We were very excited to get fish and chips in London. Went to Borough Market and saw that this place is "award winning fish and chips." We did take away. It was pretty, but the fish was mealy, coating was rubbery. The fries were hot and fresh but no salt. We threw more than half in the trash. Awful.
Sorry, this review is from my visit in 2015 and was an unpublished draft. Time out said a must try for fish and chips. I agree. the fish and chips here were quite tasty. Loved that you can decide which type of fish to have. mushy peas were delicious as well.
Pro tip for Fish! is to go inside and be seated vs. getting your fish from the takeaway line and sitting on the curb to eat it. They take reservations on one of the services (the Fork?), so you can do it while you browse the rest of the market. It's a bit more expensive, but you get a larger portion... and there are like 5 fish options. My partner had the cod and I had the fresh sea bream... both were excellent and accompanied by a stellar mushy peas serving. Batter was crispy, just the right saltiness and we started with some olives which were perfect. Friendly service and beats eating in the street.
While exploring the borough market, saw a line for London's famous fish & chips. Well well well, let me try this now It was a 'to-go' line (not the actual restaurant) and the line was moving fast. Seems they were only taking orders of fish & chips. I ordered one (Plaice fish) and unfortunately, I got burned fish. And that was too full of oil - 2/5 Doesn't matter if they won some 'Fish-Chip Award' if you don't maintain consistency. And to-go customers- they might come back so treat them nicely, please. if I am asking where are folks/sauces are - point them out nicely. Just handing out the food doesn't mean your job is finished.
Stopped here on my foodie tour and it was AMAZING! Had the fish and chips and wow...best I've ever had! The fish was perfectly flaky and flavorful, and the chips (fries) were crispy, golden, and just perfect. Totally lived up to the hype!
Stopped in for a snack before dinner. I got the salmon croquette and fish soup. Both were not good. The salmon croquette had too much of a fishy taste and I couldn't finish it. The fish soup was so bland. It had next to no flavor. I couldn't even taste fish. It was also more like a reddish purée. I couldn't even tell what the base was. I sent the soup back and didn't order anything else. I was really bummed out because the place had great reviews. Should have just tried the fish and chips. The one nice thing was the patio. Great ambience there!
Fish and Chips shop located just outside of Borough Market in London. You can order from their walk up take away counter or you can dine inside the actual restaurant. We had to go with the classic fish and chips with cod. The chips were good but not as crispy as I would typically expect. The fish was cooked well. However, it lacked a bit flavor and seasoning since it was a tempura batter versus the traditional beer batter version. The mushy peas were good and I actually really liked the tartar sauce (which I am usually not a big fan of). With some extra malt vinegar, a big squeeze of lemon, and some salt the dish really came together. Our server was great and overall I really enjoyed the meal.
Advertised as the best fish and chips place in London...I thought it was meh. No flavor on the battered fish but the chips were good. I think that's just because I'm a sucker for steak fries. The lobster bisque...where was the lobster? Where was the lobster flavor? I'm assuming it's still in the pot because it wasn't in the bowl of soup. Service was mediocre. Could've been better based on the fact that no patrons were there except for maybe 1 table. The restaurant itself wasn't bad. We sat outside spacious. I do however wish they had heaters outside for colder days, but other than that I suggest sitting outside. It has a nice comfortable feel.
We decided to have lunch at the Borough Market and found this gem of a spot to have fish and chips in London. Our service was good and bathroom passed the clean vibe check. Delicious fish and chips in London - thank you.
We ordered to go. And they had the daily special - Halibut. The fish was delicious - wish they provided a bigger piece, the batter was light. Service was quick - you order and they hand you your fish and fries order quickly.
FANTASTIC fish and chips! We chose to dine inside as opposed to take out, which I was happy with my decision for. The inside is beautiful and well decorated with plenty of natural lighting. Our waiter was super friendly the entire time too and did a great job at explaining the menu and informing me of allergens. I got the haddock and chips, and got the salsa verde and hollandaise sauces since the tartar has nuts. The portion was MASSIVE but the food was so good. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, well fried, and moist on the inside. I loved the thickness of the chips and there was a plentiful amount of those too. Both sauces were also delicious. For dessert, we got the sticky toffee pudding and they let us sub the ice cream flavor to the black coconut. This ice cream was fantastic - so flavorful and unique! I also loved the sticky toffee pudding which was warm and soft and so so good. Overall, fantastic spot for some of the British food classics!
Had this fish & chips place in the borough market. It was a decent meal. We got the wild halibut fish and chips. The fish was decently fried and flaky but it was kind of missing something, like maybe meatiness. The oysters were very good and fresh. Service was good and while they were busy, they were able to get us a table within a reasonable amount of time. But a reservation is highly recommended.

Came here for Easter. We ordered: FISH AND CHIPS (cod)- this was good. Came with smashed peas.. first time trying.. wasn't that. The chips that it came with was nice and crispy. GRILLED COD with herb butter- the seasonal vegetables was sliced cabbage. This was ok MUSSELS with SPICY TOMATO SAUCE- this was nice and tender. So good with the glass Prosecco BREAD& BUTTER- this was ok.. nothing to write home about Over all.. my fave were the mussels. My son really like the big piece of fried cod. read more
For the true experience of English fish and chips this is a good place to go. An outdoor stand next to the restaurant. We were there on a cold rainy winter day there were a few places to sit but they were full so we sat on benches over looking a church. The sun peaked out and it was beautiful. The cod was perfectly cooked crunchy on the outside soft on the inside. The chips were cooked just right. read more
Service was mediocre, while ambiance in London is expected to be stellar and modern. Ordered two items here, crab bread and cod fish n chips. The food tasted on par to Gordon Ramsay's fish n chips in the US. I think the best part of both dishes is the mayonnaise. Each seasoned to fit their designated dish, and sooooooo fluffy and light. Otherwise, I didn't feel like I needed to come back after this visit. read more
My son is picky as all get out when it comes to food. But I can usually talk him into something fried. While strolling through Borough Market for the first time today, we talked him into trying fish and chips from here. He absolutely loved them and devoured as much of it as he could. Any place that can get my son to expand his horizons is wonderful by me. Now he left some of it for me to try. And I must say this was some incredible fish and chips they have going here. Recommended by our tour guide for fish & chips. if you're not from London or anywhere in Europe this place is definitely a safe option for you! I will say the fish & chips plate (depending on what fish you get) can be shared between two people. We had the haddock & it was pretty tasty. Definitely a nice area to dine at. Great fish and chips but a little pricey. You'll pay nearly 15 quid for a fried cod fillet with chips. However, while pricey, the fish is very very good. You can order tartar sauce but it really doesn't need it. It's juicy enough in it's own inside. Bring a friend and try two different fishes for the best experience. The chips are the weak part. They're inconsistently fried, and the tiny ones are just, well, bad. Ketchup is provided free on the tables. There will be a line here thanks to their popularity. Credit cards are accepted. read more
Good fish! This place is in Borough Market which is this outdoor food hall market that is always really packed on the weekends. Fish! is one of the few places that's still open when the rest of the market is closed which is actually nice so if you want to try this place without the crowds I suggest you come in the hours after the market is closed. In terms of the food I'd say it was on the pricey side though so I wouldn't say it's worth it. Service was good I didn't wait too long for my order. I don't think I'd come back here again though, I've had better fish and chips in California. read more

There was a long line for this place so I assumed that the fish & chips here must be really good. I was so excited to try it. The line moved at a good pace. The size of the fish was great, it was a pretty big piece which I had shared it with 2 other people. We all got other items to try. Unfortunately, we all thought it was ok, nothing spectacular. It wasn't bad, but I was expecting more. We actually didn't even finish it. read more
Sometimes the best foods are the ones you stumble to. The fish and chips were huge. It also came with this mashed peas, tartare sauce and lemon. Overall it has big taste and I loved it. Because it was on the pricey end, we split 1 order, and it was plenty for a hungry party of two. Their hot chocolate was fantastic and beer was on point. YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM!!! We chose the Fish!kitchen option which is a booth attached to the restaurant. We LOVED the fish & chips here- specially the cod!!! So flavorful and crispy both the fish and chips!! A very quick turn around and highly efficient team getting the food out as quickly as you order it (like 2 min difference). The stand was very busy and the market was also busy but they have seating around the side to the left of the booth when you get your foot- it is a little hidden away!! read more
Great service, food and patio. Our first trip to England required we try the fish and chips. (I think there's a law). Not being a big fish eater I was reluctant but committed. I'm now a convert. There is plenty to have here other than fish and chips but the fish and chips are amazing. I had the traditional cod. It was light, flaky and delicious. We also tried the sticky toffee pudding. I can see why it's so popular now. Much better than the version I had tried in the states. The patio was perfect. A very nice airy place where you can people watch. The server was fantastic. He was helpful and pleasant. This is a great place if you're in the borough market and want to sit and eat. read more
Would not recommend. Service was off. Our water took a long time to come and two separate servers came to take our order. Our server forgot our orders the first time and we had to repeat ourselves which confused us. Food was a miss too. Ordered the cod fish and chips since that seems to be what is most popular. The fish had fine texture but had little to no taste - all I could taste was the beer in the frying batter. The fries were also not salted at all but were crispy. The aioli / dipping sauce was good though. Super pricey for what it is and I wouldn't recommend coming. There must be better options in borough market. read more

Of course you need fish and chips while in London. The "best of" boasting of this place will draw you in. Don't worry, it's worth it. The atmosphere is cute with your choice of inside or outside seating. Staff were attentive and friendly. Depending on where you sit, you can watch the intensity of the kitchen. The menu has plenty of options, the star of the show is fish and chips. You can get various types of fish, from classic cod, haddock, or our choice halibut. The chips (fries) are hefty and crisp. The sauces are good but you'll need to ask for extra. It's a good size portion, so we split it between two. The fish soup's flavor was intense and delicious. And finally we had to try the sticky toffee pudding. Brace yourself because your eyes will roll back when you take your first bite. The best part of the "muffin" is the sauce soaked caramel bottom. You've been warned. Also what is nice is that it stays open after all the food stand close. read more

We found respite here in an insanely crowded borough market. We walked up without a reservation and managed to get seated as a party of 6. We loved being able to escape the crowed market for bit and have a delicious lunch. Our server was excellent as well!! read more

On my recent visit to London, Fish and Chips were definitely one of the top foods I was looking forward to trying while across the pond. My first stop was fish!kitchen, conveniently situated at the edge of Borough Market, a must visit for all kinds of diverse cuisines in one location. By default, I went with the Cod, which was perfectly cooked and went well with both the ketchup and the vinegar located nearby. Also as expected, the chips were deliciously hot and crisp on a brisk winter day. I'll definitely be back on my next visit to London! read more

We didn't want to wait in line for the to-go option but wanted to try fish n chips while we were in London. This place is overpriced for what you get, unfortunately. The fish was good, but the value for the food you get isn't great. I wish I waited in the line for the to-go option instead. read more

Perfect crispness! Light, not oily, but filling and quite a lot of fish/chips! I got the cod and thought it was delicious. Per the seating situation, after I put a little vinegar/ketchup in the box (on the side of fish!), I walked over to the larger seating area for the whole market. It was raining so that was a great spot as it was covered and had long tables/benches. It was very normal to just ask if people were ok if you sat there (I think we had three groups sitting at one table and each had their privacy). read more

I don't get some of the reviews I've read here. Maybe I was hungry after a long flight but the fish and chips here were outstanding. Sea bass was battered well, extremely crunchy and crispy. Fish was fresh and moist. The chips were super crispy and fluffy and moist inside. The texture of the chips were a first to me. Almost like a thick mashed potato center with an extreme crunch outside. The tartar sauce was the most amazing tartar sauce I've had in my life. Seriously... I wanted to spoon what was remaining and eat it straight up. I've been to Golden Union, another great place but Fish wins hands down. read more
I have to say. The English sure know how to make fish & chips! The batter is light but crunchy. It doesn't matter what type of fish (cod, haddock, etc.) that you choose, they are so fresh and cooked to perfection. Their service is fast and friendly. They are also won the National Fish & Fish Award. read more

We came to fish! during a food tour and our guide assured us it was one of his favorite spots in London for fish and chips so we took his word for it. We got haddock fried in a beer batter which was very tasty and the fish just fell off the fork it was so tender. The chips (or fries to us Americans) were also good and tasted fresh, but Londoners don't salt their chips, you have to do that yourself and to us they were good but the fish was really the star. read more
11.11.19 How can you leave London without having fish and chip? Well, I had some pretty bad ones the last time I was here. Crazy huh? We were going to eat at Padella but the line was crazy. So once we are in the waiting list, we went off to explore Boroughs Market. It was just right next to it. My friend looked it up that the fish and chip is good. So we proceeded with no doubt. As soon as we ordered, a line formed. We realized this has been happening a lot during our stay. Lol We're bringing the restaurants luck. Jk! My friend ordered the grill swordfish with chip. I really wanted the craft beer battered sea bass but I didn't mind it since I never tried it grilled. It was relatively longer to make compared to fried of course. So we waited a bit. It was actually pretty good and wasn't very fishy. Swordfish is known to be more firm so I probably still prefer other ones for fish and chip. Our fish was probably one third the size of the fried ones. We just shared one since we were still in line for Padella. But let me tell you, even if you are not in line for another restaurant, I'd recommend to share with a friend because you can try other food at the Borough market! read more

On our first meal in London, we paid a visit to Borough Market and were eager fish and chips at the outdoor stall of Fish! Kitchen. The line was fairly long as we noticed their award-winning banner posted at the top of their stall. The workers were friendly. Their cod fish and chips were hot and delightful with a nice texture to them. One star down for the calamari - we ordered decked out calamari at another stall with paella and liked theirs better. I really enjoyed my meal from fish! The line was long when we went but it moved pretty fast. We got 2 orders of fish and chips and some of the tartar sauce. Really could have split one order as it was huge! Can be tricky to find a spot to sit and eat. We found out after that they have a sit down dining option that we probably would have done but we enjoyed our food nonetheless! read more
Fish! Kitchen inside Borough Market is a must visit stall! We came here visiting from the USA, and were excited to try some award winning fish and chips. The cod or pollock fish is very fresh and comes in big, piping hot, crunchy pieces, and the chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I recommend adding malt vinegar to the chips and squeezing lemon juice on the fish. The line was quite long, as we came on a weekend and the market was packed. Fish! Kitchen also proudly shows their award winning banner in the front for everyone to see. The only thing I didn't like here was their calamari, it was just ok. Stick to their fish and chips, and you'll definitely leave here happy! read more

Was craving for sticky toffee pudding on my night out and this was the only place that was open and had them on their menu. We barely made it here before closing time and the staff was very courteous. We didn't feel rushed considering we arrived 10min before closing time. The place has a nice ambiance. Pudding was top notch delicious and is served with a scoop of ice cream. read more
