Amazing driving school. I took my classes here a couple years back during Covid. The instructors are flawless in their explanations, written tests, and driving tests. They take you on actual roads and test you on every scenario. You learn valuable road skills through their mock tests. I was a total beginner. I had no idea how to drive. They guide you 100% through every step. They explain every road sign (even the rare/uncommon ones). Whether you're somewhat experienced or a complete beginner, First Gear is a great school. They teach you a "defensive" driving style in order to look out for other driver's mistakes and act accordingly. read more

Do not bring your child here!!!! They will lie and take your money they will short your childs driving practice hours and say "oh your doing fine we need to go back" my child wants to use up her full hour to practice and they dont care they will not give you ur time. They never and i mean NEVER answer the phone like they know its you calling! They will try to book appointments without you knowing and then make you pay a fee for no show when you was never notified for the drive. This place lacks professionalism and the owner and front receptionist are RUDE!!! I will make shure better business bureau knows how falsely this establishment is! Look for all the bad reviews and take this information as a sign all the good ones were lucky but many have been given the worst experience at a cheap place in south side! Just for all the parents to remember: you have 6 months from the time you start your sit down classes and to finish your 7 drive along. If you don't you have to pay ANOTHER $25.00. Never mind your kid has school, work, and other life events to deal with. Also beware that your kid can only drive once a week. It seems unfair but you have no other choice but to pay cause your kid will not be able to get their license. read more

I started driving a couple weeks back and this place is amazing. The driving instructors are great and have taught me so much I'm so little time. I'm on my 6th drive tomorrow and am excited to go back. I feel that with just a bit more practice I'd be able to take my driving test all thanks to the team at first gear. read more

This place is bad. Not professional. My daughter finished her driving classes back in May. It now October, and she can't even finish the driving part of it because they cancel on you 40 minutes before the driving lesson starts on the day when she is supposed to drive. The other issue is that they don't make reservation in advance. This means you can't schedule 2 or more driving sessions. Seriously, don't waste your money at this place. If I had known that it was going to be like this, we would have chosen a different place. A bigger place with more staff. This place can't handle the capacity of kids that are going. They don't have enough driving instructors. Not only that, they are not teaching the kids correctly. One instructor told my daughter that she could go 40 MPH in a residential area. That crazy, if a kid come out from in-between Parked cars you're not going to to have enough reaction time. You're going to kill someone going that fast in a residential area. THEY ARE NOT TEACHING SAFE DRIVING. Anybody with common sense would know that 40MPH in a residential area is way too fast. They should get shut down just because of the safety aspect of it. A month a half ago ( mid August ), my daughter was supposed yo take her last driving test. We she got hurt and fractured her ankle (right foot/driving foot), so we had to reschedule until she didn't have to wear the boot. The staff member said no problem and there would be any charge. We'll, the boot came off, she no longer had to wear it so we've been calling to make an appointment but they don't answer the phone. You leave a voice message, and they don't call you back. And when you do get ahold of someone, the was to schedule you during the day. Before 5pm. My daughter goes to school till 4:45 p.m., so the only time to do it is on the weekends. Which is fine, but they are always booked. So we finally was able to get on the schedule for today (Sunday Oct 22 2023) and this clown (for a lack of a better word without using profanity) (The owner) comes and till my wife we have a balance. My wife asks him for what, and he starts rambling nonsense about inflation, covid 19, you had a contract, and I don't know what else he was saying. Mentioned something about being a business owner. We'll my wife went off on him. She told him about the no answering, no call backs, the late scheduling, the 40 minutes cancelation before her drive was supposed to take place, the scheduling issues, not being able to get on the schedule because the people at the front desk need to talk to the driving instructors. I wish I had been there, things would have gone way different. I don't know if he did what he did because it was a woman. But I think I should pay him a visit and see if he talks to me that way. My wife says leave it along, our daughter passed and no longer have to deal with him or them. She just need to take her driving test with DPS. This place is unprofessional, the staff is clueless, and are incompetent and are oblivious to what's happing. Seriously, do not waste your money or time here. I wish I had read the reviews that other people have experienced and posted because the same thing that happened to them happened to us. if I can, I'll be filing a complaint with the state and the better buisness burial.
