This bank picked up first so I went with them... I would strongly recommend shopping around.... I had no idea what kind of problems I was getting into with this bank.... Extremely pawnshop mentality. They will do whatever they can to nickle and dime a person as best they can. They have a auto pay rule on their loan payments page that will charge twice to making your payment early. I recently just got out of surgery and was looking for a little bit of wiggle room as I have been making my payments.... and once charged twice for the same month, and requested information on possibly allowing me a little time approximately a month and a half to get things going again.... As I have already vested a good deal of money into this car in just the time I have worked with this bank.... They gave no such time.... whatsoever.... very poor customer service.... could have received the same from a payday loan.... And, went straight to we will repossess your car... Not a good bank to do business with.... Please do yourself a favor and shop around....

However, the bank's policies are far from rewarding loyalty...the exact opposite...the policies punish loyal customers. CD renewals...they automatically renew a CD much lower than current CD rates. When rates were being offered mid 4's at other financial institutions...Simmons renewed mine at 2.5%. When I asked them to make the change to at least 4% which was lower than other institutions were offering, they only would raise to 3.5%. I was willing to take less just to keep it there. An employee on a customer service call stated that Simmons wants new money...they will not honor the same interest rate for established customers. That policy makes it hard for a customer who is wanting to maintain most of their business with one bank. And, if money moves out of Simmons, due to this policy...their punitive policy really doesn't make sense for keeping customers long term.

It's pretty much your typical bank, nothing special. They've taken over all the Security Savings branches so there are several in the area. Other than that they are based in Arkansas. Their service is friendly, but they don't staff many tellers so if there's more than one other customer it gets pretty backed up and slow.

Great Southern Bank is the bank my dad had at the Lake of the Ozarks. He died in January of 2009,…read moreso I had to deal with them. I'm still dealing with them. I found a small branch in Lee's Summit, they don't tell you about that branch over the phone. Nor did they have it online in what I believe to be a very antiquated website.. The one in Roach, MO is to be avoided as well. When my dad died, I went through all the red tape at the Lake branch, and did everything legal. I had provided the Ozarks branch with a death certificate. They didn't understand why I couldn't stop there after work, and sign the account over. Wow, first of all, I live in Independence, and couldn't go down to the Ozarks when they requested, so that I could sign papers. by the time I got to the Ozarks, the branch was closed. They insisted that I had to go to that branch to sign the papers. Then they suggested it would be easier if my dad went to the office to sign the account over to me. I couldn't get them to send me the papers. Asked if there was a notary there, they don't offer that service. So, I made many phone calls, through out the year, and in the midst of it, found out there was a small branch (mostly unlisted) in Lee's Summit. I thought my troubles were over. This bank wanted my dad to come in and sign his account over to me, even though my name was on the account. I dropped off the death cert. to them. A few months later, the Lee's Summit office slowly began to understand, that my dad wasn't able to go and sign the paper. Ofcourse, I had to practically draw them a Mapquest, as to the fact that I didn't live at the Lake of the Ozarks, that I live in Independence, MO. They were trying to say I lived at the Lake of the Ozarks, with my dad, and we could go to the branch together, and that is the best way to put the account in my name. After I ripped all of my hair out, a few weeks ago, I was able to discontinue the friggin' account. Those people are dumb, and one star is quite generous. I've ran into lot's of dumb businesses down in southern MO, and I'm going to let each one have it. I would never ever do any banking business with this bank whatsoever. And Lee's Summit should know better, than to be so dumb. Avoid them at all costs.

If you open a checkings account, ask about the It Makes Cents (IMC). I was signed up for it for a year, and Tyler just helped me reactivate it. They round up the amount you spend to the closest dollar, places it in your savings, and you get 5% interest on the amount every month. It doesn't seem like a lot, but why not make some money while saving?
