They take you on actual roads and test you on every scenario. You learn valuable road skills through their mock tests. I was a total beginner. I had no idea how to drive. They guide you 100% through every step. They explain every road sign (even the rare/uncommon ones). Whether you're somewhat experienced or a complete beginner, First Gear is a great school. They teach you a "defensive" driving style in order to look out for other driver's mistakes and act accordingly.

I would recommend you schedule a appt with DMV to get your learners permit before you take the class. Appointments are 2-3 months out. After you take the in person class, the same day you get your learners permit at DMV, go home and schedule an appointment to get your license right away. That way after driving lessons and test you already have a appointment set up to turn in passing results of driving test and get driving license.

However, after classroom - I expected the driving part to start immediately. I expected driving time to occur weekly just like classroom. After all it is DRIVING SCHOOL. When I called I was told, the teen will get ONE two hour class per month for SIX months! Shocker! This was not in the detailed contract. Then, it got worse - the first class behind the wheel happens (for my teen) almost TWO MONTHS after classroom. Then, scheduled only ONE hour in car, which equals 30 minutes of driving, 30 minutes behind the wheel. I paid for the class to gain professional training behind the wheel. Now, I am doing exactly what I did not want - teaching a teen to drive! I highly recommend you change your contract and provide FULL DISCLOSURE to include your driving time scheduling. Your having too many students is NOT my problem.

It seems like people are quick to leave bad reviews, but rarely take the time to post good ones…read more Looking through the negative comments, most of them come from folks who either failed or did not finish the course. Full transparency: I failed my first time around. Notice the keyword I. I failed because I lacked confidence and did not follow directions properly. I missed passing by a single point. Did I huff and puff? No. Was I disappointed? Absolutely. But I would much rather fail knowing I am not ready than pass and be a hazard on the road. At the end of the day, when Ian signs off on you, it is because he trusts you to be safe for yourself and everyone around you. I took the course a second time, swallowed my fear, built up my confidence, and passed. As for people complaining about Ian cussing, I call total BS. I barely heard him swear. Even if he did, so what? We are all adults over 18. We hear four letter words in movies, music, and daily life, so why get offended during motorcycle training? Ian is not there to make friends with you. He is there to make sure you are safe and capable of passing. Just listen to what Ian and the rest of the instructors teach you. Even if you do not take this particular class (which I highly recommend), for any MSF course you take, you still have to listen and follow through. Their job is to help you pass, but you still have to meet the legal standards. He does not make up those rules, but he will make sure you stay safe out there. During such a hard time, I felt comfortable with them there. All the teachers at the time took precautions and were very sweet! (Even when they were going through hard times.) We unfortunately couldn't afford the costs to continue when the schools opened back up, but I highly recommend this daycare! We are thankful we were able to afford it during the midst of Covid and allowed our child to socialize and learn when it wasn't a normal thing that was happening. So to give some backstory about my experience here, I enrolled my kid since he was 14-15 months (I think that was the earliest you could enroll a kid back then) so he started at the school very young. At the beginning we really enjoyed our time there. The teachers were absolutely wonderful but there was always a kind of hostility coming from the owners that I decided to ignore because it was not affecting me. However, as the years went by and my kid started to grow we realized he had a learning disability and was most likely under the spectrum. I tried to keep open communication with the school about all the testing we were doing and recommendations from his pediatrician and therapist, just so we could all be on the same page and support him. With that being said, I KNOW my kid wasn't the easiest to handle because he needed more attention and patience than other kids. So here is where MSA failed me and my family. At the beginning of this year my husband was deployed out of the country. The school always pride themselves of supporting military families so as such, I let them know of what was happening in our household and the date that my husband would be leaving. The day after he left, they called me to give me a one month ultimatum that my kid either had to be potty trained or he was out of the school. Long story short, I talked to them in person and asked them "do you all were aware that my husband had just been deployed and you called me the next day to give me a one month ultimatum?" and they said "yes". How in this world can they say they support military families when they act like that? On top of that, the potty training was just an excuse to get rid of my son because they did not know how to work with him. I would've preferred if they admitted that my son would be better at a different school and give me enough time to search for one, instead of giving me a month to figure all this out on my own. Also, I was able to potty trained my kid in that month they gave me, but because he was still having accidents, then he couldn't stay which obviously was a reflection of their lie and excuse. Long story short, the owners here DO NOT care about the kids. Your kid will only be another number in their list and will happily get rid of your kid if it causes them any kind of inconvenience. Besides my issue, so many other things happened this year at that school that were highly concerning, so definitely do your research before you try to enroll your kid here.
