Very spacious, I…read morenever felt trapped or crammed in, I had my husband and mom with me during delivery and there was plenty of space for all the staff as well! The nurses here were beyond caring, and truly went above and beyond for me and my newborn. The lactation support here is UNMATCHED. We had multiple feeding challenges against us and I never felt pressured one way or the other, lactation consultants checked in with us each day we were there and there is continued NO COST support after you leave! I've been in multiple times and called multiple times with questions. They are AMAZING and a true asset to this hospital. The nurses in birthways also go through training. My newborn required multiple blood tests after we were discharged and the lab staff was very kind and did what they could to make blood draws as quick as possible. Results were also back quicker than they estimated. I LOVED my delivery experience here, and feel confident delivering here again in the future.

I believe patients needing a immunization booster (measles, tetnus, etc) need to know they will be paying the entire amount for the booster 9and it is expensive due to cost shifting). The shot would be covered at a pharmacy with a Rx called to the pharmacy by the physician. Because I was not informed of this policy, I had to pay out-of-pocket for something that is covered by my Medicare supp. insurance. It would have been better for me to get this at my pharmacy. All patients need to know this information ahead of time.

I have a very rare medical condition that requires me to wear a medical compression garment at all…read moretimes. I am also very fair-skinned. It is very important to me that my medical garment be inconspicuous and closely match my skin tone. Simply put: I want my limbs to appear to match. Homeward Medical is one of only two stores in Ames that can fill my compression garment prescription. Most compression garment brands carry a range of styles and colors. There's usually a good chance a brand will have an option that will meet the criteria I described above. I went to Homeward Medical after reviewing the brand they carry (Jobst) offerings online. I found a garment that looked to be appropriate for my needs (light in color, opaque, correct cut and compression level). After waiting some time for help, I asked the shop person to see a Jobst catalog and asked if they would order the particular item Jobst makes to their store for me (like a pharmacy would do if they didn't have the medication you were prescribed). The sales person flat-out said that I could choose from what he had in the store but he would not order anything else from the brand he carries- not a light color and not opaque. He was completely unsympathetic to my need for matching limbs. When I asked if he knew of any other stores in the area that would be able to order something from their distributors for me and he said he didn't know. There was no "I'm sorry" or "this is why I won't order the product for you even though you have a prescription" or "let me call another location and check." I felt as though he was saying "buy what's here or don't. I don't care about your medical equipment needs." I've never encountered a medical equipment shop that wouldn't order a product from their vendor (in this case Jobst) for a client's needs. Take away: if you need something specific, even from one of their vendors, don't go to Homeward Medical. The shop is only an option if your needs are basic.

The care is so one on one and intimate. The nurses and clinicians make sure everything is crystal clear and have a plethora of brochures to educate people. There are multiple images of various ethnic persons and is one of the few places in town I as an African American feel comfortable and welcomed. They're a facility with a focus on sexual health for all, and this Planned Parenthood takes delicate care to provide for any and all sexual health and bodily plumbing needs. Also a great clinic for LGBT persons. This is the only place I've been to in town that gets it.

They were extremely informative and polite throughout the whole process and made sure I was given the exact care I needed. I stand with planned parenthood all the way.
