I hired this company to diagnose an issue with my RV slide and paid $200 for the service call…read more Their conclusion was that the motors needed to be replaced, and I was told they would follow up with a quote for parts and labor. Instead, I contacted BAL, the manufacturer of the slide system, directly. BAL recommended a retrofit repair kit as the proper fix, which I purchased myself for $160. That kit includes two new motors. Once I had the OEM-recommended parts, I asked this company for a labor-only quote. After multiple follow-ups, they declined to even provide one, stating their technician "has not had good luck" with these retrofit kits and that they were not comfortable performing the repair. That's the part I find most frustrating. The retrofit kit still involves replacing the same motors they originally diagnosed as failed. If they were not comfortable performing the manufacturer-recommended repair, that should have been disclosed upfront -- before I paid for a diagnosis and spent time sourcing the solution myself. I appreciate their honesty in ultimately admitting their limitations, but that honesty came after the fact, not before. In the end, I paid $200, got no repair, no quote, and no clear path forward until I handled it myself. Future customers should ask upfront whether the technician is experienced with their specific slide system and whether they are willing to quote labor separately before paying for a diagnosis.

Not the kind of problem you want to deal with on a trip. I called Nick and he responded right away. He made time to come out the same day. He diagnosed the issue quickly and knew exactly what was wrong. The automatic transfer switch had failed. Instead of delaying the repair, he tracked down the part himself, picked it up, and came back to install it. That level of effort matters when you are on a tight timeline. The repair was clean and professional. Power was restored and my entire weekend was back on track. What could have been a ruined trip turned into a great one. He did not stop there. He worked through the warranty process and made sure the repair was covered. I ended up fully reimbursed by the manufacturer. That saved me money and a lot of hassle. Nick goes above and beyond. He is responsive, knowledgeable, and committed to taking care of his customers. If you need mobile RV service, this is the guy to call. Nick if you see this, I truly apologize for such a late review. My mother in law stills talks about how nice you were and was happy that you stayed for a meal with us!

I live in Simi Valley and he is in West Covina. My problem was not an easy fix, based on all of his suggestions and coaching. He came out to Simi, in the evening and diagnosed my problem. I basically needed a new fridge. He set me up with a place to order, he picked it up and brought it out at 6:45 in the evening and replaced my refrigerator. Oh, there is more. He called my service insurance company and recouped 1/2 of the cost the day my policy expired. In addition, after replacing the fridge, he looked over our RV, got on the roof, gave advice and gave a can of self leveling seem sealer to put on the corners of our roof. All of this was done in the dark. Also had an amazing support staff. Great customer service and we are feeling very fortunate to have had him respond to us. Thank you, Nick

Honestly, this business is in a class all by itself, when it comes to quality of service!…read more Here's how it compares to a NAPA auto parts business that I purchased at recently. At the Napa in Stanton, you are treated like a nuisance, rather than a customer. Buying auto parts is more like pulling teeth. I didn't get what I needed, and I vowed to never go back to that location ever again. Recently, I spoke with Dave here at Smith Powerhouse, on the phone. Not only did he stop and check and make sure he had the filter for my generator in stock. But, he quoted me the price, as well. That's how service should be! Friendly and easy! There simply is no comparison between Dave and other service and parts businesses. It's easy to see exactly why Dave has been in business so long and why he has a long list of satisfied customers. All you need to do is compare them for yourself. At most places, you are simply another problem walking in the door for them to try to satisfy. Most places do a reasonable job. But, the service you receive here at Smith's is simply outstanding. They solve your problem instead of sending you away upset and unsatisfied! I purchased before, and I will continue to purchase again every time I need either parts or service for my generator. Let me save you some time and aggravation by showing you EXACTLY how to best use this business to buy service for your generator. FIRST, before you call, make SURE you know the name and model number of your generator, which is usually located on some sort of DATA PLATE that is attached to the generator. There's not much anyone can do for you if they don't know EXACTLY what you have. So, go out and look and write it down. For example, my generator is an ONAN, made by Cummins, and the model is called MICROLITE. It has a 4000 watt output and the series is KY. They can't help you with parts unless you know the EXACT model number, so be sure to copy it down and have it ready when you call. Next, it's best to have some idea of what is wrong. Because saying "I don't know" doesn't begin to narrow down the problem and it means you will be leaving it up to them to first diagnose your generator. Some suggested problems could be: Doesn't start at all or hard to start. Doesn't run smoothly. No power output. Or, it just needs general maintenance however they see fit. Now, if you have no idea what is wrong, and you say "I dunno" then be prepared to pay a diagnostic fee just to have your generator inspected. What about recent USE? Sitting for years, and covered in cobwebs? Or, used and running a month or so ago? Yes, this company can probably bring a dead generator back to life again! The more details you provide, the better this company will understand your needs. Finally, remember, this is a BUSINESS and in order to stay in business, they must charge enough to make a reasonable profit. So, be prepared to pay for the parts and service that your generator needs. I recently had my generator serviced, and now I'm saving TONS of money on gas because I run this tiny generator engine to make electricity rather than the big V-10 engine in the motorhome. Plus, all my house-current appliances are usable now, and that means my microwave and air conditioner are back in service again. The biggest problem I had was FINDING this place. If I had known about this business, I would have used them YEARS ago and not waited so long to fix my generator. Oh, one last thing. NOTHING mechanical is maintenance-free, despite what they may tell you. So, if you have a generator that you expect to use on a regular basis, then get it INSPECTED at least once a year. More often, if you're using it each and every day, like I do. These Onan generators are pretty reliable, but you do need to do regular maintenance on them. Oil changes and filters. Valve adjustments too. Plus, fuel lines get old and hard from the heat, so you need to change them when they deteriorate. Now that you have a better idea of what to do, you are well on your way to purchasing the parts and service that you need to keep your generator running reliably. And, if you don't have a generator at all, well then, this is the place to buy one and have it installed in your vehicle. If you want house-type power in your vehicle, then solar panels don't even come close to fulfilling that need. All these van-life people try to rely strictly on solar panels and they end up living in the dark and the cold, because solar panels are minimal at best. If you want house-type power, the only way to get it is with a generator! If you are contemplating ANY type of mobile business, having a generator and electric power makes all the difference in the world! A food truck, perhaps? A mobile pet service van? Even a mobile office! Any type of mobile business where house-type electric is needed. This company will make that happen for you. This is my updated review. Roxanne greeted me kindly and informed me that I would need to return later for Allen to inspect the RV. I provided her with the make and model of my RV and asked for a general price range for the services. About an hour later, Roxanne called back and said I would need to bring in the RV and leave it overnight for a $200 inspection. I explained that I am a full-time RV'er, and she scheduled me for an 8 AM appointment the next day. I agreed. Shortly after, Allen called me and said he could only provide an estimate after inspecting the vehicle. While I understood his approach, I simply asked if he could provide a general pricing structure for those specific replacements. His response? "Are you stupid?!" I was shocked by the unprofessionalism. I calmly replied, "Excuse me, sir, please show some respect. I haven't disrespected you; I am just asking for your standard pricing for this service." He then yelled, "You don't tell me how to run my business!" At that point, I decided to take my business elsewhere. If this is how he treats potential customers, I can only imagine the level of care and respect given to their vehicles. To inform others, I've attached the phone conversation as proof. After checking their Google reviews--where they hold a 3-star rating--I realized I should have done my research beforehand. To any future customers, I highly recommend checking reviews and researching businesses before entrusting them with your vehicle.
