I wouldn't pay attention to other reviews, I almost didn't book our weekend here due to bad reviews! But let me tell you it's a beautiful campground! The people are nice, the sites are by the lake, the beach is amazing! This is a beautiful little campground 20 minutes from home. Will definitely be coming back, heck we may do a seasonal. Yes there are guns that you hear at the range, but so what? So if you are on the fence about this campground don't be, it's really the perfect little get away! read more

The staff was friendly and accommodating. I went during the week and camped in the primitive tent sites. It was quiet and empty. There is a trailer park vibe for sure. I'm sure it can get roudy on the weekends. Grounds we're clean, bathrooms were great and the beach was a life saver. And well cleared of debris and gunk. read more

Overall this is a great camp ground. We stayed in sight 41 with a 21' ice castle and it fit perfect in the corner. It was early in the season so not very busy which was nice due to open sites for guests to park in. With the camp ground more full it would have been harder to have them park close to our site. Beach looked to be in good condition and bathrooms were as expected. Not extremely nice but also not destroyed. Overall for a place close to the cities and for a great price would for sure go back. read more

I searched high and low for reviews of this place before I went, and couldn't find any anywhere. I decided to take a chance, and the "Meh. I've experienced better" 2-star rating seems appropriate here. Pardon the long review, but since it's the only one so far I felt I had to cover everything. First the good: the staff was certainly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We stayed in the water/electric hookup area, which was a little less crowded than a lot of the full hookup areas. Quiet hours were mostly respected, so we had nice peaceful nights for sleeping. Our site, #38, is the site to grab if you want to camp in the water/electric (no sewer hookup) area but still have a bit of space to yourself. Be aware though, this is not the site for something longer than 22 feet or so. The nearest site is still a decent distance away (which was helpful when it filled up with visitors, more on that later) and it's at the top of a hill overlooking a good part of the campground. If you're doing full hookups or a longer camper, the sites numbered around 33 - 37 looked to be away from the seasonal campers yet still nice and grassy, and if you can get one where you're not sandwiched between 2 neighbors that's a plus. Now the not so good: having grown up on a lake, I KNOW how much that affects the mosquito population. You take the good with the bad here in MN, but the close proximity to the lake here means you get LOADS of mosquitoes, and it's clear everyone is on their own in terms of repellant, vs. any spraying by the campground to attempt to control the population. Eh - that's not really the fault of the campground, many would say, so I'll move on. We had no idea this campground was in such close proximity to a gun range. Shotguns, rifles, handguns (automatic and semi), you name it. From morning until evening - gunshots. To be honest, you sort of get used to it after a while, and thankfully my dog isn't gun shy, or we would have had to pack up and leave. If you're concerned about this, I'd call first to ask about the hours/schedule of the nearby gun range. The bathrooms, although close to our site, are not something you'd use unless you have to. They're not well-maintained - there was no soap to be found, and only shower curtains separate the toilets from one another, at least in the women's room. The clientele...the clientele was just...odd. There was entirely too much driving back and forth, in and out, by guests of the people camping. All weekend. This was not the place to be to feel like you've escaped from the hustle and bustle. The seasonal and full hook up sites (51-94) had a lot of "interesting" people. Let's just leave it at that. There is a swimming beach, but it's rather small so don't expect much more than a place for the kiddos to be entertained for a bit. One more thing, since we didn't have a sewer hookup we used the dump station before we left. It's literally like 15 feet from the office, so it's more difficult to access than any other I've been at, and standing there dumping while others are checking in makes us all feel awkward. So overall, you can see there was nothing awful - just no compelling reason to return. I'm a tough but honest campground reviewer. :) read more

I have camped here twice now and I like it. I tent camp in the primitive sites so I dont expect much. The out houses have been clean both times (the most important thing when you have little girls) and its been quiet both times. We stayed in site 41 both times and was completely peaceful. The swimming area for the kids is nice and clean, the sand is nice and they fact they rent row boats for super cheap just adds something else to do while you are there. This place definitely could use some TLC though. The showers and bathrooms they advertise are falling apart, so if you need a bathroom and shower this place isnt for you. The facilities at state parks are kept up much better but are also funded with tax dollars. We will be going back here again for sure. read more

We tented out at site #9, beautiful open view of the lake! Went on a Tuesday/Wednesday so very quiet and peaceful! The porta-potty was close, about 50 ft, but not cleaned regularly so it stunk pretty bad. The grounds keeper was sweet and accommodating. Wood is available for .50 a piece, I suggest renting a grate for cooking over the fire ($5deposit returned upon checkout. Warning: $26 a night to tent and $30 a night for full electrical camper hook-up, a little steep for tenting comparatively. As for the other reviews that rated poorly I find them to be false ratings. We were not expecting a luxurious campsite at all and as for camping it should involve getting a Little dirty. No camping area will be the perfect place if you expect highly of everything. Yes this place has a couple downsides, but I promise you, you'll survive. If looking to camp in a overall beautifully natural place this is your place to be. read more

This was the most unusual camping experience we have ever had and we have camped many, many times. I was curious what other Yelpers thought about the place and had to laugh as I realized we were not the only campers who had similar experiences. We are "primitive campers" so we do not require much to have a great time. It was no big deal that some kids staying tried to spy on us, after dark, until we let them know we knew they were there by directing our flashlight in their direction. What was a big deal was the fact there is a gun club next door so you are treated to gun fire all day long and into the evening. One of our dogs is not good with fireworks, thunder or gun fire so not a super fun deal. We could even live with that and maybe come back another time without the dogs but we would never go back to that place for ONE main reason and that is the SUPER CREEPY SEASONAL CAMPERS! What rock did they crawl out from under? The loud obnoxious drunkenness and cursing at each other. The meth mouths screaming at you when you drove by to enter or exit the campground. In the future we will find another campsite run the right way and not controlled by a bunch of creepy crawlers. read more

The good: The rates are affordable. A boat rental (with oars and anchor) cost $4 for the first hour then $2 per hour afterwards. The fish were biting and I was able to catch perch, bluegills, and largemouth bass. The area is rural but the suburbs are just a few minutes drive. Our site had newer electric connections and sewer. The bad: The main office is just a shack with a fridge and desk. There is ice for sale and some frozen treats. That's about it. The fish were biting not just the worms on my hook but my spouse and my children in the lake swimming area. The playground nearest our site wasn't ancient but a nearby tree had littered it with blue colored berries which stained my kid's pants. There are no scheduled activities other than karaoke; i will speak about that later. Our seasonal site neighbors had window air conditioners in their campers, a skidsteer, a mudding jeep outside, and proceeded to use a chainsaw to cut wood. The ugly: I regained new appreciation for my camper's bathroom. I ventured into one of the restrooms when we were away from our camper and my young child needed to go. It was clear that aside from a fresh coat of paint this outhouse was in dire need of remodeling as it all could fall apart at any moment. I hurried my son to wash his hands and get out of there as soon as possible. I can't even imagine using the shower there even with shower shoes on. If it was my only choice I would have forgone showering all together. My husband went to the other bathroom and said it was even worse, if that's even possible. Many of the people in our group started getting bug bites on our legs and feet. I believe it was chiggers. The gnats and mosquitos were also horrible. Bring bug spray and hydrocortizone cream!!! There was karaoke on sunday evening at the beach. It consisted of a couple of djs and a couple flashing lights and a lot of children and campers wailing away at the microphone. The entertainment came from listening to the intoxicated people stumbling over their words. After that novelty wore off, I went back to my camper to go to bed and try to drown out the sounds that lasted past 11pm. To sum it up, if it wasn't for a friend of a friend who wanted to go here, I would have been running in the opposite direction from here. It's not a good place for people with children. We won't be returning. We did have a decent little site to set our tent. We had a nice campfire, and grilled dinner. We boated in the lake, which was a decent small lake and the beach was okay too. During the day there was gun shots all day from the nearby fire range, which was annoying but stopped around 6pm. As dusk came, we were entertained by the new campers who showed up and apparently thought it was okay to use their axe to cut down huge branches off a tree. Not sure what they were thinking, but they left a huge mess of broken branches, and they hauled huge branches to their site. Quiet hours were not enforced at all. There was "Karoke night at the beach" from 8-11pm, but it went until11:30, and the singing was heard over the entire campground. Doesn't make sense to have quite hours starting at 10, only to have the loud bad singing well past that time. The campground was so loud, from barking dogs to the lousy singing at karoke, to drunk people yelling, well past midnight. We also were treated to hearing a domestic fight with screaming, "SHUT UP!", then "NO, YOU SHUT UP!". Classy. Another reviewer mentioned the other campers as being "interesting". I would totally agree... not sure where these people all came out of the woodwork, but they aren't the type of people I typically see on a daily basis. The guy who checked in the office at 1pm in front of me reeked of alcohol. Then he hopped back in the drivers' seat with his wife, two kids, and dog and drove to his site. A real quality individual. The campground itself was needing of improvements. The tables were warped, the fire pits needed grates on top. There are a lot of campground around. I would recommend staying away from this place. read more

Yikes. This campground was just strange. The two staff members at the front desk were very nice. I did have to ask for a map and ask where our site was. No other amenities were shown to us. Oh well. After finding the site on the map ourselves, we pulled up to a sprinkler in our site. This sprinkler must have been there for awhile as the dead grass was turning to mud (and the Mike's Hard Lemonade on top of our facet from whoever turned on the sprinkler was very warm). Our site was small, sloped, and close to others. We were not able to spend any time at the site as our little crawler would have rolled down hill while eating cigarette butts. The playgrounds are a joke. For one, a sprinkler ran for the entire 48 hours that we were there directly on one of the playgrounds. Seriously. It never moved. You had to drive and walk through the spray to go anywhere. The lake forming underneath the swings is not conducive to children playing if you ever want to allow them back into your tent or camper. The beach playground was dry but sad. There is no belt in the infant swing so that one was out for us too. Aside from the pleasant staff, the other campers at this campground were unlike others I had met before. The ones at the sites near us gave us dirty looks. Others came outside to stare at us while we dumped our tanks. The children at the beach were friendly. The parents yelling across the beach/campground to "stop talking" to us and to leave us alone kind of put a damper on that friendliness too. Please don't go here. read more

Not to bad if your looking for a place close to the city's with a lake for fishing or swimming. Our issue was that our site had no fire pit and no picnic table. It was just a tiny slab of grass. We were in the primitive area. The sights are right on top of each other. We got there relatively late and didn't think anyone else would be coming for the night so we started a campfire in the site near ours. It as about 3-4 sites over but only about 100 feet from us. Next thing you know people who rented that spot pulled up. We already put all our wood in the pit and starts cooking food. Kinda awkward. They were cool and shared the pit with us as we all agreed that it was stupid that each site didn't have its own firepit. I've never been to a campsite that doesn't put a fire pit in each site. Also a picnic table in each site would be nice. At 28$ per night, I would expect both in my site. If they did those small things it would greatly change my rating. read more

I agree with the others...the seasonal sites were nothing but loud drunk and running around kids with no supervision...the music , horrible and loud played till 330am....will never go back....it was strange and well lets say not somewhere to bring your kids to. read more

We camped in the sites on the top of the hill with water & electric. Our site was tiny and the kids had nowhere to play while still being in eyesight. The bathroom was worse than anticipated (yes, even for camping). 2 stalls in the women's bathroom that were separated by a curtain. The only problem was that you had to walk THROUGH one stall to get to the other. We walked the whole campground and it just was dumpy and off feeling. We felt safe enough to stay for the weekend, but the kids never left our sight for one second. We won't be back and wouldn't recommend it for a family. read more
