[OVERALL] All I can say is that the food was okay. Not a bad place to go for a quick meal though. The waitress told us they had an all-you-can-eat sushi deal for something like 250 NOK, which I guess would be good if you're starving and wanted simple sushi (the choice is limited; they don't have unagi). [FOOD] Salmon Burger: It just tasted decent. The salmon didn't have much flavor. The salad in the burger was nice and fresh though. The fries were pretty dry and not that great. Norwegian Fish and Chips: You get like 6 pieces of different fried fish (salmon, cod, and shrimp were the only ones I could identify). The best part of this restuarant is that it is located in the winter fish market where there are tons of different fish on display and interesting food to try. I tried the whale burger (first time trying whale), the crab sandwich, and lobster bisque. I am not a fan of whale - it looked like a normal burger but had an interesting slightly off putting flavor. Great quality in fish selection. Prices were reasonable. Looks like they are doing some renovating which is great given how neat the place looks from the inside. If you are not familiar with fish then I suggest to sticking to looking at pictures before you order. read more

Disappointed! Bad service and the worst food we had in Norway so far. The fish soup tasted so wired compared with the one we tried at Bryggeloftet. Similar price but worse taste. Sashimi is not fresh. Pasta works like Mac & Cheese taken out from microwave. Never want to go there again! read more

First, you can't find this because it is hidden in the tourist information brownish building. Yes, ITS THE fish market that everyone talks about and has to try and I did try because NORWEGIAN seafood hello!? BUT... Service totally stinks. My husband and I sat ourselves down because we were invisible and there's only TWO waiters outside and when we sat down.. we watched how many ppl needed their attention and how they try their best to avoid customers waiting to get seated. We saw two different people had to get up and walk to the waiters for help and attention, another older couple walked up and leave because they thought the wait is too much and said they will go somewhere else and the waiter was shrug and was like ok. It was actually funny and like w.t.f. Watching the waiters trying to ignore people and pretend they don't see them so they don't have to deal with them. Maybe they hate tourists!? Yes it is very expensive but you're here to try the seafood. YOLO. But it's nothing special at all. Maybe the big shrimp/crayfish and king crab but it taste the same anywhere: butter and garlic. The sushi :( - 1 spicy tuna roll for $17 .. 6 pieces? Not even quality made..except the fish. We also got a quarter pound (250kg) of king crab, stuffed shell crab, and 2 PIECES of large crayfish and a soda.. $110 USD. I asked kindly for our waiter Adrain to heat up our warm crab shell meat because they didn't say anything about it being served ice cold. Like directly from the display. I asked literally 3x even tho he gave me reasons why they don't serve it warm. I'm sure everyone had crab meat served warm with other sides or entrees. Throw it in the oven or microwave. Takes like 10mins! They also charge you more if you want to dine in and it cost less if you take out. So please dont get all excited and believe the hype when you see the market. I have mixed feelings about this place, the location and price are great - at the iconic Bergen fish market, but not all dishes were worth it. We tried the fish soup, a salty chowder with a side of stale bread. The mussels were fresh and served with fries. I think it's one of the more popular dishes because most tables ordered it that night. The standard platter was a love hate affair. The salmon and small shrimp were good, however the crab was not. So expensive that it put a huge damper on our day and Bergen experience. We figured that prices would be cheaper for lunch and plates smaller, so we risked this place as it didn't look too fancy under a tent and right outside the market. My husband did not understand the conversion rate and failed to ask me, so he bought a $44 dollar plate. We got caught in a tourist trap. We also weren't expecting the waitress to repeatedly ask us and basically not run our card until we tipped as the restaurant charges about an extra 8% just to eat food in rather than take-away. Waitresses are also paid better in Norway than in the US, and they do not rely on tips to survive. I am a former US waitress, and really should have done more research. As far as food, the salmon in my salmon burger tasted quite fishy, though I managed to eat most of it. If I did not know what fresh salmon tasted like, it would have been fine. The steak fries were delicious. My husband greatly enjoyed his Monk Fish catch-of-the-day meal. Using the restroom connected to the building is $2. Overall, felt a bit cheated on price and food and had a much better experience in the small towns of Norway than Bergen. read more

We went there on the day of National holiday- Constitutional day. So crowed, but we were able to find a table pretty quickly. We had oysters topped with princess caviar as app- this is Norwegian style, unlike the American style- we eat with horseradish or cocktail sauce. There oyster were simple but so fresh, without the condiments- you can taste the freshness of the sea. My boyfriend has the salmon burger with fries, the fries were crisp and hot, and I took a bit of the salmon burger, really tasty! I had the standard seafood platter, once again, I didn't expect this to be a complete cold dish- as we American would've eat the prawns or the crab claws hot. However, it was tasty and fresh. I was also surprised the prawns were stuffed with different kind of caviars. I highly recommend this place. read more

We had just gotten off the ferry and this place was right beside the landing. We wanted to get into a place that was open before we missed out on dinner altogether (things close early here). It looked like it could be a tourist trap or it could be a high-end fish market with attached restaurants. The food was just ok. The fish soup and lobster bisque were yummy but the mussels in white wine broth was just ok. We ordered two mussels in broth and one was very off but the restaurant questioned our request to return the one that was off. Just absolutely horrible service especially when it was bad seafood which could easily turn into medical-intervention-level food poisoning. The grilled cod was tasty and fresh. read more

For those prices, I would have expected sides and seasoned fish. The service is incredibly slow. It started off well, we got drinks and soup right away. This was a lovely fish market located on Bergen's harbor. You have the opportunity to peruse the fresh catch or even choose your own live crab or lobster. There is outdoor seating that actually is a bit upscale for a fish market. I had amazing mussels, scallops and king crab. Everything tasted as if it was just plucked from the ocean. A great place to stop in for take-out sushi! Had the Sake Maki (salmon, avocado and cucumber roll), and salmon sashimi. Given salmon is a major product of Norway, I figured this was the best option. I am not even the biggest fan of salmon when it comes to sushi, but the fish was amazing here! Would definitely come back if I were ever to re-visit Bergen. read more

I'd say that this place is a decent spot in the fish market for okay food. There isn't anything particularly special about it, and because it's in the fish market, the prices tend to be a little bit higher. My friend and I wound up trying two different types of whale (it was my first time) and we were really excited! We totally forgot that whales are huge mammals and probably have very tough meat (it felt more like a steak than fish). Anyways, the whale itself was okay - I probably wouldn't have it again - and the rest of the food was decent, but overpriced in my opinion. So it's up to you whether or not you want to check this place out, but I'd probably recommend another place in the fish market. read more

I wish I had taken a picture of my meal here. It was excellent! I was in the mood for the salmon burger but the waiter suggested I go with the grilled salmon with salad. So glad I did! So fresh and delicious! My husband had the fish and chips, which he loved and the kids had the fish nuggets. My 7 year old still talks a bout them 2 days later! Good clean food, expertly prepared and can say say the plates are even pretty! We sat inside the open air tented setting area - a bit chilly, even in late June. Attentive service but somewhat slower as they are always busy - testimony to the good food. Pricey, so if that matters, have your cocktail elsewhere. Great location in Bergen near the fish market. The salmon catch of the day was amazing and cooked perfectly. The spicy whale wasn't great, and was a bit rubbery and tasted overcooked (my husband ordered it and I tasted a couple pieces). The service was pretty slow and we witnessed one server being openly rude to some customers. But overall the salmon was so good that I would give 4 stars. read more
