tl; dr: At my house within an hour of my first call, fixed everything perfectly, didn't try to upsell me things I didn't need, and tuned up my door opener so it runs better and quieter. Highly recommend this company.
One of the springs on my garage door snapped yesterday evening, leaving the door stuck partially open. With a busy back-half of the week, and plans out-of-state for the weekend, I needed to find somebody to fix the door so that I could secure the house, and I really needed someone that could do it same-day, because I wouldn't be home the rest of the week to deal with it. I called all the bigger companies first, and despite most of them prominently stating "Same Day Service Guaranteed!" all over their websites, none of them could take care of this for me today.
Then I called First Choice Overhead Door and spoke with Armand. He understood my problem, and he was at my house in less than an hour. To say I was surprised by this is an understatement--I literally spent longer on hold today with other companies than I did waiting for him to come and fully resolve my problem.
When he arrived, he gave me a very competitive price on replacing both springs and pulleys. He explained that, since the springs are of similar age, and one had just failed, that the other was probably not long for this world.
He recommended replacing them both at the same time, as well as the pulleys. I was very pleased with the price he quoted. Another bigger company quoted a similar price for just a single spring.
I also had him quote replacing the opener, since it's pretty old and very loud. The price was right in line with my expectations from talking to a handful of other companies this morning. He noted that the chain on my opener had a good bit of slack on it, which often indicates a problem. He told me he wanted to take a look at the current opener before I decided on whether to replace it outright.
The crew had the springs and pulleys replaced inside of 30 minutes. He also lubricated the door, moved the curved door arm to the right place (it was not installed right, apparently, in the first place), and tightened up the loose chain on the opener. Now, the door opens further than before and it's massively quieter.
I appreciate that Armand did not try to push me to upgrade the opener. Instead, they tuned it up for me, and saved me some money. Most people would have seen the loose chain and loud opener as a way to up-sell a new, fancy unit. But instead, he did what was best for me, and just made what I have work correctly. In my experience as a homeowner, this is not at all a common occurrence in the market for contractors. For that reason, I am even more impressed with my experience today.
Eventually this opener will die or I'll decide I want some new features, and it's not even a question about who I'll call to do the work. These guys will absolutely be getting my business again in the future.
This was a great experience top to bottom, and I would highly recommend them.tl; dr: At my house within an hour of my first call, fixed everything perfectly, didn't try to upsell me things I didn't need, and tuned up my door opener so it runs better and quieter.
