UPDATE: Ismael contacted me and is working on resolving the problem with the worker, who apparently had not notified Ismael that he had accepted the job (and the money). The guy seemed capable, but was not. He damaged many of the flagstones, and used the sealing sand with rain on the way (major mistake). The sand was uneven and has been coming out ever since. Some stones have become wobbly and sound hollow now too. I contacted Ismael, who said that it was not "his" worker, just someone who did stonework. I am thoroughly disappointed in the work done. I want the damaged stones replaced, and the sand applied correctly so that it seals well. read more

This review is overdue and well deserved. In January, I hired Ismael and his team to remodel my condo. I solicited several quotes before hiring them and Ismael's price wasn't the cheapest, but it was competitive and he was the best match for my desired work and timeframe. I had them complete a full bathroom remodel, do cosmetic updates to the kitchen, fresh ceiling lighting throughout the unit, add a wood valence to the bedroom window, and repaint the entire unit. Throughout the process, they were very flexible with design changes and the team felt more like a partner who allowed me to collaborate as the project evolved, rather than refusing to budge from a preset plan. I hired Ismael to come in my home to access the mold. He arrived and began his inspection but Once we got to the area of the mold (attic, third floor ceilings) he said that he didn't have a ladder and was told a ladder was here by his brother. His brother never entered my home and used their own ladder to fix the third floor ceiling. So he asked for buckets to stand on to look in the attic (no where near the mold). He didn't offer to return to complete the inspection in the attic and never provided a written inspection to my email that he requested prior to leaving. This was a waste of $50 and I wouldn't have paid had I known we wouldn't receive a report. When I contacted him to ask for an update he said "I did my visit for $50 was my time and visual inspection". What a WASTE! Very disappointing and would not recommend. read more

This is the second project that Ismael and his team did for us. The first, earlier this year, was extending a walk-in closet, by using a recessed wall to enlarge the closet. They put in shelving and even added crown-moulding, an additional touch that we did not even ask for, but made the job that much more beautiful and professional! They charged a reasonable price and finished the job in a timely manner. This second job was building a bar. We showed Ismael a variety of pictures from the internet, each detailing one aspect of how we wanted our finished project. He took all of those ideas and images and created a phenomenal final project! He suggested other features and ideas that made the bar even better than we envisioned! Mixed results. I hired Ismael and team to seal a wall, install drywall, and paint in the basement. During the job, when it came time to do the painting, we expanded the painting to include all walls in the basement rather than just the wall they installed drywall on, and agreed on a price for this added work. The first part of the work was good. The wall was cleaned up and sealed, and drywall installed. The painting, not so much. The paint has alligator cracking in many places, and after a couple of attempts to fix it, they gave up. In their words, "I answer for the wall that was made new." I have since discovered that instead of buying the paint brand I selected, they did a color-match with a different brand. When I test it out by painting on top of the cracked areas with my original paint choice, it works and does not crack, however, now I can see that their paint is slightly different in color and is also a different finish (flat instead of matte). read more

Disappointing. First off, they did a nice and fast job installing the cabinets. We have a small kitchen downstairs and they were able to replace them all within a day. There were also some unforeseen elements that they were also able to resolve that same day, which was great. I am docking off three stars however because there was a lot of miscommunication, lack of communication, and a leak that was never repaired. First, when they bought the cabinets, they didn't tell me that there were no handles on the cabinets. It was only after they had replaced them, that they told me I would need to buy handles and pay for the additional labor...I was looking for cheaper cabinets, but had I known these did not have handles, I obviously would've asked for ones with handles... Then they turned the water off and said that they would be back to fix it another day with the additional things they couldn't finish (one of our pipes was rusted and leaking so they recommended we replace it) I had to email, call, and text several times to get them to come back and they cancelled the appointment less than 30 minutes before they said they would come, then came an hour and a half later the following day. I understand that things happen, but this is where the lack of communication comes in. I had to constantly follow up with them and repeatedly ask them to come back and finish the job. Oh, and the a leak was never fixed. He said he fixed it but it's still leaking so now I have to find someone else to come take a look. They're nice people but extremely disappointing considering all these great reviews. read more

Fixed a leaking basement and put in vinyl plank flooring. Looks great, cleaned up pretty well when done and charged a fair price.

Unprofessional, not dependable, and work that did not meet agreed upon expectations. They walked out on us without finishing the job. We hired First Class Remodeling to repair and paint our entire upstairs walls and trim and fix water damaged ceilings. We were very clear in communicating that what we wanted was the imperfections in our walls and trim to be sanded and smoothed and then painted. Upon reviewing their work in the first few rooms, some was done well but when it comes to painting we found it to be rather sloppy in places and most of the imperfections in the wall and trim were just painted over, not sanded and smoothed first as requested and agreed upon. We found lots of drip marks and other lazy/rushed painting flaws. We spoke to him about our concerns with the quality of the work and marked the many areas we wanted corrected. He laughed and called it "crazy" and said he did not want to work with us anymore because we expected too much and we were too particular. He said DC homes are old and have many flaws, we said yes we know, that is what we hired you to repair! He said his team loses money when they have to do touch ups, we said said we just wanted it done right and we are happy to pay whatever it cost for quality work. He still decided to walk out on us without completing the project, leaving us with half finished walls and scrambling. They were rarely punctual - over an hour late - and the most unprofessional moment (other than quitting) was when we got a text at 11:45pm one night that they were not going to show up the next morning as planned because he needed paint color for a final room that we owed him. We were asleep and awoke to that text and sent the paint color at 630am. He ignored all of our calls and texts that morning as we tried to reach out and make sure he had what he needed to come work on the house as scheduled - he blew us off. The only positive is they didn't charge us for the remainder we owed them when they decided to quit - although we would have honestly rather paid the full quote and any additional costs needed to achieve a job done well and put this project behind us. Apparently First Class Remodeling has little concern for customer satisfaction, quality of their work, or this inevitable poor review they were obviously going to receive after an interaction that ended as unfortunately as ours did. read more

We had First Class Remodeling remove a closet for us that included repairs to drywall and a wood floor. Ismael and his team were easy to work with and completed the work on time. The drywall repair was done well, while the floor was average, with the color of the wood slightly off. I had similar wood floor work recently performed on some adjacent stairs made of identical material as the rest of the floor, and another business was able to find a better match for us. The floor repair will be mostly covered by furniture, so it was acceptable. I only wish they reviewed their work better when finished. Two trim pieces on the drywall were left unfinished, and I had to prime and paint one of the pieces, which was easier than rescheduling a couple appointments. Also, some debris from the closet was left in the corner of my driveway for 5 days after they finished, by which time I disposed of it myself, although Ismael coordinated to pick it up despite being sick, which I appreciated. While their work was solid and of good value, the lack of follow through and quality control has me providing just a mediocre review. read more

I needed my entire home updated to place on the market ASAP ( kitchen, bathrooms, recessed lights, painting, carpet, etc.). I had already been screwed over by two contractors beforehand, so I was skeptical ( not to mention the previous work need to be redone so that made my project a little more difficult) but Ismael came through!
