After nine days of construction, I have a beautiful new shower and bathroom. 9 DAYS, for a bathroom with a square footage of 40 sq ft.. I was promised the job would be done in four days.
I could not be more proud of it but I seriously have to doubt my worthiness of choosing contractors.
. It's on the floor, every surface of every exposed surface in my house, my dogs, on my hands, in my mouth, I could go on and on.
For nine, actually eight days, I got up, got ready and made sure I prepared for them to arrive and go to work.
The contractor and man in charge is a younger, very pleasant gentleman. Very neatly groomed, clean and believable. He speaks beautiful English but it is evident his first language is Spanish.
My entire home inside is destroyed with dust, styrofoam, plastic, dust, pieces of tile, grout, dust, ceramic pieces, wood, dust, insulation and sheet rock. They left a mess in my flower beds, sidewalks and driveway.
It's not really dust, it's thicker. It's on the floor, every surface of every exposed surface in my house, my dogs, on my hands, in my mouth, I could go on and on.
I had three contractors I found on Home Advisor who came to my home and gave me bids. This contractor bid the lowest and convinced and impressed me enough to give him the job. He advised me it would me done in 4 days.
Keep in mind my house is 1147 sq ft with one bathroom so I told him he couldn't yank my toilet and leave it out for more than a day.
On Monday evening (day 8) I went into the bathroom to document all the flaws which would have to be fixed before I would write a check.
The contractor had shower door specialists come on Sunday but the bench they built in the shower two inches too long so the whole bench had to be rebuilt and the shower door people left.
It turns out the contractor, Saul from First Restoration OK, didn't want to splurge for a $90 drill bit to install the doors himself. He changed his mind and the doors were installed Tuesday. I'm not sure if they are properly installed yet as I have only used it once.
His employees, one was his father and I am uncertain who the other gentleman was, showed up on time every day except one, worked like crazy, no smoke breaks, no drinking breaks, just work and they left around 5PM. Neither spoke a word of English.
He wanted paid Monday night (day 8) and the shower doors were not even installed! I told him absolutely not. I went off and showed him pictures I had taken of all the flaws and missed areas and things which would have to be completed before I would write a check. He was not happy, I was furious
I had to spend $200 to hire cleaning crew to come in to clean the inside of the house top to bottom. They specialize in new built homes and clean them for realtors to show. I had to spend an additional $40 to have my dogs groomed.
My front yard, flower beds and driveway were left untouched and are covered with ceramic tile, sheet rock, green board drywall, and where there are cut wood shavings. I will probably have to hire someone with a power washer to clean the mess and hope my perennial flowers will not be adversely effected. They also left the outside faucet connected in 19 degree weather.
The owner/manager/contractor lied to me four times. I could go on but I hope you understand my frustrations and the inattentive behavior of the contractor. I took MANY pictures to back up my story. If your interested, please do not hesitate to contact me.
The morale of the story:
My recommendation would be to not hire this company. Pay money for a the difference so you can voice your concerns to the people who do the work, rather than having to call the contractor and hope he translates your concerns correctly.
The final blow: After I wrote the check and the crew left, I want in to inspect the bathroom and realized the failed to paint one whole wall. This type sub par performance is unacceptable. I am very sorry I chose this company. read more
