These are just a few of the majestic and breathtaking birds that I saw when visiting the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island near Mobile, Alabama. If you are a birdwatcher, or if you just love nature and walking along wooden footpaths through groves of trees and lagoons covered with lily pads, you'll enjoy spending some time here. I walked for an hour with my binoculars, listening and looking for birds. I saw birds that I knew, and birds that I've never seen before. I stood and gazed at the lagoon and lily pads, enjoying the quietude of nature and water. I walked through the shade of trees, listening the the hum of silence broken only by birdsong. Birding is a peaceful hobby. It's about listening, looking, and patience. Being at the Audubon Bird Sanctuary gave me the sense of peace and calm that only nature can provide.

I had a 5 year old, an 8 year old and a 17 year old with me. We went out 25-30 miles from shore and everytime we put our lines in the water we got a bite. The kids were having a blast. I was worried about being 6 hours on the water but it was so much fun! it was easy to book a boat and the captain and Austin made it memorable. worth every penny!! The boat was clean and had all the supplies, the Captain showed us what to do and Austin was there to help with anything. all I had to do was pack some snacks and water and we were on a roll. I would recommend this company any day. I would trust them with my family anytime. They even cleaned our fish and told me how to cook it. thank you for the wonderful time, the kids won't forget it.

With a roof overhead and railings along the side, everyone has an unobstructed view (other than sometimes people on the other side). And we could move around if we wanted. The bench seats were comfortable, and the ride was very smooth and stable. The tour experience was highlighted by the guide's running commentary, complete with funny jokes and good natured humor. We saw a good number of dolphins and learned some interesting facts about them. We highly recommend this dolphin cruise and will definitely choose them again the next time we want to do this fun activity.

The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is an annual project of the Mobile Jaycees. The rodeo takes…read moreplace the third full weekend in July and is one of the can't miss events of the year! Even if you're not big into fishing, it's enjoyable to go check out. It begins actually the weekend before, with the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament.  That first weekend, 750 anglers come to Dauphin Island trying to catch that winning fish. For the five dollar ticket cost, any angler under 14 years old that weighs a fish receives an ice cream cup, hot dog, and mini soda.  The first, second, and third place finishers all received new fishing poles, tackle boxes, and a small lunch box sized cooler.  The kids seemed to have a great time and its a great way to kick off the weekend.   The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo kicked off Thursday evening with the liars contest.  That contest involves getting up in front of a local celebrity panel of judges and telling the best fishing story you have!  The most believable one wins!  After the contest the Wes Loper band capped off the night rocking the night away!  The rodeo begins Friday morning at 5am, that is the ticket purchase deadline and the time of the annual canon blast to start the rodeo.  From that point on until 5pm Sunday afternoon, the site is alive with people weighing fish, visiting one of the onsite sponsors, or listening to live music!  This year it ranged from local favorite Eric Erdman to local superstars the Mulligan Brothers and Prime Country.  During the rodeo there are always great looking fish coming to the docks or in the gate from other side, so don't miss the fish box!  They have live weigh-in tank that allows some fish in certain categories to swim freely in a tank all weekend and then be released back into the wild.  The really big fish they hoist on a crane and display over the site!   There is also a conservation arm to the ADSFR. Scientists from the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and the University of South Alabama study the fish that are weighed and check toxicity levels, growth rates, estimate populations and tag the live weigh in fish to begin monitoring the population. If you have never been or go every single year, its a great event put on by a dedicated group of hardworking volunteers!  The Mobile Jaycees, by the way, make no profit on the event. The t-shirt and ticket sales are funneled into a kids shopping tour that provides gifts to local families in need around the holidays.
