Found FIB through BankRate.com. I have refinanced several loans on several properties over the years and have always relied on BankRate.com to show me the lowest loan rates from lenders nationwide. Since I was not new to the refi game, I knew enough to ask the correct questions and felt confident that I could pick a good lender from the list offered at BankRate. FIB had the lowest rate (2.875% on a 15 year note) so I did a quick search here at Yelp and the Better Business Bureau in Indiana. No real negative news. Of course if a company is around long enough and with enough customers, there will always be issues. Yelp just had some whiners along with some very positive refi reviews. BBB had 14 complaints over 3 years that had been resolved. Next I called FIB directly and spoke to loan officer Rick Anderson. Very courteous and professional. I asked if they would sell the loan and he responded yes and even found out on the spot who would be buying the loan... Chase Bank which was fine with me. Second: I was upfront about being in the process of submitting plans to our City Hall to expand our house, would this cause any issues. Rick had to check with his underwriters which would take maybe a day or two. He called back the next day saying that if no construction had begun yet, we would be fine. 40 days later --- loan got funded. The process was simple (if you can scan or fax the necessary docs). Everything was done electronically. They have a secure website where you can upload your docs. I used a scanner so any property tax or IRS forms which were required were easily handled. Once they had all the docs and the appraisal got done we didn't hear from them for maybe a week and then got an "all is well" message. Another week and another message. Then we get a "when/where would you like our notary to bring the closingpaperwork. We did it at 7pm in our home. Of course you sign papers until your hands ache (whining) but this was the most painful part of the entire process. Simply stated: It was a pleasure working with FIB. I highly recommend them. We worked with Dustyn and Kathleen and it was our first mortgage process. I am giving 4 out of 5 stars so FIB will have room for improvement. First of all, Compare to other banks in terms of service and respond time - rating should be 6 stars. This is because some big banks (including my own) didn't even bother to respond to my questions. I guess big banks don't need 800+ credit score customers any more? Much more often though I was harassed with smaller lender's unprofessional and extremely hard sell tactics. FIB closed the deal on-time, as they promised. All papers were submitted one business day before closing. I was very nervous about time but as it turned out, it's normal. Again, this is our first real estate transaction so not much to compare with, but my attorney, closing agent and both real estate agents were very impressed by FIB. In terms of rates and fees: we went for the higher lender credit vs. lower rate and FIB was on the top. I had mortgage brokers who honestly told me that they cannot match FIB lender credit/mortgage rate combination. I have less straightforward bankers who promised me to match or beat FIB terms but refused to submit an official GFE so I can compare terms and fees. Dustyn was very responsive, answered all my questions (answer wasn't always "YES" but I appreciated his honesty). Kathleen replied right away and both worked out very few internal glitches very fast. Things to improve: 1. I should have an option to lower my locked rate if market goes down. Some companies offer this service for a fee but I am not aware if FIB provides similar service. 2. Regarding repayment of the loan - As of now, I have only 3 paper coupons I would like to have a clear understanding and more important to have an ability to set up automatic electronic payments via web. Dustyn assured me that this will happened after first few paper payments. We've been banking with another mostly internet based bank for years . Four initials and heavily military theme - You know who. But when we wanted to refinance our 30 year to a 15 year mortgage we were disappointed with the rate they offerred and also with the attitude that since they got so much of our other banking business we'd just use them out of loyalty. Not when almost two and a half points means tens of thousand saved over the life of a loan. Ithink thier overhead keeps thier margin requirements up. Whatever. I found First Internet bank doing a generic low refinance search and wathed their rates for a couple weeks. Finally conatacted them with some back and forth on our situation. They showed some good numbers and BAM!. Best and easiest mortgage deal I ever made and I've bought and sold 4 houses. Rick Anderson was the absolute best and most helpful Loan Officer and their easy and secure web based document sharing was great. Easy stuff. Closed our loan in 40 days - but I applied on 16 Dec so once we locked in the rate we were in no hurry. But the even through Christmas 40 days was not bad I share FIB of Indiana whenever the refi or home mortgage topic comes up. read more

This is my 3rd mortgage with First Internet (main home and 2 investment property cashout refis), and my second time using John Skipper. I am a demanding borrower. I have excellent credit, my paperwork is in order, and i respond quickly to any and all underwriting requests. So, when things go more slowly than they should, I am very assertive in demanding that I be treated fairly. This time, we had an appraisal that took almost two weeks and title work that was much longer than I have grown to expect. While these were the fault of third parties, not First Internet. I have to say that John Skipper is an excellent loan officer and as good as I have ever worked with. When things are going sideways due to third parties as they often do, all I want is someone to vent to and accurate and responsiveness to my questions. You definitely get that with John. He was always professional (as is everyone I've encountered at First Internet), and he made sure things moved along as much as was in his control and we got the loan funded before lock expiration. Ultimately that's all I ask for. I'll definitely do business with John Skipper and First Internet again. read more

With all of the horror stories that one hears about buying a home, especially for the first time, I wanted to share a review of how great my experience with my Mortgage Officer Ashley Voynovich (NMLS 1515362) at First Internet Bank has been. I had initially sought a pre-approval letter with three lenders. First Internet Bank, Veterans United, and Movement Mortgage. Ashley with FIB responded first and timely communication was a theme of my experience with FIB... whereas Movement Mortgage didn't even respond until I was fully approved by FIB and Veterans United never responded at all. Ashley was awesome to work with! Between her and my Processor Katie Buckley (NMLS 1515362), they have skillfully walked me through the process to a prompt loan approval and closing date. They both were extremely kind and efficient while gathering the information needed to process my application. Again it was amazing how fast they responded to me in our correspondence. New Home Purchase Loan : Worked with Matthew Whitaker from FIB on my new home purchase loan. He was great during the 8-12 month process. He gave me pre-approval & checked on my progress occasionally. I bid on 3 houses & each time he was quick to send out an recent pre-approval. Finally when i got a house on contract he was great : a) From locking rate ( he called me the day rates took a dip & that helped get me $2200 lender credit ). b) to matching the good faith number estimates ( Was really happy with the HUD, zero complains ) c) to checking on all the documents i turned in ( he would check the next day morning & call me to tell me what was missing). Over all a great experience, i was a bit worried for the closing ( given the hot market & bidding wars) but FIB gave me ready to close 3 days before closing. Am already recommending Matthew to my friends and family. He is patient, knowledgeable, very good at follows (has called me back for every missed call) and gave me some very good advice on my down payment strategy. read more

Response to Nicole: Nicole. We still have many open issues with this loan and have not heard from anyone in days including Chris Beggs or Chris Lawson. I cannot wait for this loan to be sold to another lender as you do in many cases. This was not a case of issues with the Title Company but with you as they were consistently waiting on info from you. In the end I ended up dealing directly with the title company to get the information I needed. Shame on you and your folks for not following up, giving us and the title company false info, etc. It is a shame as I have many friends that are looking to refinance and unfortunately while we were off to a good start with you it ended so badly that I cannot nor will I recommend you to them. Our BBB complaint remains open and you will still indeed be hearing from our attorney as there were issues that require a suit to be filed in order that you get your processes improved and folks that are barriers and impede process at your bank removed and held liable for their actions. read more

First IB has been my internet bank for over 10 years, and as a bank, I think its awesome. I had my debit card stolen, and I didnt have to pay anything and the bank was totally understanding and the process was pain free. I looked at bankrate.com for a mortgage lender, and saw the FirstIB also has low interest rates. So, I decided to get a mortgage through FirstIB too. It took 2.5 weeks for my loan to go through. I closed super fast on my house (originally planned 3 weeks) but due to governemtn furlough, wanted to rush to close faster, so I asked first IB to process my loan in 2 weeks. They came through, lower interest rate than what anyone else was offering locally. The mortgage officers were very very responsive at first. Closer to closing, like 2 days before, I didnt hear from them as much, but I also moved up the closing 7 days ahead, so i appreciate that they really pushed things through for me. I'd highly recommend them, I think they really have lower rates than anyone else around. read more

Used FIB on a first mortgage this spring (2011), rates were good and the closing costs turned out to be the lowest because of a lender origination fee rebate (net negative fee). Loan officer was Mark. I kept on him as this was my first mortgage, but he was very responsive and also came up with a couple of different options, one of which really helped me. As noted below, the mortgage was immediately sold to Chase. I'm OK with this, except that Chase customer service (Philippines by sound accent) is confused about the "monthly payement" (i.e. the mortgage payment PLUS the real estate taxes escrow payment) and the "mortgage payment". If you're not careful they categorize your whole MONTHLY payment as theMORTGAGE payment, leaving you some time down the line having to explain to your town tax office why the real estate taxes haven't been paid. Note to Chase: Mortgage = loan secured by house. Mortgage payment = loan payments. Monthly payments = mortgage payment + real estate taxes escrow (if any) read more

I'm very happy with the service that I received from Mike Watson. I tried to refinance 1 1/2 years ago but because of a short sale, he said I had to wait 2 years. When it was 3 1/2 years and rates had dropped again, I emailed him. But the rules had changed and was told that it would have to be 4 years after a short sale to refinance. But he worked with me and was able to get me a FHA loan at a very low cost. I was told that I could refinance to a conventional loan at the 4 year mark at no additional cost so I can drop the PMI. Mind you, I have excellent credit except for the short sale ding and loan to value of 54%on my home. But Mike was available for questions whenever I needed him. He was a phone call away. He responded within a day or less to all my emails. And Kathleen Parran, the loan processor, was equally efficient. I'm out in California and that didn't seem to hinder the transaction at all. I will use them again when I refinance at the end of the year. read more

I've worked with loan officer Mike Watson at First Internet Bank three times now...a second home loan...refinance...and another home loan. The process was seamless all three times. Mike's professionalism and follow-up impressed me. Exceptional service like this is extremely rare in today's consumer world. I first contacted them through Zillow's Mortgage app due to very competitive mortgage rates but now they have won me over with their customer service! I plan to continue using Mike and FIB for any future home loans or refinances. I'm so impressed with FIB I recently opened an online checking account with them. I've been dissatisfied with my previous big bank for a long time and finally decided to say goodbye to outrageous fees, bad customer service and even worse security measures (my bank account hacked twice). I have now done three refinances with Scott Forster of First Internet Bank. After the first experience with him and First IB, I didn't even consider looking elsewhere for the subsequent two. I shopped around a lot on the first go-round, compared rates and costs. I found First IB to be very competitive so I went with them. What kept me coming back another TWO times was the exceptional level of caring, personal service I received from Scott. I live in California, Scott is in Indianapolis, and yet the process was seamless. He knew all the quirky CA rules and answered every question I had with patience and kindness. I highly recommend First IB, and specifically Scott Forster if you need to refi or do any other mortgage loans. In a world of a zillion mortgage loan companies and loan officers, it's hard to know where to go or who you can trust. I closed on a house on Fri, 9/20, and this was the 2nd time that I've used FirstIB. Their rates are extremely competitive, our loan officer (Scott Forster) was incredible, and the experience was about as good as it could have been. While I never met our loan officer face-to-face, at the end of the process, I felt like I had a very good relationship with him. Scott bent over backwards to keep us in the loop so we knew where we stood in the process. He was always available over email, and even called me from his cell on the weekend when I was drafting the purchase agreement (we had a complicated loan situation that required a little extra attention). My Realtor also noted that Scott was one of the sharpest loan officers that she has ever encountered, and she has been an agent for about 20 yrs, and was a loan officer prior to that. If you have access to a scanner, and know how to PDF documents, you can't go wrong with these folks. read more

We needed to close on a construction loan within 30 days and were working with another Mortgage Company when the broker let us know they were backed up and needed at least 45 days or longer to close the loan. We were panicked because the home builder was ready to break ground and we felt we were going to lose out on some optimum weather to begin building our new home not to mention delay the move in date. That's when he recommended Arthur Haan @ First Internet Bank. He said if anybody could get it done it was Arthur and boy was he right. We had an incredible experience with First Internet. We start our mortgage search with a local bank but the closing costs were extremely high and they were not very flexible. Working with Chris Lawson was a joy. He really listened to us and helped us to find a mortgage that would work. Everyone at First Internet was friendly and submitting financials and signed paperwork with them was easy. When it came time for our closing, both our title company and our real estate agent had a concern about an internet bank. The lady at our title company said that only about 5% of internet banks have everything ready in time for closing but First Internet did! She said she was very impressed with how all the documents were in order and arrived in plenty of time for the closing. I picked up on First IB when looking at mortgage rates and starting reading reviews in multiple sites. After filling out the website inquiry I got a phone call very promptly and began working with Chris Lawson. He took the time to explain the process and give me some numbers to compare against the other lenders I was shopping. I took a leap of faith and decided to move forward. Chris began the process of collecting information for our mortgage and made the process very efficient. He provided me guidance and answered all of my questions throughout the process. Then I was handed to Glenda Quigley as a processor. She had a few more document requests (a result of the mortgage crisis). This bank does pay higher interest rates than a brick & mortar bank, but that's the only positive that can be said about them. I've had issues where they've messed up every account at one time or another. However, when you call it's like you have to explain over and over again the simplest of question to try to find an answer. The owner of the bank is a scam artist who has cheated the state of Indiana out of millions of dollars so that he can keep his trophy wife du jour in a jet-set lifestyle. The state may have allowed them to take their money, but I certainly stopped letting them gamble with mine. If you decide to bank with them, check your statements VERY carefully and re-do all calculations...you'd be surprised how often they overcharge you fees and underpay you interest! To be safe, just bank elsewhere! read more

This was the most complicated, but best organized loan I have ever obtained. More paperwork, because of the times; but, the people at First internet Bank made this complication matter-of-fact. They explained everything I had written down to ask, before I had to ask. There were title issues; not their fault, that could have cost us a lot of money in the end. Our Loan Officer, Jeri Holmes, was able to extend the better rates and worked with the title people and others to resolve this critical technicality. In the very end, she pulled it off by convincing a Title Company Officer to close at our home at 7 PM, five hours before our extended, lower interest rates became higher! Our closing occurred between 7 PM and 9 PM on a Thursday night - at our house! I was tired and grumpy, but so glad it was done! read more
