done! A few days ago, my mom cut her foot on some glass and she said let's just go to the medi-center. I honestly didn't even know they did stitches. Off we went, they saw us within about 40 minutes. Not too bad seeing as they had a real emergency patient being rushed to the hospital. Yes, you wait your turn. Even with an appointment. I understand the concept and I live with it, what's the use in complaining? I know everyone in the room is sick and we all just wanna see a doctor. The girls behind the counter are friendly enough, it's usually quick to sign in. There's some AWESOME nurse practitioners here, super friendly and helpful. The doctors are usually a little more in and out and I feel that's everywhere as well. It's hard to find a very good attentive doctor. I'm always prescribed what I'm needed and feeling better in a few days. Worth the visit if it's something small! read more

The doctors and nurses were fine. Here's the thing. Every time I leave a doctor's office, I ask them, "What do I owe you?" and pay it before I leave. Months after my last visit, I received a bill, over $200, and let's just say our household accidentally paid it. A few months after that (and we had not been back, I rarely go to MDs), I received a bill stating that oh they found something and we owe them another seventy-something. I called them, they said yes indeed I do, I said go fly a kite. Well, now months later I get a message it had been put to collections. This is how to bully, it appears. Ok, fine. First Care has been my primary doctor for years. I called to make an appointment because I have been vomiting after I eat certain foods to see what the problem is. They told me they can't see me because I haven't been there since 2020!! So because I haven't been sick in a year you remove me from their primary patient list? Shows how much you care for your patients First Care. Also, my boyfriend had a sinus infection (diagnosed elsewhere) and they refused to see him because he wasn't a primary. So who are you seeing? You don't see patients with symptoms, you don't see walk-ins, you remove primary's from list if not seen after some time.. so who are you seeing.. you just sit at the office all day? I gave this place a try when I was the sickest I've been in years. If I could give zero stars I would. Waiting room was empty, yet the girl at the front desk was rude and short with me. I thought waiting time would be short since I was the ONLY person in the waiting room and there were NO CARS in the parking lot, but I was wrong. I waited over an hour to see the doctor, who was condescending and basically told me there was nothing wrong and my issue would get better on its own. I felt humiliated and ridiculed and I left in tears. I went to another doctor the next morning, who gave me a real diagnosis and treatment. Never again. I've been coming here since I was 16 and this is the best primary doctor office I've ever dealt with. For starters My whole entire family goes here including close friends and coworkers. I've seen all doctors but my primary is DR Villas. She is an amazing, caring and straight forward. She won't sugar coat anything and will go straight to the issue. I would recommend this place to anyone! OH and did I mentioned they are open 7 days a week! Oh yes! So if you are a walk in person they take you right away. read more

I called this facility 5 times yesterday looking for resolution of my mothers prescription....Have had problems in the past with the receptionist giving me incorrect information...they sent the prescription into the pharmacy....and continued to tell me the medication was sent to the Pharmacy.....when in reality it had never been sent in and the wrong information was given to me.....apologizing and changing her story at the end of a long day dealing with this situation......So the reality is that I have had problems in the past with this situation....Dr.Ambrosio Owner of the facility had the nerve to call me repeating constantly not to call his office and abuse his staff.....after stating this 50 plus times like a lunatic.....He never asked me why I had to call so many times.....and is totally clueless as to the history behind the phone calls....if you get the attention needed you only have to call once.....he said he never met when my mother would go in to his facility......and suggested that I possibly may want this medicine for myself!!!! Is he for real!!!! Dr.Ambrosio I have been to that facility with my 90 year old mother many.....many times!! You are totally clueless when you address people.....With this pandemic you stated that my mother should go to the facility.....as a I said she is 90 and is fearful to leave the house....he told me he did not care he continues to see patients in his facility....he was extremely rude!!!!! Terrible place. I went with sinus infection on Friday, was seen by nurse practicing Jennifer (not even a doctor!) She told me to "wait out" and I "should " be better. Told her that I have a long history on sinus problems and waiting won't do any good. I was told if I won't feel better to call in and they send in the prescription over the phone. So I called today, feeling really bad (just as I predicted) was told I need to come in as they need to re-evaluate! I just spent $25 on my co-pay on Friday, now I have to pay again! This place is one big scam! Squeezing money from sick people. Now, I have to find doctor who would see me just be for the holidays and spend another $25 on a co-pay. If you don't have anything else going on in your life, other than waiting around to be seen, by all means feel free to visit this place. The concept of an appointment is lost on them, as you'll end up waiting up to an hour or more to be seen. This is not an emergency care facility, as the nice young man explained to another customer. Rather it is a primary care facility, and they should have a better handle of their process. This place is so disorganized and being that it's a medical office I would expect them to know a little about treating a patient. All I need is blood work, had an appointment for 10:30 am and it's now 12:20pm and just sitting here waiting for blood work to be done. They insist that I need to see the doctor, when I already have and this is just a follow up for the insurance. I've already received my results for the first bloodwork and all is fine. Just need a follow up. It's their way of charging the insurance more and not caring about my time waiting. I came in on Monday after work telling the Dr., I had sinus congestion, chest congestion and a cough. The Dr told me it was viral and that the US Government wants you to be sick for two weeks before giving antibiotics. The Dr then proceeded to tell me that i had the flu and she was giving me Tamiflu. I repeadetly told her it's a sinus infection not the flu. She wouldn't give me an antibiotic. I went to another Urgent Care was treated with respect and I have Bronchitis. Have been going here for urgent sick care and occasional well visits for the past 8 years. Have no major health issues so I decided to use for annual physical again this year. I do not like Dr. Schmalz he is rude and condescending in the past so I a made an appointment when he would not be the attending physician. The female dr older lady who I saw was not rude but very unknowledgeable, awkward and uncomfortable. "Well ehhh idk could be ehhh maybe ehhh" then said some random names of conditions then never bothered to explain what it was or causes or effects. Absolutely horrible. I was there on May 27 and still have not been able to speak to a nurse after 3 messages left. I was at your facility on Sunday, July 8, 2018 with my dear friend. She was gravely ill. She had been experiencing disorientation, forgetfulness, urinating on herself, difficulty breathing, walking, high blood pressure along with a few other symptoms. Upon the examination of the PA, during the neurological, my friend didn't know what year it was initially, didn't know the President, could not spell backwards, could not count backwards, her blood pressure was elevated, 190/90, and high creatine in her blood. The PA, jennifer Crawford consulted with Dr. Schmalz regarding her results of neurological and previous blood work and decided NOTHING WAS EMERGENT ENOUGH TO GO TO ER. I was furious. Strongly recommended she get an MRI ASAP for she could be experiencing mini-strokes. My friend as per my request and other family members went to the ER yesterday. She has been diagnosed with BLEEDING ON THE BRAIN!!!! I will be reaching out to other authorities to report this facility and these two employees. read more

I don't know much about their medical care but the little I do know I hear that the treatment is good. Their staff however is as rude as imaginable. 7/6/12- I dropped my Mom off for a routine doctor visit for a minor issue at 7:20 on a Saturday. I told the staff to call me when she was ready to be picked up. Twenty minutes later they called me three times in four minutes and left a message telling me they were calling the police if I didn't answer my phone the next time. "Answer your phone the nurse screamed into my voicemail" . I arrived back at the office at 7:55 and picked my mom up less than 45 min from when I dropped her off. I went home only to find out that the police were dispatched to my house having been told I stranded my mom at the office. I assume that the nurse's Saturday night cocktail at 8:01 pm was so urgent that it was a police matter. I would suggest the Doctors invest in a nurse and or staff that has a little common sense and professionalism. Rude, unprofessional and childish for the conduct of a nurse. read more

Not a good experience. Was greeted by a young lady who did not greet me in any manner. Never even cracked a smile. Above normal wait time once I was brought in to the examination room. The woman who took my vitals was personable. Waited so long for the doctor to come in I thought they forgot about me. I listened as the staff chattered and laughed about a 600lb woman. When the doctor came in and I use that term lightly, he asked me why I was there, and gave me a technical term for my condition. I asked him to explain it once again in laymens terms and he repeted the exact same thing again along with giving me the bums rush to follow him as he took me back out to the desk so they could give me a referral to another doctor. If there were a BBB for medical practices, I would contact them. This is by far the worst "medical practice" (I use that term loosely) I have ever been to. The front desk is disorganized and they could care less about the patients and finding them correct help. My mother recently had a stroke and needed a refill of two prescriptions (previously given by her rehabilitation facility), she went to First Care on Friday for a full work up and forgot to mention she needed the refills. I called the office on Saturday morning and asked if she was able to get a refill since she had just been seen, they said no and she needed to come in and be seen again. I brought my mother to the office, we sat for 2 hours just for the nurse to ask us why she was back and that the doctor would give her the two refills. Needless to say, we were furious, there was a miscommunication between staff members, which according to these reviews, happens quite often. When we were walking out, I told the male at the front desk, Harry (who I originally spoke with), that we did not need to come in and clearly there was a miscommunication. The nurse who saw us came up to the front desk and told us "there was no need for a commotion, she said she'd handle it." Mind you, voices were not raised, I was simply letting him know that we just had 2+ hours of our day wasted for literally no reason. It's very clear that the staff cares very little, if at all for their patients. They try to get people in and out just to make a buck. I'd avoid this place at all costs, go to Doctors Express, they at least get people in and out in a reasonable amount of time and you can make your appointment online. read more

I like when I went her and got Dr. Ambrosio because he sees ALL the patients. Every time I have gone and the woman doctors are there you never see them. The assistant comes in and does the exam and relays the info to her. She has NEVER come in to treat me. How can she make a proper diagnosis when she never sees the patient. She just sits in he chair in front of the computer. I have since stopped going there and now go to the urgent care that opened in Lyndhurst by Shop Rite. Like it much better and you are always seen by a doctor. Went in First Care to have a wound treated. Waited over 1.5 hours to meet with Dr. Schmalz for literally a 2 minute appointment after being told wait time was about 20 min. Clearly have an open wound on my head and he barely glances at it before making a recommendation to see a specialist. Does not offer to take a closer look or even offer to cleanse the wound. When I asked him to clean it he smirked and said "isn't it clean already?". Offered to refer us to a specialist for the wound and when we got to the front desk he had not referred message to receptionists and went into see other patients while we had to wait around for more ..as if 1.5 hours for him to barely look at the wound wasn't long enough. I will definitely not be returning to First Care for any other treatment. I would also not recommend this office to anyone looking for treatment as well. I came to this place because I had severe back pain. As I walked into the office, I limped to the front desk. I signed my name, and handed the lady my insurance card. Her responce was to "Have a seat and when I CALL YOU, YOU CAN SHOW ME YOUR CARD" (There was only one other patient in the room) (I am a 50 year old man while the lady herself is about 20) I nodded and took my seat. About 5 minutes later, the lady screams, "EXCUSE ME. EXCUSE ME. I SAID EXCUSE ME.I CANNOT READ YOUR SCRIBBLE AND CANNOT PRONOUNCE YOUR NAME." I limped back to the desk, and handed her my driving license, in hopes that maybe she would be able to read that. She looked at my license, and asked me where I lived. I am pretty sure that my driving license contains that information. When I said this, she told me not to be rude, because she was doing her job and that if I were rude, she would call the police. After that, she told me to get out, and then pointed at my son and told him to get "that thing" ("that thing" being me) out of here. I am wondering how this company hired such rude people to "take care" of the ill and pained. I am pretty sure those who hired these people are exactly the same vicious, impolite and rude creatures who practice the same thing. read more
