My son and I had a great day with Josh and Cody. We caught some amazingly large fish and had a great time doing it. The smaller boat was a nice experience compared to bigger party boats. On Sunday Sept 22 myself and 3 others booked a tuna charter. The previous few days fishing reports were weak for tuna so we opted for a bottom fishing trip. We were on the 28 ft Big Eye boat which has twin 300 horse engines that gets you to fishing grounds fast. It was a great fishing experience with Captain Josh and Cody working very hard to find us fish and make the whole day a great experience. We all caught our bottom fish limit of 10 and then landed 6 ling cod. Cody is constantly making sure we had the right lures, fishing poles and always there to boat our fish. I cannot wait to book another trip for tuna in the future. Captain Josh and Cody run a quality fishing charter and both have a lot of experience in ocean knowledge and customer service. We had an epic day with Josh in Tomales Bay and caught 7 halibut and a leopard shark and all of the live bait we could manage along the way. Josh had been tracking lots of good spots where the fish are and we had a really fun energy on the boat, and he fileted our halibut perfectly for us. We booked a private charter for 4 during May and targeted ling cod, rock fish, and crab. None of us had ever been deep sea fishing, but by the end we could tell that captain John had been doing this for a very long time, and was extremely knowledgeable about the bay. His deckhand JP was also very helpful - always attentive to what we were doing and helped us immediately, never wasting time and had all the rigs setup and ready to go. He had many baits and lures Incase one setup wasn't biting. Our day started at 6:45 where we met Captain John at the docks (he told us directions the night prior and said to call if we couldn't find him, but it was easy to find). He gave us a brief tour of the boat and safety instructions, and then we were off! The ocean was rocky, but the captain tried his best to drift us in a direction that kept the boat steady. Of note the oceans had been very rough that week, our kayak tour had to be postponed from earlier in the week as well! At first the spots we went to not much was biting, even the deck hand JP was having difficulty getting bites, so we kept moving from location to location. It seemed like captain John really knew where the fish were as you could see them appear on the Sonar, just nothing was biting - but he didn't stay in one place too long, so we could maximize our day. Eventually we went to a spot far away where we were able to hook many ling cod! We decided that if small rock fish weren't biting then we'd just go for the big guys! All in all we caught about 20 fish. Unfortunately, we didn't get any crab as it was the end of the season, combined with a really bad year for crab and also evidence that his crab pots had been poached, he even lost a crab pot probably to poachers! The boat was very clean, and lots of spots for everyone to grab a seat. Bathroom was kept clean, and surprisingly we had cell service pretty much throughout the entire ride! Will definitely seek them out again when I'm in bodega bay! Hopefully for salmon fishing next time! read more

My son and I went for a day with Captain Ryan and deckhand Pete on the Take Five and we had a great trip. Ryan was very relaxed, knowledgeable, and friendly. Pete was very energetic, has some great stories, and was very helpful with my nine year old son. They both wanted us to catch fish and we did. Also, the owner was accommodating when we had to reschedule due to fires. One of the best fishing days I've ever had and the kind that will help get my son hooked for life. We trolled for salmon among the whales in the morning and got our limit. We then had a great afternoon catching rockfish and lingcod on lighter gear. Lots of action and great support from Ryan and Pete. Look them up. Pete fileted our fish and gave us simple recipes for how to prepare each. The boat is nice, too. Went out crabbing and ling cod fishing with my family the other day and it was by far one of the most enjoyable fishing trips I've been on. We Showed up at 7am and headed off the dock real quick, which normally it takes pretty long to get going, but these guys were all ready and prepared. Our day started with hitting our limits on Dungeness in the first half hour. The rest of the day was all fishing! Started out with a slow troll for some rockfish, which hit quick. We hammered the rockfish immediately so Capt Josh decided to take us out to a good Ling Cod spot. Over the radio we could hear that the ling cod bite was off so we got a little concerned that it would be a slow day. But after a few of Josh and Pete's favorite spots, we were hooked up! Ended the day with rockfish limits, crab limits, and 5 big Lings on the boat. Could not have been more stoked with this boat, captain, and deckhand. We are 100% coming back for salmon this next season with Josh and Pete. read more

This was an insane day of fishing and crabbing. Off the charts fun. Cptn Josh set us up in the best spots and the cod couldn't get enough of our hooks. Billy the deck hand was patient with us newbies, knowledgeable, and quick with the assist. We hit our limits on everything we were fishing for, including the biggest crabs I have ever seen. The boat was spotless. The gear was in great shape (before we got our hands on it, anyway). When I win the lotto, I'm going to spend it all hiring these guys to take me fishing. This company came highly recommended and I am happy I booked with them. The weather and water conditions were unseasonably good but the charter was amazing. The captain Josh and deck hand JP were stellar. Fishing and crabbing were great but the hospitality, friendliness of everyone and the boat was amazing. Quality equipment, great knowledge, comfort of the boat for smaller groups was the best. This being my first trip with them it has cemented that I will use them as much as time will allows. I highly recommend if you want to have a good time with knowledgeable people for fishing, that this is who you use in the Bodega Bay Area. That being said, you also need to realize that every fishing trip isn't a guarantee to catch but they will do everything possible to make it happen and take care of clients. As good as it gets! Went out with Captain Josh for a second seamless and amazing salmon day this summer. Deck hands Ryan, Billy, you guys rock! Top of the line equipment/boat together with Josh's unrelenting need to put us on the fish gave our group the best shot at tight lines of any boat on the water. First trip we had limits on kings shortly after lunch and home by happy hour. Latest trip was a slow day but Josh and Billy threw everything in the tackle box at the fish, constantly changing depths, baits and even location. Our second time fishing with Captain Eric on his boat Take Five. When I am on the ocean I want to have confidence in the Captain and his boat. We have both in Captain Eric. My husband, a friend and I were out last weekend and had a great time. He obviously knows where the fish are. We barely got our lines in the water and were catching fish-fish i had never seen before: lingcod, assorted rockfish (vermillion, blacks, blues, yellowtail, copper and chinas). We released far more than we caught and still came away with plenty. The boat is clean, well kept and bathroom is spotless. A plus for me is the Captain baits the hooks and takes the fish off the line. I love to fish but don't care to touch either of those. Another plus was all of the sea life we saw: dolphins, sharks(!), mola mola, sea lions, seals. I enjoy that Eric takes the time to point out and name all of these creatures and enjoys the whole experience of being on the ocean. Eric is personable, helpfull and most important enjoys having you on the boat-its not just a job for him. Awesome day-thanks Captain! read more
