This is an update of our earlier review and covers the years 2018 and 2019. First, Fish On Charter has freshwater trips targetting Kokanee salmon. We had experienced two trips with Les for this species, and it was a fun-filled adventure. Although this was a freshwater trip, I felt I did not have the expertise or hardware to troll for this species. I have caught plenty of trout in Crowley and Convict Lake on the troll, but getting these landlocked salmon requires a downrigger and the ability to troll deep. Les and his wife did a great job putting us on fish. Kokanee salmon are wonderful table fare. This year, we participated in an epic salmon trip at Bodega Bay. Les still operates the Samantha Irene and has Captain Jeff running the boat. We managed to catch our limit of King Salmon, the largest weighing 27 pounds. We also landed some 15 pounders. Again, the trip was an epic experience. As a fisherman,​ ​I have to brag. The first salmon I caught with Les was a 30 pounder! It is good to see Fish On Charters expanding its operation. ​They have a Rockfish, Lingcod trip in the winter. A November trip would be the perfect way for us to end the fishing year. read more

So, we did a charter here over the summer. Was not pleased with the charter. First off, we didn't leave on time. We were there super early and didn't leave until after 7. The captain was NOT FRIENDLY! His deck hand was nice enough, but the whole operations seemed a mess. Any time anyone got a fish the captain would start screaming at everyone. One of the older gentlemen we shared our charter with got pushed around the small boat and was made to trip over the seat/storage thing. I was really concerned he was going to get hurt. Out of 5 of us we brought back 6 fish, and that was a struggle. We motored all over the place, and the captain didn't even realize 1 guy hadn't gotten a fish at all! Then got all mad that he didn't have a fish yet. There was another charter there, I wish I could remember their name. Because everyone looked like they were having so much fun and happy. Unlike our boat, we were all exhausted and definitely did not find it all that enjoyable. I just don't understand the point in screaming at your passengers, who are paying you to take them out. Everytime we got a fish, he'd yell at us. Then if you lost your fish, it was worse. I do not recommend! read more

Just went out with Captain Les Fernandes and his trusty crew mate Tim, last Saturday. Trust me, these guys know how to fish. Sometimes a smaller boat is not for the faint of heart. But if your serious about your sport, this is the way to go. These guys are gunna make sure you catch your limit, and the are very attentive, kind and personal, and believe me this boat can get anywhere! Since we had previous excellent experience with Captain Les Fernandes' of Fish On Charters salmon fishing abilities (he was able to put us on salmon and ling cod in Bodega Bay when other boat captains weren't catching) we decided to charter Captain Les to go fishing for Kokanee salmon at Whiskeytown Reservoir near Redding, California. Captain Les knows this huge lake like it was the back of his hand. He remained calm when there were fish on. He was very good at giving us instructions on how best to bring the fish in. I only lost one fish at the boat. Captain Les helped prevent that from happening again with some helpful tips. Captain Les' expertise and knowledge of the lake and it's fish habits helped everyone on the boat to catch their limit! It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend fishing with Fish On Charters. Not only were we very happy with the results but our friends and family were also very happy when we invited them over for a Kokanee salmon dinner. read more

Does not block out trips/dates that they are not available in advance. Waits for reservations on dates that they knew they won't go fishing. and then cancels on you via email. Didn't respond to messages. Waste of time. Would not recommend this company/captain. read more

Hired Fish On charters in bodega bay and was completely unsatisfied. to start the boat captain worked alone with no deck hand, not a problem if he was good at what he does but he is not. we arrived at 5:45 for 6:00 leave time. we didnt leave out till almost 7:30. fishing was ok. we caught 3 fish, only 1 keeper salmon, or should I say he caught 3 fish. everytime we had a fish on he would freak out, run out of the cabin, grab the pole from our hands and do all the work. We paid to fish not to ride in a boat all day. He also, while reeling in our fish asked one of us to steer his boat. WTF maybe we should have charged him. I have been on multiple fishing boats and this by far the worst. this captain was a wreck, very unfriendly and not welcoming. He even had the nerve to tell us that coming back with 1 fish amonst the 5 of us was a good day and one of his better days. BULL! the boat behind us came back with 2 fish per person for the entire boat. definetely not worth the 750.00 bill for the trip. read more
