We contacted Harvey with Mistival late in the spring to pursue a remodel of our outdated kitchen. We wanted estimates from multiple places. Harvey was by far the most enthusiastic and attentive in the bidding process. He came in with the best price of the three bids, and offered the best combination of competence and price. From there, Harvey did a fantastic job walking us through the best way to achieve what we wanted (removing a peninsula that cut off the breakfast nook; converting a large, outdated pantry- that used to be used for a washer/dryer- into a coffee bar area; installing some floating shelves). Harvey also pointed us to counter and cabinet vendors that had exactly what we wanted for our new look. Even when we came up with ideas during the renovation beyond the scope of what we originally talked about, Harvey was very accommodating. The Mistival crew did a fantastic job, working as quickly as they could. When we noticed a few smaller issues during the renovation, Harvey and his crew were very fast in getting it corrected as quickly as they could, even with some supply chain issues. Even I had purchased stain for the shoe moulding and they advised it really wasn't going to be a good match ...but they had a can in the truck that would work perfectly ... and it does. Just all around great. Clean up and finish and removal of old carpet terrific. They also took up some carpet on stairs which had oak under the carpet. I called Mistival on Sunday -- on Monday I rec'd an estimate for installing a LVT floor in our sunroom. By wed his team was here at 8am and out by noon -- leaving behind a perfectly installed floor with new shoe moulding stained to match the ebony flooring. I recently had a backsplash installed in my kitchen and Harvey and his team did a FANTASTIC job. I received quotes from five different companies and not only was Mistival very reasonable, they were one of the only companies that really understood my vision and didn't try to talk me out of it because it was going to be a little more labor intensive. More than one other company was a little scared off by all of the cutting that my hexagon tile was going to need and tried to suggest that I just install subway tile, (because it would be easier) but Harvey and his team had a can-do attitude which I really appreciated. The project took a little longer than anticipated due to the shape of the tile and my space and all of the cutting involved, but the Mistival team showed up on time everyday with a smile. I appreciated that they took the extra time to do it right. They were also extremely tidy, using drop cloths all over the house and cleaning up at the end of everyday. I contacted Harvey in October 2020 to refinish our downstairs level, the staircase and replace the upstairs flooring and his was very prompt and professional in all of his responses. We had Harvey and his team remove carpet from the den and then tooth-in the new oak planks so that it blended seamlessly with the existing planks. They sanded everything down and stained it Provincial. You cannot even tell where the old wood ends and the new wood begins- it's a PERFECT match. We get so many compliments on these floors. I honestly couldn't be happier with their work and professionalism. We changed our minds multiple times and requested to look at many samples after they sanded everything down. I contacted them for a quote and they responded asking where the house was located (within their work zone, according to Yelp). After I responded, I never heard back. Ridiculous. Waste of time. I'll update my review since it took only days for this person to respond to a yelp review, but weeks to respond to an email. I guess bc this could affect his business. No, we were not under contract- never said that or implied it. I emailed the company on 5/31, they responded 6/1 asking for my address and availability to come out for an estimate. I confirmed my availability 6/2 and then SILENCE until I posted this review and on 6/16, two weeks after first contact, they responded to my 6/2 email. This review has nothing to do with the quality of the work. It's infuriating to go through this process and deal with less than ideal customer service. It doesn't take 2 weeks to confirm a date to come out for an estimate. If it does, I question your man power for projects. And if it does, reply and say you will have to get back to me in 2 weeks due to X Y Z. The reason you haven't received a response back from me (or a second response, rather) is bc I'm not wasting more time with a company who cannot make me a priority for 20-30 minutes. If it's not a priority to come over for an estimate, it makes the customer worry that it won't be a priority to finish the project, do quality work, etc; it can be taken as a red flag. read more

I was replacing the wall to wall carpeting in two floors of my house with waterproof hardwood. I did the project in two phases where the furniture for each floor was moved into an on-site storage unit for the duration of the installation. I found Mistival from their outstanding online reviews and because I needed to work with a contractor who would allow me to supply my own flooring, since the brand of flooring I was using is not commonly available in my area and I was purchasing it from a supplier in another state. Harvey from Mistival came out right away to talk about my plan for doing the installation in two phases and to take measurements so I could order the correct amount of flooring for each phase and also for my kitchen, which I plan to do later. He gave me a very reasonable estimate for the installation and outlined everything that would be needed so I could order my flooring and know what to expect for the installation. My driveway slopes downhill and the flooring was going to be delivered on a pallet at the curb, so Harvey had his crew come over to move it into the garage when it arrived. They also came over to move the flooring for each phase of the installation into my house after the furniture was moved out. This was a complicated schedule, and Harvey came through for me each time. The actual installations went very well, the installation crews were outstanding and the finishing touches like the shoe molding and transition pieces all came out beautifully. We had a pretty significant problem: a fairly-recently installed master shower had started leaking badly into the floor below. The original contractor was no longer available, so we had to hire a new crew to tear out the shower floor and subflooring. I went with Harvey and Mistival largely on Yelp reviews, and my wife and I were very happy with the whole experience. Harvey correctly diagnosed where the leak was coming from, and then his crew did fast and clean work to re-install the shower from the ground up. These guys just did a big job for me, and I'm very impressed. They installed hardwood in my foyer and made some minor repairs elsewhere, then refinished my entire main level, 2 sets of stairs, upstairs hallway and a bedroom. It looks fantastic. The quality is excellent. This is the 4th house I've refinished floors in, and my 1st time with Mistival. I hired them because Harvey responded quickly and he and Douglas seemed experienced, but also because the quote was very reasonable for the scope of work. I'm so glad, because this type of work is intrusive and disruptive but I was surprised at how easy they made it for me. A big crew did the work which made it go fast. They were all very professional and pleasant, and clearly experienced with floors and with working together. They moved and protected my belongings, and I was amazed at how little dust there was. Really, almost none. The blizzard came in the middle of the project, but we only lost one day! They got right back to it. Words can't express how happy I am with Harvey and his staff. From start to finish they were officiant, nice, and gave exemplary work that surpass all my expectations. My 1970s home had the original slate entry way common in that period and there were areas where we took down a wall and closet which left bare concrete underneath. We're not the original owners so finding the same wood to do the patchwork became a daunting and unsuccessful task. We emailed many companies to no avail. Fed up and willing to pay extra to get someone to do the leg work, I emailed many flooring companies and boy are there many. Harvey messaged me right away and offered to send someone to my house the next day to pick up a sample of what I have. He scowled far and near but couldn't find an exact match as well. Instead of giving up he found one that was very close in finish, graining, and thickness. Harvey knows how good they are. he was confident they could tweak the installation to compensate for any slight difference in thickness. Once I gave him the go they were in and out in two days. They worked their asses off and was willing to accommodate my schedule and urgency. I love this company and his workers are all amazing. They draped plastic around the areas to contain the dust in one area and made sure every inch was perfect. They even noticed how I didn't have any quarter round on the first level and offered to install some. That's how much of a perfectionist everyone from this company is. Typically when you get a good deal the work ends up being subpar. Guys this company was the best price and the BEST in everything. Even my partner was impress with the results. Harvey and Douglas helped us renovate 2 bathrooms and a half bath and we wholeheartedly recommend them. They are easy to work with, punctual, pay careful attention to detail and clean up well after each day of work. More than anything, they are trustworthy and committed to doing the right thing. Couple of examples ... I asked for a shower niche and they built it to my specifications. Afterward, Harvey felt it could, aesthetically, look better and proposed some changes. I agreed and they had it re-built, using tiles Harvey sourced. The resulting niche looks so much better. Late one evening halfway through the reno, I discovered a leak in our garage ceiling. I called Harvey and both he and Douglas came back out. It was close to midnight by the time they left. They discovered the leak was caused by a pinhole in one of the copper pipes in our 50 year old house. They subsequently fixed the leak and all the affected drywall. We are extremely grateful they were there for us. They are examplary contractors. We are pleased with how the bathrooms turned out, and how they took care of us.
