Didn't deal with someone in person at this location but Kristina O'Neill was who our realtor recommended and was our loan officer and she was of great assistance while we spent the past 4 months looking at houses and putting in several offers. She was able to work with us as we constantly changed offer amounts through the 5 homes we looked at and was able to get us a loan that worked out. First Heritage's rates were slightly better than what we looked at with bigger named companies like Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Navy Federal, etc. So we ended up sticking with them. read more

The WORST! I wouldn't recommend First Heritage to anyone. The staff is unbelievably rude and unprofessional. They have no system to keep track of paperwork, they ask for the same documentation they already have over and over again. Melissa Mallory at one point said it would be easier for us to resubmit forms and records than for her to try and look for them. Cynthia Ruude lives up to her name as she just flat out refused to provide the documents she was sighting from and only agreed to paraphrase, despite repeated attempts to see the documentation myself. To speak to anyone would require multiple phone calls and emails. Additionally, not one person ever went over the process that occurs for buying a house. Our realtor had to call in to find out where things where at because Fist Heritage only responds when they need something from you. No one from this company has your best interests in mind. You will regret using this company for your mortgage needs. read more

I would avoid First Heritage Mortgage without thinking twice about it. Their underwriting division missed an important detail regarding my home insurance package which later cost us over $1200 post closing. To add insult to injury once the loan closed they sold our mortgage to a loanshark servicer that handles collections. Our first mortgage payment which was made to First Heritage was not recorded properly and we are now trying to get the new servicer to apply the correct amount to our note. The new servicer is a debt collection agency and they treat every issue like you are the problem and delinquent in your financial affairs. First Heritage should be ashamed. When I tell you this has been an unpleasant experience that is being nice. First Heritage was only about getting the deal to closing and cashing our check. Avoid this company, they are one excuse after another and do not take care of their customers. To date they have never apologized only offering half truth excuses. Save yourself from this place and just don't use them. Never again, you have no idea what surprises await you once these people disappear. read more

The worst closing experience I've had across my home purchases. I absolutely do not recommend them. My officer was fine, but the office kept asking for things in pieces, instead of at once. It was like this was their first mortgage process. They still requested documents on the day of closing, and the paperwork was not complete in time for the closing to start. We waited 2 hours past the start of closing for their office to finish the paperwork for the titling office. And then they didn't send a representative to the closing!! That's the first time that's happened to me. Their office's incompetency and unprofessionalism made the process very stressful. read more

After months of working diligently with their lenders, they made inlateral decisions with our loan that cost us an additional 1% of our home's purchase price. Do not entertain any meeting or call with them without documenting every word and/or promise they make. We will not be refinancing or working with them again. read more

I worked with Curtis, who on my first call, gave my an ear full on how experienced he is in the business. At the time, I was shopping for the best deal, and Curtis failed to mention a charge to me until after my decision. And at a time of rapidly increasing rates. This charge of half point would have made me go with a different mortgage lender. With Curtis's experience, I can't help but think he conveniently left that half point out to gain my business. You can be the judge of that. Gross incompetence or slimy lender? I also ask a lot of questions as I was new to the process, and when I got to asking about points and credits. He was a terrible at explaining. I got very frustrated with his circular non-answers that I had to hang up, and research the topics myself, even asking the other lenders. I will give him credit because when I confronted him about his "mistake" and terrible explanations, he did fess up. Although when he went to ask his manager about what can be done for me, he conveniently left out that he messed up in the email. The only reason I was working with this mortgage lender was because of their partnership with Stanley Martin Homes, which is another headache of a company to deal with. Where do I start? I will try and make this as short and simple as possible, considering it was anything but that. I am not the one to give reviews good or bad however, this was one of the worst experiences I have ever gone through. We recently brought a new Stanley Martin (SM) built condo in Herndon, VA. Me and my wife moved to Chantilly a couple years ago and decided to come back to be closer to friends and family. To buy a new home, we needed to sell our current home and so the process was going to be tough. We toured the house in October/November 2023 and loved it. It was a huge upgrade from our current home. I spoke with the SM agent Jennifer Lovelace and to start the process she had me reach out to First Heritage Mortgage (FHM). She mentioned they were giving out $25k credit if we were to use FHM. At the time, it felt like the perfect option. Following the application, I was in continues contact with multiple FHM loan officers regarding numbers to make sure we can purchase the place within our budget. After couple weeks, they gave us a loan estimate and considering the proceeds we were getting from selling our home, we decided to move forward. Early December we had a meeting with Jennifer and signed the contract. Should I had known what was to follow, I would never have done this! Come January we finally sold our home and were in the process of finishing up on getting our new home. Once again, since December, we have been in contact with SM and FHM regarding our interest in getting the house and who we will be using as our title company. FHM and SM recommend using First Excel Mortgage as their primary title company, but I was happy with mine, National Title Settlement Group (NTSG). We were told that closing for our new home was expected in January but due to issues with the association, our date was pushed back to Feb. We were fine with that. Now here is where things got serious. We were about 2 weeks from closing and were working with FHM on providing documents for our loan. As time got closer, we received emails from the FHM loan officers regarding the amount we would be due at closing. The numbers seemed right, slight increases which we expected however, it was still close to what they mentioned when we first started the process back in November. We were less than 1 week away and received an email from James Walker. He mentioned due to our title company (NTSG) charging higher taxes than most title companies, our closing costs increased by $4k and our monthly mortgage increased by $200. I Immediately I contacted the title company, and they were outraged. The FHM loan officer from the very beginning gave us numbers based on us using First Excel Title company!! Since November, they were giving us inaccurate numbers because they ASSUMED we would close with first excel. We informed them in December we were using our own title company. I reached out to James to discuss how we had suddenly increased by $4k, his attitude was so bad and his response was, "well, we based the numbers off first excel assuming you were closing with them". He then said, "Should you have closed with first excel you would be good". SO... you gave me inaccurate numbers for months and assumed I was using your title company when you know I am not, but this is my fault??? When we informed Jennifer this would not work and we may back out, she threatened to sue us for the ENTIRE HOUSE!! She also advised we close the house as is and consider putting it up for RENT!! How can someone dare request something like that. We got closer to the closing date, and it was a complete mess. They could not own up to their mistake, Jennifer completely cut ties with us and never once decided to reach out and even apologize. We closed the house and never received any emails from Jennifer nor did i get a response from her when i emailed regarding final walk through. Our title company sent numerous emails to FHM for trying to make NTSG look bad and even considered taking them to court for defamation. FHM missed calculating the correct taxes, did not include fees and because of that, the numbers were inaccurate, but they decided to blame NTSG. At this point we had no choice; we sold our home and had nowhere to go should this fall through. On top of that, we could face being sued and taken to court. After days of going back and forth, we finally came back to the original deal. Mind you, there were sacrifices made and none from FHM or SM. Buying a home is supposed to be a great experience. I understand its stressful but having go be lied to, then threatened to be sued because we could not come up with the money is so unprofessional and unethical. We accepted losing the EMD. Even so, to advise we buy the home at any cost and put it up for rent if we cannot pay knowing its an FHA loan, which is against the LAW!! SM and FHM should look at these individuals and really consider reviewing their work and effort. read more

My fiance and I recently began our search for a home. We were working with a realtor who suggested we work with Shawn Potter on getting pre-qualified for a home so we can see what price range we should look at. Shawn was responsive an eager to help us which was nice. As we began the process, we quickly realized he was trying to get us pre-approved for a loan rather than getting us pre-qualified (two very big different things). We explained that we were in the early staged of purchasing a home and would just like to get "pre-qualified" so we can understand what we could potentially be approved for. He assured me there was no difference between being pre-qualified and pre-approved (when they're two separate things - one counts as a soft inquiry on your credit and the other counts as a hard inquiry) and asked us to move forward with being pre-approved. We ultimately denied and deemed he wasn't the right lender for us to work with. With his 17 years experience, i was surprised that he didn't yet know the difference between being pre-qualified and pre-approved. We are now squared away, working a mortgage company we feel more comfortable with. read more

My clients mentioned that they were very appreciative of the professional assistance and recommendations Ramon gave, which, after a period of time, allowed them to get approval for a home loan at a price they can afford. My husband and I had a terrible experience with this mortgage company. We were compelled to use FHM on our recent home purchase. The loan officer Samantha Bowie has the most unethical and terrible customer service in all my experience with customer service. From always making it seem like she was rendering us a special favor by attending to us or making it seem like a bother when we sought clarifications / needed to see what our options could be by running various rates considering we were making the biggest purchase of our lives ever, she made it so difficult for my husband and me. Plus, each time we tried to complain, her next words were, " You don't have to use me. I wonder what she is doing attending to clients if she doesn't have what it takes to do the job " The highlight of her unruly behavior was on the day of our supposed closing right in front of the title company rep, she so embarrassed us, and I wondered if this Sam lady was worth attending to customers. Her responses over the phone to the title company rep were so appalling and disrespectful, and we felt really terrible that day. If we had our options to go with our preferred lender, who was never tired or disrespectful despite having to run several numbers, we would never have settled with FHM and especially with staff as rude and disrespectful as SAMANTHA BOWIE!! read more

This review is for John Russel at FHM in Hanover. Very terrible homebuying experience. His communication always came off as arrogant and unwavering. He would often pawn us off on his assistants and their attitude were often a hit or miss. He had some really good ones and some obvious bad ones. I will be closing on my home in the next months and I truly regret going with these guys, i will never suggest FHM to anyone. read more

They will sell your mortgage immediately to another lender who will then also sell your mortgage to another lender. This will happen every other month you own your home. So if you want to switch lenders 180 times during the life of a 30 year mortgage, I suggest you get a loan elsewhere. read more

The person running this team is very unprofessional by sending harassing emails after numerous time of asking politely to quit emailing me for years. They didn't do a good job asking for the same info for my loan over and over. As a first time buyer using a first time mortgage company you would think that they would know how to handle a new buyer preparing for home ownership NOT THIS TEAM I had to report them to the VHDA hopefully they got the much needed education. The only blessing now is I know what I'm doing and to stay away from companies like this. This is and was my personal experience and if you go with them good luck. read more

Nick Muro and Roger Zuniga made the two months leading up to the purchase of our new home so stressful and needlessly complicated that what should have been one of the most joyful moments of our lives was turned into a nightmare that we simply wanted to end by the time settlement came. Every document we received from FHM contained mathematical errors which corresponded to wildly incorrect estimates regarding our monthly payment and cash to table. Five days before closing, we were able to have the VP of this location step in to provide some oversight and make sure the deal got done on time. If it weren't for my own vigilance--as well as that of my real estate agent and the settlement agent--I am certain that this deal would have been a disaster. It was clear that Nick did not care about his role in our transaction. His complete unwillingness to take responsibility for his missteps demonstrate that he will not improve in the future. I strongly caution anyone who has other options to steer clear of FHM and I recommend that anyone who must use FHM get any loan officer other than Nick Muro. read more

I worked with Nick Muro, and it was an awful experience. Nick Muro was dishonest in his lending practices and refused to provide me with logical numbers before my closing. I had to email his supervisors to even get a final closing number, and after that, Nick became hostile and aggressive in his approach. very disappointed and is having a horrible experience with bruce rider. he explained everything to us to get us preapproved with the interest increasing daily he told us that once we sign our purchase agreement he would lock us into the interest rate that he sent to us on the loan estimate at 5.5%. for the last 4 months we had not heard from him about nothing. not even to say to us the intrest rate was going up. once we got our closing date he finally decided to contact us about locking in our interest now at 6.75%. he didnt call email or anything to mention anything to us especially since he said we were not locked. what a terrible person this man is. why not have made contact earlier with us if he knew that we were not locked in? he intentionally didnt contact us and knew he had us beleiving that our interest was 5.5%. now we are weeks away from closing and needing more money to close and paying a mortgage that is now $600 more. i'm curious to know if there are others he has done this too. read more

This review is for Elliot Roberts at First Heritage Mortgage. The only reason it is four star is because his company could not match the other mortgage lender. However, his overall service was SUPERB! He genuinely wanted to help me get into my first home at the best price. He is very honest, and most importantly, he doesn't just throw numbers at you. He actually walks you through the process to help you get a better understanding of what you may be signing up for. He is an overall great person to work with. Again, although he tried his hardest to match, his company would not agree to it, but he worked his tail off. Even in the end, he was honest enough to advise to go to the other company because it was in my best interest. If that isn't someone of integrity and true service for the people, than I don't know what is. Although I couldn't go with him to the finish line, I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone that is interested in purchasing a home. He is easygoing, timely, and just an overall good guy. Trust with any professional when dealing with large sums of money can be a challenging experience. When I began the process of shopping for a mortgage I met a few different lenders, but none of them impressed me more than Will Jacobs and First Heritage. Off the bat, they provided me with a low rate and stuck by that rate throughout the process of my home purchase. When I found properties that I was considering, I would call up Will and he would run calculations for me to determine if it was in my budget to purchase. Every time I had a question, I wouldn't have to call multiple people, or have multiple people calling me. It was almost always me dealing directly with Will, and that was important to me. Will dealt with me square and upfront. I didn't feel like I was wasting his time. I didn't feel like he was basing his quotes solely off of other's quotes. I felt like he gave me the best deal he was able to. I would definitely do business with First Heritage again. read more
