I went here yesterday and had a wonderful experience! First off, the lady who checked me out so soooo kind and explained how the whole process works of using a card to try samples of beer and even came over to show me on my first try. I got the caesar salad and I highly recommend that! It was seriously delicious, a little pricey, but worth it! They have a lot of benches there so plenty of places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. I don't know any other place in Denver that has such a variety of beer on tap and such good food. Denver is lacking breweries that also offer food. If you're in the RiNo area I would 100% recommend going to this place. Also, they have a lot of bike racks in front of the restaurant for you to lock up for your bike. Cheers! read more

Whether you spend ten minutes or a few hours here, you'll walk away happy. The self-tap concept is fantastic!! You can try numerous drinks without the associated bar tab or hangover, because you literally pay by the ounce. And they have a great happy hour. Eat SOMETHING here. You won't be disappointed. The various meat n cheese boards came with several different mustards. Delish! The fries and pretzels are great. The mac n cheese rocks. I love the atmosphere here. They have a great front patio. This is a low key and casual open area that's great for hanging out with friends over any type of beer you want. The ability to pour your own beer makes it easy and inexpensive to try a number of different beers that you may not be inclined to try otherwise. The large garage door was open to let the fresh air in, and the long picnic tables make this great for a group setting. I highly recommend! read more

SO COOL how this works! When you arrive, you queue up to the register to show your ID and load up a microchip card. The card allows you to a certain number of ounces of beer that you can then go to something like 40 taps and pour your own up to that limit. They have a huge variety of beers from sours to stouts from all around the country. I chose the method of doing lots of small tastes so that I could try a lot of things. My fiance chose the method of pouring a full pint of something first, but then wished he had tried my way haha :P. After you reach your card's limit, you must go back into the queue to reload. They do this so that they can make sure you are not over-drinking. Since my fiance and I were sharing a card, we had to do this once. read more

This place is awesome! You walk in, get in line, sign up with your credit card/ID, and receive a draft card to use to fill up the glass they give you! I came on a Saturday afternoon with a friend. It was busy enough, but not overly crowded by any means. They have a really large selection as far as drafts go. They even have wine and kombucha!! Lots of variety and options. I had mostly light wheat beers. Protip is to not fill your glass all the way so that you can taste-test lots of different beers (if you're into that). Your card gets you 32oz of drink.. so watch your pour! I really like the atmosphere at this place. They have table seating downstairs, upstairs, and outside. It's a really casual, homey feel. Food is also served here. I didn't get anything but the food looked AMAZING. My friend had a burger and she said it was really, really good. This place is definitely fun for a night out with friends! The ambiance is loud, hip, and fun! It was my first time doing the beer tap thing with a card but it was a good way to try a variety of beer and wine! You get a card after u give them your credit card and it runs a balance on each our you do for beer or wine! You get charged by the ounce and they have a huge selection of beer! First time here, neat little spot. I was happy they had cider and kombucha on tap. Seeing I'm gluten free. Dad nibbles and bites. I wouldn't suggest the wings they were over sauced, and the deviled eggs were a little flat. What I had to drink was excellent. I enjoyed the large windows with the sunlight coming in. It has a second-floor that overlooks the establishment. Parking was fairly easy but I could see during the summer could become an issue. I definitely go back it was a great time to be there. Being able to pour your own beer was a lot of fun! When you come, you give your card information and they give you a "First Draft" charge card and you can electronically scan it at each beer tap, and it charges you for the ounces poured. You can pour as much or as little as you like, but it will cut you off at a certain amount of beer though. They also serve food; i was disappointed they were out of pretzels (on a Sunday) but the asian wings were delicious. read more

I came here with my hubby and his parents. I cannot drink beer so I drank water in a fancy goblet. My family really enjoyed this place! You leave a credit card on file and then they load a card for you. You scan the card at the tap you want and then dispense yourself. There is a limit- but once you hit the limit- you just find another employee to load more for you. They just want to make sure you're OK to continue. They have tables inside, upstairs, outside tables, and outside stands. We went on a friday night around 8pm- we were able to snag a table. Soon after, it got suuuper crowded! This place is located in an up and coming neighborhood. There are SUPER nice brand new apartments and restaurants- and at the same time there are really run down buildings with graffiti and homeless people hanging out on the sidewalks. After the beer, we walked to the next street which had a nice selection of restaurants. I would definitely bring my friends here again! =) read more

This place is legit amazing. I came here expecting just a normal bar/beer garden, but got so much more. To witness this technology in action is just fantastic. Basically, you go to the cashier and charge your credit card, attaching your bar tab to an RFID card or bracelet. Once you have this card/bracelet, you can go to any of the 40+ taps in the opposite side and pour your own beer, which is priced by the ounce. Each tap is equipped equipped with an LED screen telling you the name of the beer, type of beer, alcoholic content, and price per oz. You wave your RFID gadget in front of the reader, and then pour to your heart's content. After you finish pouring, the screen will read how many ounces you've poured, so you can figure out how much you've drank. Dangerous if you like to keep score with your buddies, ha. They also have ciders and even wine on tap, so if you don't drink beer, there are definitely options for you. The space itself is pretty big, although I would personally avoid bringing massive groups here, as there are only a few communal tables, whereas the upstairs seems more suitable for small groups or couples. The front door opens like a garage during the summer, so there's even more space outside during the warm weather months. Obviously, we came during the winter, so everything was closed, but again, there actually was a considerable amount of space for our larger 10+ person party. We ordered a few of the small plates including Brussels sprouts, Chili wings, burgers, brisket grilled cheese, shishito peppers, and fries. My favorites were the Brussels sprouts, as they had a distinct garlic butter flavor, and the brisket grilled cheese was also outrageously good with its buttered sourdough too. Ridiculous. My only qualm with the place was how salty some of the food was. As I mentioned before, the quality of the food was good, just definitely over-seasoned. In my opinion, I can actually take on more salt than most people, but the cajun fries, shishito peppers, and burger were just way over-salted. I can understand why, given that they want you to drink more beer, but it was just too much. Pretty much the only reason I'm giving it a 4-star rating instead of 5. Really, I guess it should be 4.5 stars. Food service was really quick. They use the numbering system where you place your food order (also using your RFID card/bracelet) and then you get a number to post at your table. Pricing is pretty fair, with most beers at $0.50 an ounce, and most dishes at around $8-10. Once we were done with our tabs, we submitted our RFID cards/bracelets back to the cashier, and then all we had to do was sign the receipt and we were done. Really quick, and beats having to wait for a bartender to do all that stuff for you, while also needing to tend the bar. Despite the salty food, I would easily recommend First Draft, and I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Denver. I'm basically like a 4 year old because I have a serious fascination with doing everything myself. I'm the gal you see at the self-checkout at grocery stores for example, and so, when I heard there was a place where I could pour my own beer I knew it was just a matter of time until I would be checking it out. And of course, my do-it-myself, self loves it. I love it because you can pour as much or as little as you'd like. I love it because you can try so many different kinds of beer. I love it because each tap has a little info screen so you know more about what you might drink. I love it because even though they are a beer place they have two wines, one cocktail, and a kombucha on draft too in case anyone in your crew isn't a beer person. I love it because there are all different shapes and sizes of glassware. I particularly love all the different sour beers I've been able to try here. And I love it because they have a pretty decent food selection to accompany the beer. I have been several times now, both in really large groups and in small sets, and have always had a good time. I have eaten grilled shishitos, pretzels, Brussels sprouts, chickpea fritters, the burger, the brisket grilled cheese, the mac & cheese, and the beet salad, which is basically the entire menu. My favorite has been, by far, the grilled cheese, but it was all enjoyable. And the milk and cookies with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies & malted stout milk is a great way to end a meal, if you have room. I definitely love this spot! read more

Yum, yum, yum! Though I couldn't indulge in one of the main attractions - the 40+ taps of self-serve beer and cider - I did really enjoy their food. The delicious maple fries, shishito peppers, and brisket sliders for a shared plate menu are a testament to this place's success and could stand alone as a full-service restaurant, but fortunately compliment the awesome tap list that truly sets First Draft apart from the surrounding hip RiNo spots. Likewise to the tap list, the food menu is always changing - making this spot a constant fun surprise with each visit. The space is perfect for a get-together any kind with an expansive patio in the heart of the vibrant RiNo district. Plus, paying for each ounce you drink is such a refreshing way to imbibe. Certainly a sophisticated way to truly evaluate each beverage instead of filling forced to chug a crummy beer you don't like, because you paid the full price of a pint. Loved this place!! So chill, welcoming, unique, and fun! We decided to get a drink at this bar after reading yelp reviews and then decided to grab some food at the same time. The place is set up to make everything convenient for the customer. You give your credit card and ID, order food, then proceed to pour your own glass of beer. The food was the best part! AMAZING!! Welcome to the neighborhood! We walked by and were told they had just opened, so we formed a posse and rolled out! We went for brunch, which was packed with delicious. The ordering process is weird, one of those kinda stuttery processes that has more than one step. Where this place will stand out is the beer (and wine soon). You check in and everyone is given a wristband, bands are tied to your tab that you open right there. The mmm 30 or something beer taps lining the wall are all RFID enabled. you tap your bracelet against the screen telling you about the beer, and a light comes on, you pour your own. Each pour is measured and you see that pour plus your cumulative pours. It's kinda neat. It might suck when crowded trying to get to the tap you want, past the "what do i want" folks, but definitely kinda fun. Can't wait to make this a local hang out. read more

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical of First Draft when I first heard the idea. I assume they would have basic micro-brews available anywhere with the selling point you were able to pour your own beer in any volume you chose allowing for multiple tastings. I was thoroughly impressed with the wide range of micro-brews from all over the US. I have even been able to have a few beers from New Holland out of my home state of MI and from Sun King in Indianapolis. My most recent visit was during the pumpkin beer tap takeover. This was what really impressed me with the wide variety and the many different types of pumpkin beers they had! After my first visit, I was unaware First Draft had prepared hot food on the menu. Naturally, when I returned my friends and I had to sample some of the small plate offerings. I had a few of the sliders and they were amazing! I will most certainly return to First Draft for more food and drink at a later date! read more

There are, I think someone said, 45 taps? This is where you should really have your observational skills heightened. You're gonna wanna watch the people in front of you make the mistakes so that YOU look like the pro. A: you have to touch the white part of your watch to the letters on the tap. Actually touch it. B: Then the tap turns green. C: Then you want to hold your glass at a 45 degree angle and pull the tap toward you. D: enjoy as many ozs of beer as you want! E: stumble back up to the counter when you're drunk F: give them your fancy watch G: Flinch waiting to see how much it will cost...10 dollars an oz? 100? who knows? ahhh how many did I have?? I stumbled onto this place while in Denver and had no clue I would get so much education on beer. They have roughly 30 taps with screen at the top. You go in get a card and a cup and sample as many different types as you like. Please don't get me wrong you are paying for the taste, each beer ranges from 50 cents to 75 cents per oz. It is easy to rack up a tab, but if your like me just a sip is okay. I tasted over 15 different beers and each screen tells you the alcohol content along with how and what it is made with. You have hoppy, sour, hard ciders etc. I really enjoyed this place and would want to visit again. read more

It's like one of those froyo places with the flavors in the wall that you fill your cup with. EXCEPT - It's refillable, you can try them all, there's like 30 different kinds, oh and the best part it's not froyo IT'S BEER! Not a beer fan? Gosh, why are you reading this? Why don't like you like beer?! I don't like to jump to assumptions, maybe you are planning on taking a new friend or group here and you don't know their preferences - No worries, I saw wine and kombucha on tap too. Located in a great area and a pretty cool atmosphere. When you walk in the amazing people at the counter give you a magic wizard bracelet that unleashes the almighty flood of beer. You grab a seat and grab your glass off the wall. I loved that they had the different styles of glasses depending on which beer you are drinking. Or you can do what I did and grab the coolest looking glass and watch the other more experienced beer wizards cringe as you fill your goblet up with a pilsner and obliviously cheers it with your other magical friends. But not just any mortal can walk up and get beer! I will let you in on the real secrets. After getting your introductory wizard bracelet, make sure to use your hand as a wand and wave it around on the sign above the tap you want. Preferably between the S and T. Feel free to come up with your own spell name and confidently shout it in your best wizard voice. If you have successfully completed the spell you will be rewarded with beer! I was unaware of this on my first drink so I dumbly tried like 3 taps thinking they were out of all the beer before someone told me to use the bracelet - haha, rookie move! I spoke to one of the workers and they mentioned they frequently rotate taps so every visit will be a new page of adventure on your quest! Last tip for you, you only get 30 ounces so make sure you don't use up 10 ounces on your first pour.....unlike someone I know....which totally isn't me..... My only negative feedback is that seating is pretty limited and can be difficult to find on a busy night. The crowd does rotate regularly so you only have to wait probably 10 minutes before finding something that opens up. Although I did not eat any of the food - It all looked amazing. I was mesmerized and seriously debated stealing a bite of a sandwich from our table. But then came to my senses and realized it was a lady with a different group of people we were sharing the table with and she might not appreciate it as much as I would! There are so many things to say for why I love First Draft. I love beer. I love trying new beer. I hate being that girl asking for a million samples because I love to taste them all but don't want to commit to one I will hate! The concept of pour-your-own is perfect for me. I can go in, read about all the beers without the pressure of a bartender hastily waiting on my order, and try a 1-2oz sample of any that sound interesting! I also love that it's not just Colorado craft beer. Don't get me wrong, I love our breweries, but I also love that I get to try things from all over the country at First Draft and I don't mind paying a premium for it (cheaper than a plane ticket, right?!). I haven't had a lot of the food (so far) but the 13 hour brisket slider and the ribs were initial stand outs for me! Pretty large slider for $5 and the pretzel bun is the bomb. Nice and buttery! Looking forward to trying the grilled cheese and tomato fritters and the milk and cookies dessert. I will be back here often. Great concept! read more

Seems like a good concept and I'm excited to see how it develops/shakes out! The place itself was a lot less fancy than I was expecting which was fine by me as it will make a perfect post-spin/yoga stop. To start off: the ordering was a little confusing. It wasn't apparent that we were supposed to get set-up at the first counter so we went back to the food counter. Luckily they can set you up there as well (check your ID, take a credit card, give you a wristband) but it was not without us looking totally confused. The beer itself is fun to pour yourself but my first pour was super heady so I wasn't able to get a very large pour without wasting some (and since it's priced by the ounce, you wouldn't want to do that). The first beer, a belgian pale, was also pretty flat. The second beer (Grapefruit Sculpin from Ballast Point) was delicious as expected. They also have tap cider and wine for the beer averse. The menu is elevated above your typical pub grub and was flavorful/inventive. I had the "raw squashes" salad which consisted of mint and lemon dressed yellow and zucchini squash chunks with two cheese filled fried squash blossoms on top. Husband had a smoked trout salad with watermelon as the base. While tasty, price seemed a little steep for the size (mine was $11 and while tasty, lacked the substance of a true "meal" salad as it was primarily raw squash). I would also say that the food/prices doesn't exactly match the casual industrial atmosphere, but that's Denver for you, I guess. The beer prices can also sneak up on you (I think 50 cents an ounce). I had about 12 ounces of beer total and it was about $6. One gripe with the wristband system is that the spot where you scan your wristband is right behind the tap handle. We saw a number of people accidentally move the tap handle forward a bit while scanning so beer would squirt out before they were ready for a pour. There goes $1! All in all, I think it's a fun, unique, casual concept for the hood but I can't say I'm a 100% fan yet or that this is the end-all be-all for beer drinking. Have you ever wondered why you can't have a touchscreen tell you the life story of the beer you're drinking? Well, do I have the place for you! This is a cool place to kick it with friends. The music is not so loud that you can't have a conversation, and servers are not endlessly pressuring you to leave. Our party stayed for a quite a long time, ordered tons of food (all of which was delicious), sampled the vast majority of the beer selection between us (we were 8 people) and chatted up friendly strangers. Whenever we asked anyone a question about the food or beer, we got a friendly and helpful answer. The servers were really nice. Not a single one of them made fun of my friend, who is terrible at pouring and kept ending up with glasses full of foam. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town! read more

For a slow drinking, beer sample loving person such as myself, this place is amazing! I love half pours or even smaller, especially because my beer often gets warm if I have a full pint, and to be able to taste to my heart's content here made me a happy girl. They no longer use bracelets, now you get a plastic credit card type thingy to hold in front of the 40 (!) taps to be able to pour your beer (we had no issues, worked great). In addition to beer, they had a couple varieties of cider, tap wine and even a kombucha. On a Thursday night, it was busy but not overly crowded. A friend tried their brisket grilled cheese which was served with a massive platter of perfect looking french fries, which I was too full to even sneak a bite of, so I'll definitely be back to try their small menu of small snacks, charcuterie and cheese boards, large plates, salads, sandwiches and desserts. I was in a dark beer mood as usual and loved my salted caramel stout (collab with Salt & Straw ice cream in Portland, yum) and a robust porter from a brewery in SF. Speaking of ice cream, you can add scoops of Little Man ice cream to your beer for just $2 to make a float, something I love to do at home. There was a creme brulee stout I tried that would have made a super tasty beer float. More casual inside than I expected but really nice industrial interior. I saw prices from .50-.70 per ounce. They had two sizes/styles of glassware for your pouring pleasure. Such a fun place! read more

I'm in Denver fairly often to visit friends, and one of them recommended that we check this place out. Do yourself a favor and get here. Within ten or so minutes of arriving, the owner/manager greeted us and talked about beer selection and food with us. He seemed very knowledgeable, and he knew on the spot what kind of oil they used to fry things in: rice oil (high five to no peanut oil!). Bae is a craft beer aficionado, so he talked at length about how stellar the beer selection was (especially the Sculpin and a Bruery beer). It's a cool idea that the customer can pour exactly how much they want; I'm indecisive and hate to settle on a whole pint if it's something I'm just trying. I was kind of scared about how the beer would pour out given that I am not a bartender, but all of our dranks were perfect. The brisket grilled cheese was amazeballs - that herb butter is DECADENT. It's rare to find a place that gets five stars for personnel, five stars for food, and five stars for beer. Way to hit it out of the park, First Draft! Will definitely be back for brunch. This would be a good spot for a birthday bash, too, as all the partygoers could have separate tabs. I've got some ideas for you, 1D. At first i totally loved the concept. Pick the beer you want and try a little or a lot and no-one can judge your choices! But it's a trick to get your fancy bracelet to match up correctly to unlock the tap. I'm not positive about it not counting foam in the pour. Pretty sure, i've paid for some foam. Obviously i need to learn to pour beer better! The food is just ok to me. It's froo froo food. Nothing super amazing, or just pub like to eat with your beer. Hubby thinks it's fab and it's close to home, so we'll be back but it wont be a destination that i choose! The idea of having a ton of beers to choose from is good, but they no longer provide a list, so to pick one you have to stand there looking waaay above the tap to read about it on the electronic board. read more

A pour your own, pay by the ounce beer bar! What a great addition to the RiNo area! The self-pouring/ pay by the ounce concept allows you to experience a variety of unique craft beers without making a whole glass investment to a specific beer. You get to be your own bartender and can sample over 30 craft beers on tap. I am never good at finding the right beer for me and get bummed when I order a beer and I don't like it. Because you order it, you feel like you have to drink the whole glass. With First Draft's concept, I can pour myself 4 ounces of a beer to try and move on if I don't like it. There is a great selection on tap that offers the chance to try new craft beers from all over the country. They also offer wine and ciders. The beer guides are incredibly helpful, with suggesting beers you might want to try based on your taste to showing you how to pour correctly. The process is that you start a tab, you get a wristband with a chip in it that identifies you to your tab, then you match up your chip to the logo for the tap and pour away. The food is amazing! I was a huge fan of the farotto, buttermilk chicken slider, fries and the pulled pork sliders. The chef and owners have created a menu that is unique and not just your normal bar menu. I highly suggest grabbing a bite while visiting. All of the employees are so helpful, laid back and seem like they have a great time working at First Draft. I absolutely love the concept of First Draft. If we have serve yourself fro-yo, why can't we have serve yourself beer? And surprisingly, beer is not the only thing they have on tap! Right when you walk in, you'll see a bunch of tables/seats where you just seat yourself. When you're ready, you can walk up to the counter and grab yourself a glass and a checkout card. Your checkout card measures which drink you try and how much you get of it. So, you can totally go at your own pace and drink what you feel like you can handle. Their beer options are fairly unique and quite crafty (in my opinion). But, what really draws me in is the kombucha, wine, and cider. Unfortunately, their kombucha tap was down when I went. So, I didn't get to sample this. But, I will be back for sure to taste it. Not only do they have drinks here, they have some pretty bomb food. My inner child loves french fries, and they do it so well here. Believe me when I say they do it well! These are not your standard fast-food french fry from McDonald's. They have substance and flavor to them. But, all of their dining options are perfect for your drinking munchies. Like I've said, I love the concept of serving yourself quality beer (wine, cider, and kombucha). I would definitely recommend taking CO visitors here. This bar is AWESOME! So when you first go in, you give them your ID and credit card. Then they give you a little bracelet that you use to pay for the beer. The beer is set up like how froyo is set up, all lined up across the wall.. and you can click your bracelet on the sign so you can try the beer and pour as much as you'd like. I tried 5 different kinds of beer and a whole pint for maybe $7!!!! I mean, it's kind of very easy to go crazy here and start just pouring one after another.. so be careful. I only resisted b/c I was DD at the end of the night. But I can imagine not having to drive... I would want a pint of all the delicious beer!!! Their sour beer was really good. Hopefully they have that again when I go back. I heard the food here is really good as well.. and you can pair your food with beer by trying all the different ones. :) They have an upstairs section that was blocked off for a birthday party.. but I think on normal nights you can go there to chill too. read more

SO IN LOVE WITH FIRST DRAFT!!! This is my new spot! The concept is so cool - the food is UNREAL! This is exactly what the area was missing. I love to try a lot of different kinds of beers, so this is the perfect place to do so since you pay by the ounce... again such a cool concept! We were greeted by the owner when we came in, and he was SO nice and helpful. What an awesome place! We came here to come for some dinner before we had to catch our flight back home. This place was recommended by some locals. We were so excited that there was such a huge selection of beers on draft that you can fill your own glass by the ounce which was really neat. The food was delicious and we had a good time here! Five stars! This place was awesome! It's self served here. You pour your own drinks so the lines to the bar to get a drink were pretty much eliminated. I went on a Wednesday night though, so it wasn't too crowded. The people that worked there were so nice and friendly. You first check in at the counter to get your access card, and then you're off! You pay by the ounce. It was typically around 0.60$ an ounce. They had 40 drinks on tap, which also included wine, iced coffee, and even kombucha. They also have a counter for you to order food from their menu. A patio outside. And a little upstairs area. I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area. I absolutely LOVE the concept of First Draft. Walk in, show them your ID and credit card, and get a scannable wristband. Then you're free to enjoy all the beer and wine they have on tap along the wall! It's all self-serve, so you can get as much or as little as you want of each drink. Perfect if you want to do a "tasting" and sample a wide variety. The prices per ounce are listed on the screen below each drink. The atmosphere of the place is cool and hip (it is in RiNo, after all) and it has a nice patio! My only criticisms of this place are that I found the wristbands difficult to scan, and the employees weren't very helpful/friendly. I asked a few of them what their favorite light beer on tap was because I was a little overwhelmed with the large selection. I got a lot of blank stares and they didn't seem too eager to offer suggestions. Oh well! I wiłl definitely be back because I love the concept. read more
